46  Theology / Apologetics / Taking up our crosses on: March 27, 2004, 04:02:00 AM
Something I was thinking about today: what rules our decisionmaking from day to day? THe instant answer is the word of God, but really, after careful analysis, what truly rules our hearts? How do we make choices about what we love, and what we hate? Do we feel a sweetness at the word faithfully preached, even if it means there's something we need to change in our lives? Is the Lord's word sweet to us, or only sweet if we are free to keep the verses we like and ignore those we don't like? Do we love the word only if it's on our terms, according to the translation we like, filtering those precious verses through the sieve of our personal desires?

Something I was thinking about today-the state of the Christian church. May our churches never require the cleansing that would emperil our religious and political freedoms.

But, are we reaching a point where it's hard to tell who is Christian and who is not? Will those who love the truth be willing to stand up for it, even if it means the frowns, scorn, and contempt of the world? Do we put selfish desires ahead of the mandate to make disciples of all men? Or only those men who fall into the boundaries of our personal interests? When we are to make disciples of all men, does that include professing believers?

It seems some in government feel this is an idea worth exploring, and some feel this will inevitably happen. What do you think? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

Well, it isn't really a chat. It's a message board. Realtime discussion is pretty rare unless it's a heated topic.

Blessings,
Whitehorse

Dear Friend,

You might be comforted byu this essay by Thomas Brooks:

The Mute Christian Under the Smarting Rod by Thomas Brooks. This work is still in print after around 400 years.

Also, if you struggle in your walk, please read Precious Remedies Against Satan's Devices, also by Brooks.

Both are available from Banner of Truth. The first is an essay in his collective works, and the second can be purchased separately. Or check your library.

When God brings pain, it's because He knows us better than we know ourselves. It smarts like you wouldn't believe, but He needs to get out every tendency toward sin. There are no small sins, either.

Blessings,
Whitehorse

54  Fellowship / You name it!! / Re:Hypothetical Questions on: March 25, 2004, 11:47:16 PM
This I can say-when two friends like the same person, that will be the end of the friendship. Even if the girl doesn't want to date the first guy anymore, if he still likes her, then he isn't happy about that breakup. Emotionally, he's still with her in his heart. If the second guy steps in, that friendship is over. If the group gets involved, that's the end of the group because everyone will take sides and every bit of hidden group politics, whether it relates to that situation or not, will come into play and it will explode like an atomic bomb. Seen it happen.
