That is falling down, knee slapping funny!
3  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re: Why does the media try to discredit Christianity? on: February 28, 2007, 03:55:48 AM
They persecuted Jesus, we should expect nothing less!

John 15:20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
4  Entertainment / Politics and Political Issues / Re: More Americans killed by illegal aliens than Iraq war, study says on: February 28, 2007, 03:50:45 AM
This should be on the front page of every newspaper in the country.  Thanks for posting.

I agree, but it won't happen because IMHO the news media is owned and operated by liberals, and this would shatter the myth they are trying to create about Iraq.

Mythbusters is one of my favorites too.

Quote
"If church leaders are really interested in saving people, they would find much less offensive ways to do it," said Ahmed Bedier, director of the Tampa chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. "Religious leaders are adding fuel to the fire. It's a shame."

Yes and islamic leaders are saying kill the pope and it's ok?
8  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re: Muslim fury grows at pope's speech on: September 16, 2006, 09:14:06 PM
With this and with all the riots the muslims are doing because of the Popes statements it looks to me like the muslims are just showing that the Popes statements are in fact true.

Good point! If islam was really a religion of peace they would have responded peacefully.
9  Fellowship / For Men Only / Re: You might be in the wrong church if.... on: September 16, 2006, 02:58:20 AM
Probably has to do with this verse from 1 Timothy
1Ti 2:12  But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
10  Fellowship / For Men Only / Re: Just for Guys! Sorry no women. on: September 16, 2006, 02:53:55 AM
Well I had to think about posting in here what with all the pies flying around. What's with that? I've seen pie throwing on other sites too.

Anyway, since I'm not on here very often I might as well try to get the thread back on track.

Black Flies At Higgins Lake
by Smokey the dog

4 weekends ago I went camping with some men from our church. On a cloudy Saturday afternoon we drove over to Higgins lake state park near Roscommon Michigan. I chose to sit and watch as several from our group went swimming. In hindsight that may have been the better choice. In any case, I had several black flies attack my ankles while I sat there talking with some others from our group. I couldn’t believe it, but they bit me right through my socks! Finally I liberally sprayed my socks with bug spray, and that was the end of it, or so I thought. Almost a week later my ankles began to itch. I tried several things to get it to stop, and the topical ointments, including one with Benadryl, were only partly effective. Then out of desperation I took an antihistamine tablet, and that actually seemed to help. Now I have these red scabby patches on my ankles that itch, but not nearly so bad as before.

I was thinking on this, and it entered my mind that the black flies are like sin. They bite through our socks and later trouble develops. Our socks are like out fleshly defenses, ineffective. The bug spray is like our after the fact efforts to correct the problem with prayer, or Bible reading. The only real cure was an internal one. In the case of sin, being filled with the Holy Spirit is the cure, and the preventative, and Bible study and prayer should be done before going out to the spiritual beach. Maybe next time I go to the beach in August in Michigan I will remember to put the bug spray before, and not after.

13  Entertainment / Books / Re: Sci-Fi/Fantatsy readers? on: August 01, 2006, 05:07:40 AM
I grew up on sci-fi. I read all the classics by Heinlien, Andre Norton, Asimov. After I became a Christian I have tried to find some Christian sci-fi authors. There are some out there!
Chris Walley has a series called "the Lamb among the stars" I've read the first two books, The Shadow at Evening, and  The Power of the Night and they were great! He's got two more due out in October.
I found  Arena By: Karen Hancock to be a good read too.
