  A Fisher of Men

By: Adam R. Rinehart
Adam@tddm.org

"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." (Matthew 4:19)

I am sitting here in my office, thinking about all of the snow coming our way, and all of the work that I have to do before it gets here.  In times like these my daydreaming mind always wanders to something pleasant. Like, a quiet lake with just me and the elements, and seeing how many worms I can drown. There are times that I just wish that I could put a sign out on the church entrance that says, "Gone Fishing!  If you need me, call my cell."

Do you enjoy fishing? Have you ever caught a fish? Fishing is a great sport, and if you have ever been fishing, you know that there is such a wonderful excitement when you actually catch a fish. One of the things that makes fishing such a great sport is that it doesn't matter if you are young or old, or if you are a girl or a boy –you can still catch a fish. What does it take to be good at catching fish?

First of all, you need to be properly equipped. You can't just get piece of string, put a hook on it, and tie it on the end of a stick and expect to catch very many fish, can you? No! If you are serious about fishing, you will make sure that you have all the right equipment. You will want a nice rod and reel.  The next thing you need to know is that you can't sit around talking with your friends about fishing or reading fishing magazines and expect to catch any fish. You have to go where the fish are to catch them! You want to be where the fish are.  Finally, if you want to be good at fishing, you must learn patience. Sometimes the fish just aren't biting. I guess that is the main reason I was never very good at fishing. I thought that you should catch a fish the minute your hook hit the water.

One day, Jesus was walking along the seashore when he saw two brothers named Peter and Andrew. Jesus knew that they made their living by fishing, so he called out to them, "Follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!" Do you know what they did? They laid down their fishing nets and followed Jesus.

Jesus wants you and me to fish for people too. That means that he wants us to tell others about what he has done for, us and what he wants to do for them. When is the last time that you "went fishing”? Maybe you need to be like me, and put everything else aside and literally go fishing.  Maybe you could fish at the mall, or the pizza parlor.  Wherever you know that there are some fish, go, find them!  Now is the time!  May God's Grace Abound in You

The floor will do for me as long as someone is willing to help me back up.  Wink Grin

Just scoot!  Why would you want to back up anyway? Grin Grin

That is a humble position. Hmm ....  I wonder if that is the reason my legs don't work right.

Hey PR.................just agree with me for a change.  Forget about that floor nonsense and just pull up a chair.  OK?  OK!  There now, it's settled.  Whew..............you know, you can be a trouble maker. Tongue Lips Sealed Grin

58219  Theology / Apologetics / Re:Is Jesus God? - Part Two on: November 08, 2005, 03:08:46 PM
Hi GKB,

Welcome to the forum.

Many people struggle with this concept. The scripture tells us clearly that they are three. Jesus tells us this Himself in Mat 28:19. Yet we also know that they are one as we see in many different verses (1John 5:7 for one) for there is one and only one God. We also see that Jesus is God come to us in the flesh (John 1).

We know that God does not lie so we know by faith that these things are true.

I will pray for you  Smiley. I wake up in the middle of the night and I automatically start praying usually I start praying for my husband first and for some reason the other night God led me to pray for my friends at this forum. I felt so much better I just drifted of to sleep again.
My grandson is doing so much better, my daughter took my advice and she and her husband pray with him at bedtime and she pleads the Blood over her family daily. They also moved into a new house, I went to visit them on Saturday, and my grandson looks wonderful. Thank you for asking. Cheesy

That is great news Sister. I still have all of you on prayer list.

Cris,

I just downloaded the version that Brother Tom showed you in his link. It should work just fine on Windows ME. If it doesn't then once you have it installed just right click on the icon then go to properties. When that window comes up click on the compatibility tab and check mark "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"

Then select Windows ME. Click the apply button and try it again. It should work fine for you then.

Thanks.....OK.........just off the cuff, how long did your download take?  I know you don't have dial-up........I do, so it will take longer.  I'm not going to download until I know that this computer is okay.

Grace and peace,
cris

It took about 2 secs.

58228  Prayer / General Discussion / Re:A Miracle on: November 08, 2005, 11:44:29 AM
Brother,

It is a hard thing to see the suffering and death of these fleshy bodies of ours especially when they belong to family and friends. I praise God that we who are saved will only have to go through that once, that we will all be in heaven together with no more pain or sorrow.

I also praise God for dear friends like you that know this pain and sorrow first hand that also know the joy that awaits us all and can share that with so many.

Thank you, Brother for this wonderful testimony.

58229  Theology / Debate / Re:Should War in Iraq be Supported by Christians? on: November 08, 2005, 11:16:42 AM

To Dreamweaver, thank you for your response, and your defense of the faith. It's good to see someone here can stand by their beliefs with a defense rather than just insult someone with opposing opinions and cast them away, even if they play devil's advocate. Apparently no one else here has a response to the liberals about these issues, or other Christians like myself.

To Pastor Paul, again I respect your military service, but I question your pastoring skills, and I definitely question your ability to win coverts, especially those who might have differing political opinions if you can't engage in a debate with even a fellow believer.

To cris and blackeyedpeas, you insult before you can even debate, how do you win converts to Christ this way? This is why America hates us, not because we are outstanding Christians, but because we can't even defend our beliefs with information and discussion, we snigger in our little safe corner and cast insults.

Also, that was not an advertising link- that was a link to an article. You are obviously too narrow-minded to even read it.

I can't believe you actually removed me from this site. Is this really a Christian site? Isn't this the section for debates? Well when it got hot in the kitchen, I wasn't the one to leave. Good luck winning people for Christ, you would probably make us look bad here in California so you should maybe stick to the Bible belt.

God bless

No one removed you from this site, at least not yet, so cool your heels. The link you provided did link to items being offered for sale therfore it constitutes advertisement. Read and understand the forum rules. I strongly suggest before you go any further and stick your foot in your mouth again that you do read the forum rules.

You have also crossed the line on personal attacks. Again read the forum rules. Personal attacks will not be tolerated.

These are not debateable points. This is an official warning and the last one that you will get.
