1546  Theology / Debate / Re: Organ and Blood Donation on: August 09, 2006, 03:00:13 PM
Anyone can have my organs...as long as they are handed a Bible to read when they wake up from the recovery room.  With a book mark that is the donor's testimony.

But good analogy.

Sadly I agree and disagree.  I would hate for it to become widespread publication.  But also as a learning tool for all that it is plain obvious that Hitler was NOT a Christian.

There is such a issue with many non-believers using professed Christians and Christian acts such as Crusades, Inquisition, etc as their model for how Christians act.  Never realizing that these actions are not the acts of Christianity but of people, some saved and misguided and others no where near it.  Such as Hitler, even a swaying Christian would not consider such attrocities as re-writting the Bible.

But for the most part destroy it and be done with it.  Document what it changed and what it's intent was so that all may know.  But the words are from Satan and should be destroyed.

Sincerely
Brother Jerry

There was a reason Jesus threw the money changes and vendors out of the temple for 3 years running....because it was WRONG!!!!!!

1550  Welcome / About You! / Re: Christian Email Mentors? on: August 09, 2006, 12:25:00 PM
NMC,

Let me say first and foremost I will be praying for you.

Satan fights a dirty fight and once he has a Christian in his grip he fights relentlessly to keep hold.  He knows that he has turned a person from a good witness into one who is causing the "name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles" (Rom 2:24)

There has been some good advice here already.  And I am sure that you will feel the temptation to not come to this forum.  Satan will plant thoughts into your head about how we do not know anything and how you have your problem under control.  And you may even "appear" to be doing better.  But if you sit back and take a deep look at it you will find that you are actually consciously forcing yourself to "appear" better.  This is the hold that Satan has.

One of the first things you need to do is to pray.  Pray to God for strength and for wisdom.  The Bible tells us that if we seek wisdom we shall get it.  If we seek God, He will come.  Then you need to be honest with your spouse and let her know that you are fighting a spiritual battle right now and that you need her prayers as well.  Do not seek her consent, ask her to point out to you when you may not be doing the will of God.  If she is more in tune that you are at the moment let her also be your guide.  And join with her in prayer.  Let her pray with you and as one you both come to God as He intended.

Get your Bible and open it up to Ephesians Chapter 6.  Take a look down at verses 11-18.  I am sure you have heard of the Armor of God.  But look at what it says.  With the armor of God we are able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  We are told that we are night fighting a battle of physical conflict but a spiritual battle, one that takes place inside us and around us.  The fight you have also creates a fight within your loved ones.  It is no longer your battle but theirs as well.  Notice that the we are to take up the armor but there are only a few things that Paul says we have to actually "take up".
v14: Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness
- A saved person already has on the covering of truth.  You have the truth in you, the truth of Jesus Christ as the savior and your Lord.
v15: And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace
- You as a Christian are already prepared to walk the walk of Jesus.  Notice it specifically states that it is in preparation and not doing.
v16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked
- This is the first part of the armor that you do not already have.  This is the part of  armor which you must pick up.  Our faith is the key point to protecting us from satan.  It is by our faith that we do all things in supplication to the Lord.
v17 And take the helmet of Salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God
- Let us not that salvation is in the form of a helmet and not the shield.  If our salvation was the shield then we would hide behind it.  Basically allowing our sins to continue while knowing we have the shield of salvation to rest upon.  This is where you are currently at.  If you are a saved person then you are using the helmet of salvation as a shield.  You continue to sin, knowing it is not the will of God, but your own will.  Salvation is to be a helmet because we see that we are to keep every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.  We have our thoughts in our head and Christ is our salvation thus our thoughts are confined within the helmet of salvation.  If we keep our thoughts captive then they shall never shine through the helmet.
And finally the sword of the Spirit.  Which is the Bible.  The best way to fight Satan is through the truth you already know, by using your faith to study the Word of God, and to keep every thought captive to Christ.  You will shield yourself from the fiery darts and get yourself to wearing out the shoes on your feet in spreading the gospel of peace.

There is nothing easy in what you have to do my friend.  It is a hard road and can be a long road.  But it sounds like you have yourself on the first few steps.  Honesty with the family is vital.  God joined you and your wife and it is to be you and her that present yourselves as one body to Christ.  You should be in prayer and study in the Bible and seeking God's help.  I recommend James as a great book teach of controlling our actions.  Remember that what affects you also affects your family.  And you may be willing to stand up and fight anyone who comes along and threatens your family.  Now just realize that you yourself are threatening your family and you can see the fight you have coming.

Although some people may not agree I would recommend checking into some reading by Niel Anderson.  When I had problems with gambling and deception it was his insight that helped me recognize many things about myself as well as my relationship with God and my family.  There were two series that I read of his, Victory Over the Darkness and Bondage Breakers, that were very inspiring to me.

And NMC if you would ever like anyone to talk to or to email with please feel free to send me a note.  I will continue to pray for you and your family.

Sincerely
Brother Jerry

1551  Theology / Apologetics / Re: Cults, Different groups on: August 07, 2006, 12:17:17 PM
Wonderful work.  I probably would have read it all, however I just finished reading a book that pretty much covered all that you had Wink

For those that ask there are several books at your local book stores or Christian book stores.  One I just finished up was titled "Another Gospel" and I do not recall the author however.  But it was a good read and very eye opening.

I really would like to sit down and write/read one that not only explained their different doctrine but also showed Biblical verses to refute their doctrine as well.  This especially with the cults professing to be Christian.

One I ran across recently for example with the Christian Scientists and dealing with the sick and laying of hands.  The Bible shows us that the miracle healings of Christ's time and near that was something that was not a permanent gift upon the apostles.  We know that the Apostles and Paul were able to heal people.  We see examples of that and are told directly.

But by 2 Tim the gift was leaving Paul because he wrote in 2 Tim 4:20 "Erastus abode at Corinth; but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick."  Paul could not heal Miletum.   This is a clear sign that they laying of hands to heal people in a miraculous way was no longer happening.  And it becomes hard to reconcile that people should not put trust in doctors when one of the disciples was a doctor.

Either way great job on the post and I am sure it will be eye opening for many who do not notice.

One note is moonies section is a duplicate post of JW.  Wink

Scarry thought.

But then I got to the point of where he mentions that they do not have to be dependant upon casino's and such....  I wonder if the sad reality is know to Mr Farrakhan...there is ALOT of money in casino's.  America is fast becoming a gambling nation.  Poker and the other games are getting more glamorized and more popular.

I thank God every day that I live in one of the few states in the South that have not picked up a lottery.

And it is also just so wonderful to see a peace loving, non-hate spreading person like Farrakhan refer to all non-whites as his kin.  That is just plain hilarious.

I could go on an on about the sorts such as Farrakhan...but if I do the I get very close to saying things that are very un-Christianlike Cheesy

1556  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re: Muslims challenged to denounce evil on: July 31, 2006, 08:55:50 AM
I believe this is what really needs to happen in the face of terrorists who attempt to use their religion as the excuse for their actions.

However this needs to not be strictly American in nature or those like OBL will simply state that they are no longer true Muslims and have fallen to the sway of us nasty American's.  This drive needs to be wide sweeping and encompass as many of the Islamic nations leaders as possible.  And even come from whomever is considered the highest authority in Islam.

The downside is that OBL has been going on for so long (even before 9/11) that although he preaches it is of Islam, those that join him now are not as driven by religious means but just acceptance and power.  These actions will help slow down a flow of people and possibly money.  But only a little.

I fear that this would be a case of too little, too late.

Yeah I know ANWR would have still been 10+ yrs down the road and we would still be paying high prices right now.  However once we become less dependent upon foreign oil the less affected we are when the mid east countries decide to have neighborly disputes Wink
1559  Theology / General Theology / Re: What do you think of President Bush? on: July 27, 2006, 04:03:23 PM
Let me ask you all this.  If someone you trusted came up to you and said they were on this really cool news archive site and they saw an article that in 1972 there was this man who had run for President that came from Gobbler's Knob, Tennessee.  You would more than likely believe that person.  Because you trust them, and what they are reporting is not outlandish or anything is it.  But later on you find out the information is false.  Does that make this person a liar?  If you went out and told someone about it before you found out, does that make you a liar?  Certainly not!

We had intelligence to suggest that Iraq had weapons.  Intelligence we trusted as accurate.  It is impossible for anyone to independantly verify every piece of information they get.  You have to rely on someone elses interpretation of things, and our gment is the same way.  There is no way we could go out and verify everything there is that we hear about.  And the reports we received fit with Saddam's actions and his words over the past years.

I like Bush for the most part.  He has tried many things that would better the country out....ANWR was one that was shot down...now look at the near $3/gallon we are paying ( I know we would still be paying it now cause ANWR would not be going).  Tax cuts are great and we have gotten more of a break now than ever.  Low interest rates as well.  It has been a stupendous 6 years so far.  I can only hope he leaves a great legacy.

Although I think it a terrible thing to be a sexual predator I fail to see why we stop or start even thinking about tracking them via GPS.  What about murderers?  I have always had an issue with the tracking of released felon.  Instead of spending all the money on ways to track them, spend it on building prisons and just keep them in the prison for their entire sentence and get rid of this parole and early release programs.

If they pay their debt to society in the manner originally incarcerated for then what gives us as a society the right to track them for the rest of their lives?  Are we turning into a society that once a convict, alsways a convict?
