1  Theology / Debate / Re:Athiests, etc who celebrate Christmas on: December 21, 2004, 11:48:32 AM
Yes i am an atheist, there are rules to what people can say (on this forum), to say the least it limits me more than others but yes we do exist  Wink

and the OP is the Opening post....i think Grin

Your main problem is that is was originally a religious holiday? (as some others have mentioned, it was pagan in origin, then t'was modified a bit)

And that non-Christians shouldn't worship it for this reason?

I would blame the Companies and Media who hype the holiday up.  I remember seeing a discussion similar to this, where a person said that basically The Christmas holiday used to be just celebrated by Chrisitans, and it wasn't such a big deal for everyone else. So i would expect if you looked back in the newspapers, go back about 30 years, and and keep going back in 10 year steps. See how much Christmas is reported in the papers.

other than that, i would say one of your non-christian friends is correct, it isn't really celebrated for the religious reasons much. Sure there is a lot of good things that come out of it. But you don't see papers or the TV reporting on the Christian message. Instead they portray the commercial aspect of our 'new Christmas', they're in it for the money.

I'm an atheist, do you want me to reply to that? (the OP) Smiley
3  Theology / Debate / Re:Killing animals for fashion?! on: November 26, 2004, 12:35:35 PM
I just eat meat because it tastes good, is easy to obtain because of high demand, gives a varied diet (although as you said you can get proteins from plants etc)

Of course i doubt someones going to find that meat is for health reasons unhealthy, just look at those eskimo's....eaten away on a meat only diet.

I read an interesting article on that once.... Huh must find it.

Hmmm all the British fols seem to be from the North... Tongue

I'm from Aberdeen Scotland. Oil Capital of Europe.(north sea Oil), The silver City (the granite buildings), Third Largest City in Scotland.

Actually i'm going to Quote a bit from the Cities Website...

Home to a population of 212,125, Aberdeen is a thriving, cosmopolitan port in the North-east of Scotland.

Built at the mouth of two major Scottish rivers, the Dee and the Don, and covering an area of 184.47 square kilometres (71.22 square miles), the Granite City owes its distinctive appearance to the famous, locally quarried and widely exported, building material. Traditional industries such as fishing and farming still flourish in and around the city but Aberdeen's buoyant modern economy - reflected in unemployment rates consistently under 2% - is fuelled by the oil industry, earning the city its epithet as 'Oil Capital of Europe'.

Errmmmm Oh and Since we're close to the Hills, theres oppotunity for all the usual stuff. (i.e. walking climbing etc Even skiing IF your lucky....). Their not quite as impressive as say the Alps (my mums swiss and we spend summers down there,  gorgeous views  Cheesy ) We've also got watersports activities near by etc...(although it WILL be cold, unless you catch a hot period)

I think i'll cheat

Just thought you ladies should be aware of this quote

Nancy Astor (1879-1964)
American Born British Conservative politician
"I married Beneath me, all woman do"
'in Dictionary of National Biography 1961-1970' (1981)

Does this make me a gender traitor?   Cheesy
11  Theology / Debate / Re:Meat is Murder on: November 15, 2004, 11:17:35 AM
What and let themselves die?

I think you overestimate them....
12  Theology / Debate / Re:Meat is Murder on: November 14, 2004, 01:55:59 PM
Could i point out that vegetarians are at the very least hypocrites as they still use animal products. So for instance they drink milk, only the cows can produce milk, and since the farmer can't use all the bulls (some will be needed to maintain the populations), most are killed for meat. So a vegetarian actually helps support the farmer too.
13  Theology / Debate / Re:Why don't we call for the president to stop killing IRAQI babies? on: November 13, 2004, 06:25:01 PM

14  Fellowship / For Men Only / Re:Chance Encounter with a Girl on: November 10, 2004, 11:48:33 AM
Yes, it sounds like she likes you.

Of course that might be a bias cause you are giving us limited information.
15  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re:Question regarding children on: November 09, 2004, 05:36:09 PM
If your the type of people (in your area) that would connect those things together i suppose its a bad thing. I've never connected that in my years of watching TV ( although i currently watch nothing, due to boredom with it and its not exactly interactive) And I suppose that since i havn't connected it, It isn't bad, i mean i shouldn't go around activly thinking these things? That would be counter-productive i.e must not think "hes not wearing pants" ad nauseam, you think what your not meant too

You know if you can draw some pearls of wisdom from that, you'll be doing great  Wink Its a bit messed. Basically i'm saying that "ignorance is divine", if your kids notice it, ban it, if not or if they don't say it'll be your call....

unless someone can quote scripture for it, i'm sure you'lll find that much more helpful.
