I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good Christian radio stations which you can listen to over the Internet? One of the beauties of the Internet is that it has opened up the whole world to us. And i love listening to radio from other parts of the world and hearing about there local interests and of course, great, uplifting music.

I really don't know what is happening to our Country. Yesterday, 9 men were arrested under the Terrorism act and it has been emerging that these men were planning to kidnap a member of the British army, a muslim, who had served in Afghanistan. They were going to torture him and then behead him and post it on the Internet. I just find this so hard and cannot understand how they can do these sorts of things  Sad

48  Entertainment / Computer Hardware and Software / Re: Internet Explorer 7 on: February 01, 2007, 05:20:59 AM
Bro Tom. I have IE7 installed but you know me. I'm still a firefox freak  Grin

IE7 is a big improvement on IE6 as far as security is concerned, but its the same old story. If you do not have it figured correctly, you may well find the same problems of browser hijacking, spyware etc etc.

Opera is also a good browser and i think the days of having to pay for the browser or having the free version but having ads at the top of the browser, are over. My Opera browser certainly doesn't have the ads anymore and i haven't paid a penny for it.

I did notice someone mentioned the Maxathon browser. If you use that, please be careful. I think i'm right in saying that its a shell of IE and comes with the same vulnerabilities.
49  Entertainment / Computer Hardware and Software / Re: Norton about to expire and I don't know what to do on: February 01, 2007, 05:11:31 AM
Beloved, you have been given wonderful advice here. I used Nortons for a number of years and got on well with it, but it was bloated and slowed my computer down, especially on start up. I have been using Kaspersky (which is rated one of the best on the market) this past year and find it excellent. But my renewal is up very soon and after reading so many glowing reports about avast, i am tempted to install that and use it. I may as well save a few £'s if i can.

The Zone Alarm firewall is once again very good and i actually think the easist one to use. Once you have it configured to your liking, it never bothers you again. And i used it with dial up a while back and it gave me no problems.

As for the firefox browser. I just cannot recommend it enough. I use them all but firefox is my default browser and 99% of my browsing is done with firefox. I run firefox with NoScript continually running, which makes it even more safer and secure and like Brother Tom said, there are many many extensions you can add, which improves your internet experience.

One other excellent program that i'm not sure if anyone has mentioned is spywareblaster. This free program actually stops spyware etc getting onto your computer in the first place. I know spybot, adaware etc removes these nasties but spywareblaster actually stops many of these itelms getting onto your PC. IMHO, a must have program.

Bro Tom, to capture a picture of your desktop, look at the top of your key board and look for the key that says print screen. On my keyboard, its next to the F12 key...When you find the print screen key just press it. You won't hear anything or see anything but don't worry.

Next stage is to open the paint program that comes with windows. Once paint is open, click Edit and then click paste. The shot that you have taken of your desktop or browser, will then appear.

Then click File at top of page and then click save as. This bit is important. Change the file type from 24 bit Bitmap to JPeg and then save the file to where ever you want to save it on your computer...And thats it  Smiley

The program i used to actually post my screenshot on the forum is a web site called Image Shack and can be found here

http://imageshack.us/

Once web page is open, hit browse and then go to the folder where you placed your picture or screenshot. Double click the file and it will then be entered on the imageshack software....Check the box that says resize image and on the drop down menu, chose the size you want. I always go for 1024x768. Then click the Host it Tab.

Depending on the size of the photo and speed of your connection, the photo will be hosted. You will get 3 lines of text. Just copy and paste the 2nd line of text into any forum such as CU and the small picture should then appear in your post. All someone has to then do is just click on your small image and it will then open up to full size. This way of doing it, is excellent for people who may be on dial up, as it takes so much less time to open up the page.

Hope this all makes sense but please ask, if any of it isn't clear and i will try again.

Here's what mine looks like

52  Entertainment / Computer Hardware and Software / Re: WOW on: November 29, 2006, 01:47:11 AM
Thats a very impressive speed Pastor Roger...My ISP offers an 8meg broadband speed but sadly i cannot take full advantage on that, as the phone line going into my house isn't able to take those speeds. But BT plan to upgrade this area shortly and then I'll be able to take advantage fully on the 8meg speed. But even now, i am totally satisfied with the speed of my broadband connection and its very fast, so i cannot imagine what 8meg will be like  Smiley

I changed ISP in the summer. The company who i have my cell phone with have now gone into the internet market and they had an offer where any customer who has a cell phone contract of at least £30 a month could then have broadband for free. So i looked into that, as it would save me £25 a month that i was paying at the time for my connection. I discovered that the free offer did give you a monthly allowance of what you could download and since i have two teenage children whose laptops i have networked to my system, i wasn't sure that this deal would be of any use. So looking into it further, i discovered that you could have unlimited useage for just £10 a month, so thats what i went with. I am still saving a lot of money each month and the service is excellent....And last week it got even better. I got an email from my ISP telling me that i can now plug a phone into my livebox (similar to a router) and then make phonecalls to any landline within the UK, day or night, 7 days a week, for free plus i can phone any mobile phone on there network for free also, and the price for my connection stays at £10. One of the best deals i have seen here in the UK  Smiley
53  Theology / Debate / Re: A FUN QUESTION on: November 28, 2006, 05:28:25 PM
I use to think of a fundamentalist Christian as being a bit of a nutcase.

But like Len, my view has changed over the years and i now look at them as people who have the guts to say what they believe and are not scared what people and the world think of them. Over the years, society has changed and now accept as normal, things which past generations would have no way entertained. But i believe that a FC would stand up and say to heck with the norm, the bible says it wrong and so its wrong. And they won't be scared to confess that, whatever the world may say.

56  Entertainment / Computer Hardware and Software / Re: Firefox 2.0 Release Candidate 2 has been officially released. on: October 10, 2006, 07:37:13 AM
Thanks Brother Joey!

You just convinced me to go ahead with the new one. I'll install it sometime today. One of my favorite extensions that I use all the time is ScrapBook, and it's already updated for use with Firefox 2.0. I know that the huge selection of extensions really make Firefox a lot of fun. BUT, Firefox alone represents a big upgrade from Internet Explorer.

So far, I would compare the quality of the programmers of Firefox with anyone, including the commercial programs. In fact, I think they are better. The same is true for other "Open Source" type programs like Open Office. We're talking about OUTSTANDING, first class FREE software.

Love In Christ,
Tom

3 John 1:2-4 NASB  Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. For I was very glad when brethren came and testified to your truth, that is, how you are walking in truth. I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.

Your welcomed Brother Tom. Let me know what you think, once you have been using it a little. So far, i'm really impressed with it.
57  Entertainment / Computer Hardware and Software / Re: Firefox 2.0 Release Candidate 2 has been officially released. on: October 10, 2006, 05:33:30 AM
I have installed this new version and so far, i like it. Its been stable so far which is the main thing. One of my themes which i use all the time didn't work, but the few extensions that i do have work just fine. As i use firefox 99% of the time, any problems that this browser may have, i am sure i will soon stumble across them. But knowing FF, they will be few and far between

A screen shot of my new browser

I copied this from the Mozilla web site. It will give you a idea what is new and their are some important changes with this new browser

What's New in this Development Milestone

There is a lot in Firefox 2 RC 2 that you can play around with and give us feedback on:

    *

Visual Refresh: Firefox 2's theme and user interface have been updated to improve usability without altering the familiarity of the browsing experience. For instance, toolbar buttons now glow when you hover over them. We will continue to improve the look and feel throughout the release candidate process.
    *

Built-in phishing protection: Phishing Protection warns users when they encounter suspected Web forgeries, and offers to return the user to their home page. Phishing Protection is turned on by default, and works by checking sites against either a local or online list of known phishing sites. This list is automatically downloaded and regularly updated when the Phishing Protection feature is enabled.
    *

Enhanced search capabilities: Search term suggestions will now appear as users type in the integrated search box when using the Google, Yahoo! or Answers.com search engines. A new search engine manager makes it easier to add, remove and re-order search engines, and users will be alerted when Firefox encounters a website that offers new search engines that the user may wish to install.
    *

Improved tabbed browsing: By default, Firefox will open links in new tabs instead of new windows, and each tab will now have a close tab button. Power users who open more tabs than can fit in a single window will see arrows on the left and right side of the tab strip that let them scroll back and forth between their tabs. The History menu will keep a list of recently closed tabs, and a shortcut lets users quickly re-open an accidentally closed tab.
    *

Resuming your browsing session: The Session Restore feature restores windows, tabs, text typed in forms, and in-progress downloads from the last user session. It will be activated automatically when installing an application update or extension, and users will be asked if they want to resume their previous session after a system crash.
    *

Previewing and subscribing to Web feeds: Users can decide how to handle Web feeds (like this one), either subscribing to them via a Web service or in a standalone RSS reader, or adding them as Live Bookmarks. My Yahoo!, Bloglines and Google Reader come pre-loaded as Web service options, but users can add any Web service that handles RSS feeds.
    *

Inline spell checking: A new built-in spell checker enables users to quickly check the spelling of text entered into Web forms (like this one) without having to use a separate application.
    *

Live Titles: When a website offers a microsummary (a regularly updated summary of the most important information on a Web page), users can create a bookmark with a "Live Title". Compact enough to fit in the space available to a bookmark label, they provide more useful information about pages than static page titles, and are regularly updated with the latest information. There are several websites that can be bookmarked with Live Titles, and even more add-ons to generate Live Titles for other popular websites.
    *

Improved Add-ons manager: The new Add-ons manager improves the user interface for managing extensions and themes, combining them both in a single tool.
    *

JavaScript 1.7: JavaScript 1.7 is a language update introducing several new features such as generators, iterators, array comprehensions, let expressions, and destructuring assignments. It also includes all the features of JavaScript 1.6.
    *

Extended search plugin format: The Firefox search engine format now supports search engine plugins written in Sherlock and OpenSearch formats and allows search engines to provide search term suggestions.
    *

Updates to the extension system: The extension system has been updated to provide enhanced security and to allow for easier localization of extensions.
    *

Client-side session and persistent storage: New support for storing structured data on the client side, to enable better handling of online transactions and improved performance when dealing with large amounts of data, such as documents and mailboxes. This is based on the WHATWG specification for client-side session and persistent storage.
    *

SVG text: Support for the svg:textpath specification enables SVG text to follow a curve or shape.
    *

New Windows installer: Based on Nullsoft Scriptable Install System, the new Windows installer resolves many long-standing issues.

For anyone who may like trying browsers in the early stages. I will probably download this later today, since when a download like this is released for anyone to try, it is normally pretty stable

59  Entertainment / Computer Hardware and Software / Re: Firefox Security Problems on: October 02, 2006, 03:45:29 PM
Rhys, you are right about the security flaws found in firefox and as firefox becomes more popular, it will be an open target for people trying to exploit it. A few years back, so few people used firefox, it was hardly worth attacking it. But as it became more popular, the attacks on this system increased.
But you will still be safer running firefox than IE. You will not have your browser/homepage hijacked as its not possible and you will find the developers always rush out a fix for any flaw discovered on firefox...And of course, as bro Tom says, make sure you use all other forms of defense as well, such as Firewall, AV, etc etc.

60  Entertainment / Computer Hardware and Software / Re: Even dead people can't escape AOL on: September 26, 2006, 03:06:44 PM
I just read everything you guys wrote and I'm thinking, great.  I have an AOL account because my sister wanted AOL so badly because all her friends have it.  A teenage thing. Roll Eyes  Now you guys have me thinking that I'm going to be 90+ years old and still be stuck with that account.  Maybe that will become a family heirloom. I'll pass that debt to my kids. LOL  Lips Sealed Undecided

Kris777, I'm sure you won't be stuck with an account that you no longer want or need. I was with AOL for over 5 years and i recently cancelled, simply because i had a better broadband deal with my cell phone provider and it was saving me £15 a month. When i did cancel AOL, i had absolutely no problem. They switched my ADSL line over to my new ISP and all charges for AOL stopped instantly. Unfortunately, AOL has gotten a bad press but this has been blown out of all proportion and mainly by people who have never used AOL and have had no dealings whatsoever with AOL. They have listened to to many people and to read to many stories, and while i do not doubt Pastor Rogers story at all, much of what is written about AOL is simply not true....If your enjoying using AOL, then keep using it. Once my present ISP deal comes to an end in 18 months time, if the terms are not favourable, i would have no hesitation in going back to AOL.

After saying all this though, i must state that i live in the UK and so i used AOL Europe, but i know the browser and software was completely the same as people in North America use. But as for customer service, i do not know if that is the same.
