LOL

Yessir I guess that is what I would call it.  At 40 I am too old to do even one fourth of the things I did in my youth (without hurting myself).  Old enough to still wrestle around with my kids though....but not without some consequences at times.

Old enough to bring up things from my youth (such as records and 8-tracks) and have my kids go "huh?".  Old enough to remember when muscle cars where muscle cars and looked darn good sucking down the gas.  Old enough to remember when regular meant leaded.  And by golly old enough to remember when you did not have to monitor what was on television or the radio, it was all pretty much good and clean.

I remember all of that and more...but my wife complains that I can not even remember 5 items to pick up at the grocery store without a list  Grin Grin Grin

Pretty much.  Lots of compat problems and issues with day to day stuff that may be used on one is not on the other and vice versa actually.

And if you actually watch a security focus website you will see that nix as well as other OS's have holes in them as well.  Just with Nix there are less people looking at it and using it so holes are not found as frequently.

If any operating system was perfect then it would be at version 1....until then you have to deal with problems.  There are days I wish that we could have had one thing that was perfect besides Jesus, and that being the Operating System... Cheesy

1536  Entertainment / Computer Hardware and Software / Re: Microsoft error popping up when I come HERE on: August 15, 2006, 03:21:55 PM
Although just abandoning IE is a work around it does not however address the problem.

A little more detail on the error message would be needed to properly diagnose it.

Placing a bandaid on the problem is just that.  And depending on the actual issue that you are receiving it could be indicative of a larger issue that is going on and will crop up again, but next time maybe even worse.

Initially I would recommend backing up any data you do not want lost (easy to drop it on another drive if you have it, burn to disc, etc).

Then try and give exactly what error is and what it says.  Along with OS version information.

I am sure there are folks that can help

I may not be as old as some of the folks around.  But I remember taking the hikes through the woods and raising cane with my bike with the big banana seat and the chopper style handle bars with the what seemed like 4 foot sissy bar on the back....

A typical day was walking to the bus station (1/2 mile), coming home from school and finishing up the home work then some chores.  Then it was time to go out with the friends to the water hole, into the woods, or out to any one of the 4-5 forts we had scattered around.  We played Pirates of the Carribean, Army, Cops and Robbers, and many many other great games.  The best "weapon" I had was a stick that doubled as a gun, cane, crutch, and best of all a fishing pole.

The days when you could keep your front door unlocked all night long and not worry about it.  You could walk or ride your bike down the road a mile or two to the country store and get a soda (maybe a second for the walk home).  And you did not have to worry about cars hitting you, or crazies grabbing you.

Ahhhhh those good old days.  So often do I wish my kids could grow up in a society like that.  But I know that even in the rural communities now more and more doors are locked, more and more neighbors never meet, and most of all Satan continues to prove he rules this world.

I tell you all this now.  My place in heaven will be open for one and all to drop by and have a cup of tea, coffee, or whatever and we can sit on the porch and watch the heaven go by....I would have said watch the world go by...but that would have been right Wink

I would love to be sitting in heaven and see that headline.  But after the church is called up they that remain will not even realize what has happened, or that their concept will be clouded.
Revelations lets us know that the rapture of the church will be explained away to the rest of the world.  They will not realize what had happened to everyone but will accept it and move on.

Although it appears the check was not for the full amount it was true that he donated a sizeable amount.  And that is praiseworthy in and of itself and does not alter the situation of why this would not make front page news as well.
For every article that makes the news about the Dixie Chicks should be 10 times as many who show support of our troops and what they stand for.

1541  Prayer / Prayer Requests / Basement kids lose their mother on: August 14, 2006, 09:45:21 AM
This past Thursday a woman I knew passed away. (Dont start praying yet)

When I was a teen myself and many other kids used to go over to her house and hang out in the basement (it was finished).  We would talk, play games, and many other things.  It kept us all off of the streets and in one place.  Even as some of us moved out of teens and into early 20's we would get together over there just about every night.  Although never in the group setting many would use drugs such as dope or alcohol.

This woman was a kind woman for allowing her childrens friends to come and stay whenever they needed.  She opened her house to any who needed it.  She did so not as just an open flop house.  She had rules.  Your parents had to know, if you were in school you had to do your homework, and there was a curfew during the week.  There were her rules and it was her house so you either abided by them and stayed or you did not and left.

I attended the memorial service last night and met with many of my fellow basement kids.  I got to see the legacy that 'Mom' left behind.  I do not know the state of her salvation, she was either lost or she was saved and strayed very very far away.  Although genuinely kind and keeping with the "love thy neighbor" there were many aspects of the faith she did not follow.

And looking at the blood legacy in her children, none graduated from school, one is/has been a homosexual, one is flip flop in that she was strait then gay and now strait again.  the last is married but spends more time at the bar playing darts than anything else.  The extended family (basement kids) there is but one who is a professed Christian and you are reading his post now.

I loved her dearly like an adoptive mother.  For that is what she was.  She showed me great wisdom and kindness, and resepect from the first meeting.  I hope that she is in Heaven with Jesus right now.

My prayers now go out to the family and the 'kids'.  Not for comfort in this time of mourning.  But for salvation.  I pray to that in the next few days that I will encounter them again that Jesus will speak through me to them and plant the seeds of true comfort.  For I know that is the only comfort they are to get is through salvation.

Just felt the burden to share.

Sincerely
Brother Jerry
1542  Prayer / Prayer Requests / Re: A friend's decisions... on: August 14, 2006, 09:21:15 AM
Prayers and more prayers out for all involved.  Including Kevin the professed Christian.

She is young and is exhibiting a now typical teenager mentality.  I have seen it many times in and been there myself (Yes even I was a teen once...I bet even PR was at one time Wink  ).  But she has started down an extreme path that warrants earnest and sincere prayers.

The post you showed us is full of hopes and dreams even though she tries to hide it with apparent understanding.  Not knowing what the future will bring she mentions he will go to school for engineering.  All the while she is going to work and put him through school.  His parents offered a place to stay but they want to do it on their own.  Before long a child will come into the picture and instead of a blessing it will be perceived a curse to them.  Some may think this sort of thing happens only in the movies.  But it is happening all across America.  And day by day there are girls thinking they can change the man or that it will not be them.  And those chances are small.

And Christian or not, no man or woman should make the person the profess to love choose between anyone they care about.  Satan is working over time there in burning up the seeds that have been planted in her heart.

LP you continue to stand firm.  Pray ferverently.  And most importantly always be there for her.  As far as your feelings for her, you need to leave those with God as well.  Do not let your personal feelings get in the way of being a witness to her.  What she will need is someone to be there as a constant reminder of the love she had in her family and friends and they will always be there to welcome her back when she is ready for it.  Unfortunately right now the odds are that she is set in her path and she will not allow anything to deter her from that.  But she will be back.

Sincerely
Brother Jerry
1543  Welcome / About You! / Re: Christian Email Mentors? on: August 11, 2006, 09:15:32 AM
AMEN!!! Air

And praise God for the extra minutes you had spending it with your family.

I spent a couple of hours at the hospital the other night saying goodbye.  I said good bye to a woman who was an adoptive mother to me.  My friends and I used to hang out over at her house ALL the time.  She did not even know I was there as cancer and medication had her wiped out.  Her adoptive family was all there (all my old friends).  I looked around and the only prayer that I could have was in thanks for my salvation and to pray for each and every one of my old friends in that they would find salvation, for none are saved.  I then prayed right then and there for each and every one of them.  And the woman that helped raise them, for I knew she was lost or had strayed very far away.  She went to meet the Lord that night (I can only pray that she did get to stay with the Lord).  Her family getting to finally say good bye.

All that said we as the head of the household have to not only maintain our spirituality but we are responsible for the spirituality of our children.  If we live a life that is devoid of Christ then the odds are that our children will not, and their children as well.  As it is written "The sins of the father...."  There is but one sin of the father and that is to ignore The Father.  It is not just that we are born with sin nature but perpetuate a sin nature.  I am so joyous that you were able to take that time with your daughter and I pray you continue to develop that time and be the spiritual leader you can be in Christ.  And unlike my scenario above, the legacy you leave behind is one of great followers of Chrsit and not lost souls.

1544  Theology / General Theology / Re: The Week What's It's Origin on: August 10, 2006, 06:03:02 PM
It is something to look at that thingy called creation and see what it was that God actually created.
In the beginning there was nothing.  Not only when God spoke and said let their be light did He create light but also time.  And from there it was refined.

As PR stated the week was created from the creation process.  But what other methods of time were created and mentioned? Gen 1:14 "And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years;"

Here we have God creating factors of time such as days and years, and even seasons.  But what is a few things you do not see created by God?  Minutes, seconds, months.  These are creations of man.  God's time was a simpler time one that would rely only on the seasons or years or days.  And really what more do you need?  I just wish that God's time came with a snooze alarm Wink

just kidding

What a real shame.  Because I was actually interested in seeing that movie.  It looked incredibly funny.  And Ferrell is one of those folks that can do comedy that is not off color or anything of that nature.  But I guess since he co-wrote this one his true color is shining out.

May have to write him off of my watch list.

Oh well my money would better be served in the offering plate than the coffers of the theatre anyways.
