16  Entertainment / Computer Hardware and Software / Re:Mini Mac on: February 08, 2006, 07:08:36 AM
Well, I probably will sell it, but since I live overseas, you wouldn't want to hassle with it. sorry     I want to offer it to some missionary friends here to see if I get any takers.

I've been a Machead since the 80's...love 'em!!!!

The most obvious advantage to the Mac is simply that hackers, worms, viruses etc. can't get a foothold in the OS, so it's basically foolproof from that aspect.  You might want to hold on to the Dell though, for one reason.....there are a lot of websites (the interactive ones) that are made to work only with IE and windows...  I've encountered a bunch where I'll go through filling out a form only to have one little section that just won't take input, or loses it...and it's all because the coders didn't make a hack to accomodate other browsers or OS's.
17  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Islamic eschatology and Iran on: February 02, 2006, 09:12:13 PM
A lot has been posted about Amadinejab and Iran.  I thought this might be interesting in helping understand the mindset of the gweeb!

According to Islamic eschatology, there will be an end to the world, and just before that time, their mahdi (messiah) will come.  Over the years, there have been a number of Hadith (sayings) attributed to many imams (religious leaders) relating some details about this mahdi.  It is interesting to note some parallels with what the Holy Bible has to say about the end times.

A little background, first.  According to Islamic legend, this mahdi is also called the Twelfth Imam.  Sometime around 900 AD, a person known as the twelfth imam disappeared into a (cave) (well) (hole in the ground), where he was hidden by God to await the promised end to civilization.  Following are quotations from various Islamic imams through the centuries, with parallels to scripture or commentaries in plain text after.

There are many signs that will precede him, a general and very important sign is that he will come at a time when there is great confutation, intense disputes and violent deaths. When people are afflicted by disturbance and experiencing great fear. Calamities will fall upon the people, so much so that a man shall not find a shelter to shelter him self from oppression. There will be battles and fitnaas before his appearance. Every time a fitnaa has come to end, another will start, spread and intensify. The people will be troubled to such an extent that they will long for death. It is then that Imam Mahdi will be sent.

Abu Saeed Al-Khudri has repoted that the Messenger of Allah  said "He will be sent at a time of intense disputes and differences among people and earthquakes..." (Ahmed)

Although some of this description is attributable to what John spoke of in Revelation as occurring during the tribulation, it also bears resemblence to what the general condition of the world is going to be like just prior to the beginning of the tribulation......wars and rumors of wars, disease and pestilence, etc..... see Mat. 24.

Hadhrat Umme Salmah(RA) narrates that Rasulullah(SAW) said:

After the death of a Ruler there will be some dispute between the people. At that time a citizen of Madina will flee (from Madina) and go to Makkah. While in Makkah, certain people will approach him between Hajrul Aswad and Maqaame Ibraheem, and forcefully pledge their allegiance to him.

Thereafter a huge army will proceed from Syria to attack him but when they will be at Baida, which is between Makkah and Madina, they will be swallowed into the ground.

On seeing this, the Abdaals of Shaam as well as large numbers of people from Iraq will come to him and pledge their allegiance to him. Then a person from the Quraish, whose uncle will be from the Bani Kalb tribe will send an army to attack him, only to be overpowered, by the will of Allah. This (defeated) army will be that of the Bani Kalb. Unfortunate indeed is he whodoes not receive a share from the booty of the Kalb. This person (Imam Mahdi) will distribute the spoils of war after the battle. He will lead the people according to the Sunnat and during his reign Islam will spread throughout the world. He will remain till seven years (since his emergence). He will pass away and the Muslims will perform his Janazah salaat. (Abu Dawood)

Daniel 7 relates that one person will arise to power after defeating, either militarily or economically, some of his own compatriots.  He will then begin a rule over the area and world that will involve a one-world government and religion.  During this time, he will "wear out the saints ot the Most High," but at the end he will be removed.  Daniel 11 gives more detail concerning this end time ruler, and the battles he will have with some of his kinsmen, particularly Edom, Moab and Ammon.......areas currently encompassing Iraq, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.

The most telling Hadith concerning the mahdi is the one that says:
Abu Sa'id al-Khudari(RA) narrated that Prophet(SAW) said:

Severe calamity from the direction of their ruler will befall my people during the Last Days. It will be a calamity which, in severity, shall be unprecedented. It will be so violent that the earth with injustice and corruption will shrivel for its inhabitants. The believers will not find refuge from oppression. At that time God will send a man from my family to fill the earth with justice and equity just as it is filled with injustice and tyranny. The dwellers of the heavens and the earth will be pleased with him. The earth will bring forth all that grows for him, and the heavens will pour down rains in abundance. He will live among the people for seven or nine years. From all the good that God will bestow on the inhabitants of the earth, the dead will wish to come to life again.
(Ibn Hajar, al-Sawa'iq al-muharriqa, P. 161; Yanabi' al-mawadda, Vol. 2, P. 177)

 and
Abu Sa'id al-Khudari(RA) narrated that the Prophet(SAW) said:

Our Mahdi will have a broad forehead and a pointed (prominent) nose. He will fill the earth with justice as it is filled with injustice and tyranny. He will rule for seven years.
(Abu Dawud, Sahih, Vol. 2, p. 208; Fusul al-muhimma, p. 275)

The bolded part, of course, is a direct reference to both Daniel, where the term of the tribulation period is given as 7 years, and Revelation where the same reference is made. Several other Hadith give the time period as a flat 7 years, and 1 other makes the "7 or 9" reference.

Abu al-Hujaf(RA) quotes the Prophet(SAW) saying three times:

Listen to the good news about the Mahdi! He will rise at the time when people will be faced with severe conflict and the earth will be hit by a violent quake. He will fill the earth with justice and equity as it is filled with injustice and tyranny. He will fill the hearts of his followers with devotion and will spread justice everywhere.
(Bihar al-anwar, Vol. 51, P. 74)

In Matthew 24, Jesus gives a description of the time just preceeding the tribulation period, and the rise to power of the anti-christ.  Among the descriptions given are noted: wars, rumors of wars, pestilence, disease, and earthquakes (presumed to be larger than usual).  It is interesting to note that there are currently over 140 armed conflicts around the world, with the majority of them in Africa, the Middle East and the far East.  Also, the past 10 years have seen an increasing number of great (7+) earthquakes in the middle east resulting in enormous loss of life.

Another warning given by Jesus concerns many who will say they are the Christ.

According to the president Amadinejab of Iran, his purpose in life is to pave the way for the emergence of the mahdi, who he believes to be currently hiding in a cave in Qom, Iran.  As a side note, for the past 10 or so years, advertisements have been being placed in major newspapers around the globe about appearances of "The Christ," also called Mayatreya, by  new-ager  Benjamin Creme.

It is also reported that according to some questionable Hadith, this mahdi will be of Hebrew origin.  Interestingly, those who follow Islam consider themselves to be "related" to the Hebrews, since they descended from one of Abrahams sons....Ishmael.   In Daniel 11 we read a much ignored piece of scripture that relates that the coming anti-christ, or world leader, will "enter peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province, and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers' fathers..."  The phrase "fattest places" is one considered to be a reference to certain areas of Israel that were reserved only for royalty, or the highest of religious leaders, yet what we have here is a false leader being able to go into them....and he does it, apparently, by invitation.  It seems almost inconceivable that the Jews would ever "do business" with an avowed enemy, as the Islamists claim to be, but this might be the "loophole" by which this mahdi will be able to work.  Read this article about Jewish eschatology to get more background.

Of course, the big question is: what difference does all this make to us who believe in Jesus Christ?  The answer is found in the words of Jesus when He said "Watch..." (Mat. 14:25, 24:43, 25:13; Mark  13:35; 1 Thess. 5:6; 1 Pet. 4:7).  In Matthew, Jesus also commented to the Pharisees that they were capable of telling what the weather would be like because of the signs in the sky, but they couldn't discern the signs of the times.

It behooves us as Christians to take every word of God to heart, and pay close and careful attention...and that means getting our noses out of our own "stuff" and observing (and learning) about what else is going on, because that is just ONE of the ways in which we can "discern the times."

18  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re:TBN in luxury problems : exit Hal L. on: January 04, 2006, 06:11:42 PM
I agree with you guys on putting and keeping Christ first.   I am fairly certain that this decision comes down from a "board of directors" or some such, who made a corporate decision based on some demographics of new towers, that have been reaching muslim audiences.   Like airIam says, (in a round about way  Wink ), if we were worried about offending sinners, we would have drop all Christian programming.   On the flip side, I am thankful that TBN has reached millions of people through the airways with the Gospel.   Theres no telling how many souls have been saved hearing any number of broadcasts on there.

It is becoming quite clear that Islam is going to have an enormous role in the end times.   If you look at all the nations spoken of in Ezekiel 38 and 39, basically all of them are Islamic nations.

When Christian broadcasting compromises truth for the sake of its audience, something is not as it should be.   I don't want to be judgmental, but lets just call it grave concern.   I will be praying for the leadership of TBN.
I agree with you 2Tim, they definately need prayer. From my perspective, the only thing any of us can do right now is pray and trust that God, Who is faithful to His Word will even make the rocks speak if that becomes necessary, I just am so flabergasted that a Christian Broadcasting Network, lets itself get talked into doing the opposite of what it is supposed to do. I foresee a lot of this happening and who knows even here in the US Christians will have to go underground to get the Word out.
I am praying that God will intervene and that those that still haven't heard the Word will have the opportunity to do so. It makes me wonder how many will give in to opposition thank God for the rapture, because things will only get worse. It is so very hard for me to even begin to comprehend that a Christian station that has been preaching the gospel for over 30 years, will let itself become intimidated by political correctness. It behooves me.

Please don't "lighten" the problem by laying it off to a "corporate" decision, or a "board of directors" thing.  Paul Crouch is Pres......period, end of the line.  Jan is Sr. VP....period, end of the line. Paul is Chief Exec. Ofc., and runs the biz day to day, makes the decisions, and implements them....period, end of the line.

From the very beginning of TBN, the emphasis in programming and personalities has been in the Dominion/Reconstruction/Restoration areas, heavily flavored with "experiential" worship.  The people with the biggest followings and shows are those that are basically people pleasing and entertaining.....long on rhetoric and short on substance.  Why else would Avanzini, Hinn, Clements, Parsley et al be the prime players?

Jude wrote specifically about these people....quite frankly, I'm surprised that he didn't name them.

Jud 1:8   Likewise also these [filthy] dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

How many times have you seen them strut around, yelling at  the devil and demons, and "putting them under our feet," and proclaiming that WE have the authority to do whatever we want with them.

Jud 1:9   Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

Jud 1:11   Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
Jud 1:12   These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds [they are] without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;
Jud 1:13   Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.
Jud 1:14   And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
Jud 1:15   To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard [speeches] which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
Jud 1:16   These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling [words], having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.

Back many years ago, I did some preaching on one of their first stations, out of New Mexico.  Even then, the corporate thrust and direction was to entertain, not teach.  After being told several times to not "be such a bible thumper", my wife and I dusted our feet.

I seriously doubt that there are as many who have come to Christ thru TBN as have turned away, turned off by the shenanigans, hype and hoopla......truly they are a 3-ring circus.

Hello Twobombs,

I do remember some news and expose type material being posted on people like Benny Hinn. I don't remember specifics on others, but I do remember information about how offerings were being used by some for outrageous luxury and not the Lord's work. I don't remember Hal Lindsey fitting into this category. The biggest posting was about Benny Hinn. He probably represents the worst in the waste of offerings, and some of his teaching is completely FALSE. Agree or disagree with Benny Hinn, I don't think that people should be sending him offerings so he can stay in $10,000 a night hotel rooms. If TBN needs to cut someone, I would think that Benny Hinn should be the first to go.

Love In Christ,
Tom

2Ti 4:3   For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
(4)   And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Notwithstanding Hal's kind comments about TBN, I believe that the real truth is starting to be made apparent.   While I also don't agree completely with some of Hal's prognostications, he at least continues to point out an essential truth.....Jesus is coming, and He's not gonna be too long about it!!!!

Arpel:

Approx. 373 AD, there was published a book (one of several by the author), of which 4 copies currently exist.  The title of the books is:

On the Last Times, the Antichrist and the End of the World

and is attributed to Ephraem the Syriac, who was bishop of the Syrian church at the time.  He was well-published, and this is just one of his many sermons.

Of the four copies extant, 3 are directly attributed to Ephraem, and one is attributed to another person, thus causing all four copies to be generally attributed to "pseudo-Ephraem," and casting doubt on its veracity or authorship.  It is interesting, however, that none of the copies vary in content, nor is there any real evidence for the claim that someone else authored the manuscript.

However, within the text of the sermon is the following statement:

"For all the saints and elect of God are gathered, prior to the tribulation that is to come, and are taken to the Lord lest they see the confusion that is to overwhelm the world because of our sins."

This seems to be a relatively clear statement of a pre-tribulation rapture.

Reliance upon any of the early "church leaders" after about 390 AD for doctrinal guidance is "iffy" at best, considering that the move within the church at that point in time was toward "replacement" theology, led by Augustine.  Replacement theology posits that the church has completely and absolutely replaced Israel, and that there will be NO millennial kingdom.  The only thing left is the final judgment.

In conjunction with statements by Paul and Jesus, it would appear to me that there most assuredly is;
1. A Millennial kingdom on this earth
2. A rapture of the church
3. And this rapture occurs PRIOR to the pouring out of the wrath of God (21 judgments), which is considered to be the tribulation period.
4. This rapture will occur shortly AFTER the man of sin is revealed (how long is anybodies guess), and his revelation to the world will *most likely* be by his execution of a treaty with Israel saving them from annihilation.

There are plenty of websites giving their opinions concerning the Ephraem statement, but as of yet, no one has conclusively proved that Ephraem DID NOT make the statement, or deliver the sermon, or have it published in manuscript form.
21  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re:False Prophet Maitreya on: August 11, 2005, 02:50:51 PM

I'm not a real fan of Hinn myself, but this much I DO know: He can't preach what he does except by the Holy Ghost. For no man can say Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Ghost.

1Co 12:3  Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

ZakDar:

ANY man can say Jesus is Lord (and not mean it), while ONLY THOSE speaking by the Holy Spirit can say Jesus is Lord, AND MEAN IT!

John, Peter, James, Jude and Paul all had much to  say about wolves wearing sheep's clothing, but the most telling was where Jesus Himself said:

"and MANY will say to me Lord, Lord, haven't we done [many things] in YOUR name, and I will say 'depart from me, you accursed....I NEVER KNEW YOU!

Joseph Smith said Jesus is Lord.
Adolf Hitler said the same.

Any person's use of His name, or saying "Jesus is Lord" does not make their heartfelt meaning actual and real...but the fruit will tell the tale.
22  Theology / General Theology / Re:What Must We Do To Be Saved? on: July 21, 2005, 08:18:45 PM
There was a sermon on the radio that left me with a question.  The message was about God's Sovereignty (agree) and that He predestined us for salvation (agree) and that our accepting Him has nothing to do with our salvation (?)  So, if that is the case, then what is the motivation for a non-believer who is all bound up into sin to believe?

I agree that belief is a result of the Holy Spirit, and I agree that this encourages me to pray more for the lost, but if a non-believer asked you why, since their confession of faith has no bearing on the free gift of salvation that God predestined to give some but not others, why then should they give their life to Jesus, what would you say?

Put in otherwords, if salvation is a free gift from God, one in which not even our confession is needed to receive salvation, then what motivates a person to confess, read the Bible, battle the devil's wiles, etc?  If my skeptical young adult family member asks me that question, I want to be ready with an answer.

Regardless the answer, I am going to pray even more fervently for him because it would appear that only the Holy Spirit REALLY brings one to REAL repentance!  (By the way, this sweet young man is married to my daughter, so I'm going to pray for her too!)

Thanks for setting me strait on the word of God!

Your reference is to R. C. Sproul, founder of Ligonier Ministries.

He is a "pop" psychologist theologian, and well into mind games ala Robert Schuller and others.  His basic theology is firmly rooted in 5 pt. Calvinism with a whole lot of divergences.

Since he believes that salvation is "predestined," choice doesn't enter into the matter, therefore we need to just go ahead with our lives, think positively, and become as good as possible in the "hope" that we were one of the ones selected.

Right on Pastor Roger. When Jesus lives in a body, He will guide us.  Even during "protest".  He told us what it takes to be saved.  Through trials and tribuations, in the long run, as long as we confirm Him as King, - WE WIN!

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but there has been, in the past month or so, a spate of "stuff" happening that is considered somewhat unusual.

Earthquakes.
Montana, Utah, ILLINOIS?, Kentucky, NEW YORK?, OKLAHOMA? plus an apparent increase in activity offshore California, portions of Alaska, and quite a few in Central and South America along a "chain" extending several thousand miles.

Animal behavior.
Two shark attacks, one fatal, in the past week off Florida.
Elephants turning on and trampling or tusking their trainers.
A hyena crept into multiple houses in Kenya and ate parts of 17 people.

Volcanos.
Several volcanos that have not been heard from during recorded history are rumbling into life, while several that were considered unimportant have suddenly become important with highly explosive eruptions.

And, of course, strange weather patterns (global warming, I'm sure  Roll Eyes  ), including the first EVER predictions for tornadic activity in Canada and England.

Things are cookin', folks.

I'm not so sure The Body of Christ is all that splintered.  I think that to a mind as shallow as mine it certainly seems splintered - but LOVE will prevail.

I'll agree with you....the Body of Christ is not splintered....but man's attempts at religion are.  It's really amazing (from some points of view) how two (or more) REAL Christians can get along, even in disagreement, simply because they recognize in each other the presence of the Holy Spirit....a witness, as it were.

There are plenty of people out there who claim Christ, or claim the name or title of Christian, when in fact they are selectively choosing what to believe, or what not to believe based on their own desires.

What do you feel about the Pre-Trib Rapture theory?
If there is a pre, will there be a during and post? So that all the saved might be with the Lord

ollie

No during, yes post....but all the saved will be with the Lord.  During, they become martyrs, and their souls are found waiting under the throne of God until the end of the trib and Jesus comes to earth with "10 thousand thousand of His saints..." to rule during the Millennium.

Where in the Bible does it state that..?

Which part?  Here's a start...............

Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and [I saw] the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received [his] mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Rev 6:9
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

Jud 1:14
And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, 15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard [speeches] which ungodly sinners have spoken against him

Rev 19:14
And the armies [which were] in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
