I know I haven't been on for long periods of time for the last few days, (been trying to finish some translation for my church), but I haven't seen Pastor Roger, is he OK? Does anyone know how his brother is doing?
He is fine, his son took his computer to add memory to it.... Tongue

Are you sure about the fine part? I tried to get him to take care of my memory problem, too. He said that was beyond his expertise.

Your memory, my dear Pastor Roger, may have something to do with a thing called AGE. Only in the Kingdom of God will it be repaired.

uhh ...  would you believe premature old age?

I don't qualify for senior citizen discounts for another 3 months.

I will, after they put the rod back in my back. Cheesy

Well I'm praying you feel better even before they put the rod back in your back, and I'm praying you will be able to enjoy a great Thanksgiving dinner too! Remember y Brother, God is a creative God and He is your Father. (even if you are a Post-Nut, serial poster Tongue) Grin
I would rather be a cereal poster, myself. On second though, make that Fruit Loops. Cheesy

I prefer Fruity Pebbles, without milk. Cheesy

Thank you for asking, sister. I have been a bit busy the last few days.

Then my son took my computer so he could install another memory stick into it. That took a bit longer than he expected it to do but now I can do more than one thing at a time on my computer without it getting bogged down.  Grin Grin Thats pretty important for a new computer to do. (especially if you want to be a posting nut.)

My brother goes into surgery on Nov 3rd for his heart valve and the bypasses. The stents to his kidneys worked quite well so they were able to get him in sooner than they had thought.

DUH! I guess I should have looked at the last page, before answering her question.

I have been keeping your brother, in my prayers Pastor Roger. Please keep us updated.

Thats alright, brother. It gave me an excuse for making some more posts.  Cheesy Cheesy

I'll post updates as I get anything knew. Thank you all for your prayers.

Hello Firehouse,

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear about your brother. There are many more of these types of situations arising in the world today. It shows just how the devil is taking hold of some people.

You seem to be quite wise in the ways of the Lord. I hope to see more posts from you.

Sometimes when counseling it is best to be blunt and to the point. However in this situation I must agree with you. I don't believe that obsession is quite on target. Perhaps bordering on it but not obsession to the point that you are talking about, which is an all consuming, out of control response to the situation.  This is quite obviously not the case with WaitingOnGod or she would not be concerned with other things such as what her religious beliefs are in regards to this.

WaitingOnGod,

I understand your wanting closer on this one way or another. There will always be a question of what might have been and what part that you may or may not have had in his actions without this closer. Sometimes we are not permitted this luxury in life. If it is Gods will that you are to be together then this will be cleared up and you will be brought together. Stay strong in the Lord, pray about it, give it to His hands. Then move on with your life.

Amen brother. Being a witness is the most important and the most effective part of witnessing.

Welcome to Christians Unite, Campanaro. I hope that you find what you are looking for.

I would have to say the first thing that I see in a church is if there is brotherly love there or not. There is nothing more disheartening than to enter a church and receive a cold shoulder of indifference from the members.

It is more important to be Biblically correct than politically correct. Sometimes this will cause people to not return but if we are not preaching/teaching the word of God then we have failed as a church.

‘Instant’ stalagmites!

by Don Batten

The photo records a large stalagmite shawl. A shawl is a limestone formation which has formed by running down the rock, rather than being free-standing like stalactites (which ‘stick tight’ because they hang from the roof) or stalagmites (which grow up from the ground).

Guides to limestone caves usually say that such large lumps of limestone take many thousands—even millions—of years to grow. However, this specimen was found in an abandoned gold mine tunnel near Burrendong Dam in central New South Wales, Australia. This is not far from Stuart Town, the town of ‘The Man from Iron Bark’ in A.B. (‘Banjo’) Paterson’s poem by the same name.

The Australian gold rushes began not far from here at Ophir in 1851, so the tunnel dates after that. Since the tunnel cuts through solid basalt rock, it was probably blasted out with a considerable amount of explosives. Such engineering feats were not undertaken by the average gold rush fossicker and so this tunnel almost certainly dates from considerably later than 1851. In any case, the tunnel and the shawl can be no older than about 140 years.

The horizontal tunnel is about 1.6 metres (about 5 feet) high and runs 50 metres (160 feet) straight into a hill. There are no side-tunnels, so the exploratory tunnel apparently failed to reveal any worthwhile gold-bearing veins. The shawl in the photo is near the inside end of the tunnel—in the middle of the hill.

The lesson? Stalactites and stalagmites do not need a long time to form!

Raiders of the Lost Pool
New finds bolster the historicity of John's Gospel.
by Gordon Govier | posted 10/26/2005 09:00 a.m.

The Pool of Siloam, considered a metaphor in John's Gospel by some New Testament scholars, was in fact a huge basin at the lowest point in the city of Jerusalem. Recent excavations have uncovered two corners and one side of the pool that stretched for half the length of a football field.

"It's very exciting," James Charlesworth, a professor of New Testament at Princeton Theological Seminary, told CT. "It's very important for the study of the New Testament."

Some Johannine experts have suggested the story in John 9 of the blind man whom Jesus healed and told to wash in the Pool of Siloam wasn't much more than a metaphor.

"To dismiss John as not historically important is absurd," Charlesworth said. "Now it becomes clear that the Gospel of John does have reliable historical information. We have found there is such a pool, precisely as John describes it."

Tradition has always located the Pool of Siloam near the end of Hezekiah's water tunnel, which dates to the eighth century B.C. The pool under excavation is just a few yards from a much smaller Byzantine-era pool that visitors to the area had been calling the Pool of Siloam.

Several digs have been going on in the City of David area, the oldest part of Jerusalem. The narrow 10-acre ridge of land stretches from the Temple Mount down to the junction of the Kidron and Hinnom valleys.

Elsewhere in Jerusalem, Israeli archaeologist Eilat Mazar has discovered large foundation stones of a monumental building in an excavation that began earlier this year. Pottery shards found in one room date to the Iron Age II period, the 10th-9th century B.C., the time of David and Solomon. Underneath the building she found Iron Age I pottery, dating to just before the time of David.

Mazar believes she has uncovered David's palace in what The Jerusalem Post calls "the archaeological find of the century," if true.

One archaeologist calls Mazar's tentative conclusion about her discovery "wishful thinking." But others have called it "an extremely impressive find," "something of a miracle," and "a very significant discovery," even though there's no consensus yet that this could be the palace that was used by David and Solomon and possibly their Judahite monarchy descendants all the way to King Zedekiah.

Among the pottery shards and other finds, Mazar's team uncovered a bulla, or seal impression, with the name Jehudi, a palace officer. Jeremiah 36 reports that Jehudi read the scroll of Jeremiah's warnings to King Jehoiakim. The king, to show his contempt for the prophet, cut off the columns of the scroll with a knife as Jehudi read them and tossed them into the fire.

The excavation is currently off limits to visitors, even though it's located at what had been the visitor's center of the Ir David Foundation. Ir David is a conservative group that has been buying up land in the mostly Arab East Jerusalem neighborhood known as Silwan.

Last summer the Jerusalem City Council announced plans to raze 88 Arab homes in Silwan (from Siloam), in order to pursue plans for an archaeological park in the area. Officials claimed the homes were built illegally.
