16  Theology / Debate / Re:True teachings vs. false teachings on: May 10, 2004, 10:56:05 AM
Gracey, do you know what Jesus means by not calling anyone on earth 'father'?

I'm pretty sure Gracey does know what he means.  But since it conflicts with your PERSONAL interpretation it must be wrong.  Please enlighten me oh wise Heidi   Roll Eyes

Nickolai,

I am Antiochian Eastern Orthodox.

Yay, I'm not the only one.  I'm OCA jurisdiction.

But his point is still relevant.  Christ never said to write his TEACHINGS down.

Jhn 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Jhn 1:1   In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Jhn 1:14   And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Quibble all you want, but wherever in history God spoke to man, it was Jesus speaking also...the Word.

Whenever God said "write it down", then He was giving instruction to record what He said

To maintain that the "point is still relevant....Christ never said..." is ridiculous in the extreme. Just like maintaining that there is no trinity since the specific word is not recorded in the Scripture.

I suppose that you will maintain that the letters to the 7 churches were not "teachings", but only letters, maybe instructions.....and of course, by your last post, certainly not "all" of His teachings.

What are you trying to do? Eliminate the gospels? Declare that they have no value? Or just eliminate the parts that might be in conflict with Orthodox "tradition"?

Get real.

Why would I try to eliminate the Gospels when the Orthodox Church created them?  and peiced together the Bible.  Do you think your interpretation of scripture is better than the Church who created it?  You are a fallible human the Church is the Body of Christ.  Don't dare put yourself on the same level of understanding as Christ.

And have you read your post?  Half of the verses talk about word.  Since when has word meant Written.  When I speak am I not speaking words?

And those letters were to help a Church in a specific area (Who already had understandings of the Gospels that we have today without having to read them *Hint Hint*).  Look at the letters was one ever written just because or did they have a purpose.  John's 3 for example.  They end with John telling the reader that he will come and teach them in person.  He would rather not do it in letter.

Gracey,

I'm Orthodox Catholic and we do not have a Rosary, though we do have a 'prayer chain'. I cannot assist you if you want specific answers to the 15 promises.

This has not ever been part of the original belief and practice of early Christians. Rome has added much more to it, and made it dogma as well.

Elsewhere I also gave an explanation of the veneration of Mary as we do other saints but Mary more so as she is the Theotokos, mother of God. If you need more, just let me know and I will help you.

Are you Actual Eastern Orthodox, or Are you under the Papacy.  Like a Byzantine Catholic or Uniate?
20  Theology / Debate / Re:Cults on: May 07, 2004, 05:57:51 PM
I'm getting a lot of flack from "professed" Christians for saying we should worship only one God and Jesus Christ whom He sent.

Are there invisible posts saying that?  Huh

Quote
Should I believe your words when you say you worship only Christ alone, or your actions when you pray to Mary and a myriad of other human beings,

Again, since when does Prayer = Worship?

Quote
call your leader your Holy Father which Jesus said is a title reserved for only ONE,

last time I looked God the Father was called Heavenly Father not Holy Father.

Quote
and believe the church doctrine is infallible?

I Christ a liar?

Quote
Why do you mock me for saying that we should worship Christ alone?

Noone has done that here.

Quote
Unbelievers are supposed to mock Christians for saying that. Whose beliefs more clearly agree with Christ's words, yours or mine? Please provide scripture from CHRIST to support your answer.

Well your word most closely resemle your interpretation of Christ's words.  As apposed to an entire Body of Believers.  Although I don't agree with Catholics on everything.  I have to say their interpretation makes a lot more sense.
21  Theology / Apologetics / Re:Check Out the New Band!!! on: May 06, 2004, 01:01:03 PM
King David danced around naked.
Not exactly the way I'd want to praise God, nor would I want to witness that, but it worked for him.

The reason why the old hymns will bring people comfort is because they are familiar to them.

I love groups like Audio Adrenaline, Newboys or- one of my all time favorites- Petra. I also love the hymns such as Majesty, Amazing Grace and my favorite song (hymn or otherwise) is How Great Thou Art.

Wow, Petra?  That's old school.
22  Theology / Apologetics / Re:The communion of the Lord's supper... on: May 06, 2004, 12:59:39 PM
Pertaining to communion, Jesus said; "Do this in remembrance of me." Pertaining to water baptism, Jesus said that we have to be baptized with water and the spirit to enter heaven. Those are the only 2 rituals he endorses and the only 2 I believe in.

I can't understand why a Christian wouldn't get baptized
However, stating that one must be baptized is baptismal regeneration and is based on works.
There is nothing you can do to earn your Salvation.

The Early Church Fathers taught that water baptism was neccecary for salvation.  St. John Crysostom talked about it quite a bit.

And Who is saying works are done to earn salvation.  Works are needed for salvation, But they don't earn the salvation.  Does Faith earn you salvation? No, well then works don't either.  But they are both needed according to St. James.

So Heidi, where to do you get this idea from that we don’t?

I think everyone has rebutted her theology so she's not gonna post.
24  Theology / Debate / Re:Cults on: May 06, 2004, 01:33:47 AM
Of course I do.
25  Theology / Debate / Re:Using Scripture Alone - Tell me where Jesus said to write His teachings down on: May 05, 2004, 03:45:05 PM
Yes, He did. Rev. 1:11 is Christ talking.

Yes, but He's not telling John to write all of his teachings.

If the written word is more important than the Church, then why did Christ establish a Church to "go and teach all nations?"  Where in the Bible did Jesus, or anyone, say to write down His teachings?

Exd 17:14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this [for] a memorial in a book, and rehearse [it] in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

Deu 17:18 And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of [that which is] before the priests the Levites:

Isa 30:8 Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever:

Jer 36:28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.

Eze 37:16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and [for] all the house of Israel his companions:

Eze 43:11 And if they be ashamed of all that they have done, shew them the form of the house, and the fashion thereof, and the goings out thereof, and the comings in thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the laws thereof: and write [it] in their sight, that they may keep the whole form thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and do them.

Hab 2:2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make [it] plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it

Phl 3:1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed [is] not grievous, but for you [it is] safe.

Jud 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort [you] that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints

Rev 1:11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send [it] unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

That was clever.

But his point is still relevant.  Christ never said to write his TEACHINGS down.
27  Theology / Bible Study / Re:What is your favorite book of the Bible and why? on: May 04, 2004, 04:54:24 PM
I love the Acts of the Apostles.  It's nice to see the similarities in the Early Church and the Church I belong to.

Yes, I attend a church that is definately a New Testament church.

But is it THE New Testament Church?

JustMe, Nickolai thinks the roman catholic religion is the one and only true church.

If I had to join a religion it would not be his (Nickolai )

I'm Not Roman Catholic.

I'm Eastern Orthodox.  There is a huge difference.

29  Theology / Apologetics / Re:I John 1:9 The Baptist Mass on: May 03, 2004, 10:27:23 PM
So you believe that Noone will go to Hell then?

Where did I say that?

To say that noone has to repent of they're sins implies that.
