46  Theology / General Theology / Re: How many Dispensation are there really ? on: November 26, 2008, 12:08:35 AM
I vote for 7, as 7 is the number of completeness and perfection, the number representing God. Man, represented as 6, is always one short!
47  Theology / General Theology / Re: Are Catholics Christian too? on: November 26, 2008, 12:05:51 AM
Hello Paul and welcome to Christians Unite forum.

The term you use, (religion) is a man made term. Just like denominations is another man made term, to show you are a member of religion. There are members of the church that really aren't members. The only question is, which do you follow?

My relationship with Christ is makes me a Christian. I follow NOT any religion, or denominations, but the Bible which is the Word of God.

Edited to add: Paul this forum is a Christian Forum, not a denomination forum.

Acts 26:5; Gal. 1:13,14; James 1:26.27. The Bible states Judaism is a religion - Jesus was Jewish - therefore Jesus was religious. While our relationship with Christ IS what matters and makes us Christians, the term 'religion" is not just a man-made term. I think people go overboard with this idea.
48  Prayer / General Discussion / Re: I drink Dr. Pepper dontcha know.... on: November 23, 2008, 01:34:06 PM
For all of you that love the Dr....

Saw this on Fox website

LOS ANGELES —  Dr Pepper is making good on its promise of free soda now that the release of Guns N' Roses' "Chinese Democracy" is a reality.

The soft-drink maker said in March that it would give a free soda to everyone in America if the album dropped in 2008. "Chinese Democracy," infamously delayed since recording began in 1994, goes on sale Sunday.

"We never thought this day would come," Tony Jacobs, Dr Pepper's vice president of marketing, said in a statement. "But now that it's here, all we can say is: The Dr Pepper's on us."

Beginning Sunday at 12:01 a.m., coupons for a free 20-ounce soda will be available for 24 hours on Dr Pepper's Web site. They'll be honored until Feb. 28.

Dr Pepper is owned by Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc.

Petition to see the birth certificate
Online effort launched to answer presidential eligibility question

WND today announces the launching of an online petition designed to enlist the public's help in demanding evidence of Barack Obama's constitutional eligibility for the office of the presidency.

I personally doubt there is anything in this and it is a waste of time and effort. Most of the doubt arises from his grandmother's claim that he was born in Kenya, and that two different hospitals in Hawaii are sometimes claimed as his birthplace. However, his birth certificate appears genuine as far as can be determined from a scan and the local paper appears to have published a birth announcement at the time.

However, he could put the whole thing to rest by showing a copy to the Supreme Court.

This problem has never come up before, (except involving Herbert Hoover, I hear). Congress should really act before the next presidential election to define exactly what is a natural born US citizen and to set up a procedure for all candidates for President to verify their elgibility. As it is now, there is much doubt over what it means, and no way for it to be verified except by filing lawsuits.

If this is really an issue for someone, and they have the time and money,  if his mother lived in Hawaii at the time of his birth, there would be records of it - rentals, employment, etc. She would have known people and had friends and enemies. She would have done business with people. A good detective ought to be able to find out a lot without having an official copy of the birth certificate.

She says state law bars release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest.

Anyone who has done genealogy knows this is universal practice, and in fact the law, for privacy reasons and to prevent identity theft.
50  Fellowship / Parenting / Re: Homeschoolers flee Nazi-era law for U.S. on: November 18, 2008, 11:26:57 AM
Unfortunately, I don't see our new administration being particularly favorable to home schooling here, though I doubt it will get as bad as Germany, largely because education is largely a State responsibility here. Also, we have a lot of people home schooling here who are non-Christians, and are fleeing the bad education in most public schools.

An interesting article on what Obama is going to face as he takes over the Presidency.

Perhaps the scientists just missed the point - it isn't the warm drink but the warm hospitality that makes the difference. The Bible tells us to be hospitable!

Earlier in the day in Dayton, Ohio, Obama took aim at McCain’s plan to have the government absorb the full cost of renegotiating mortgages for borrowers under strain from the dramatic decline of the values of their homes.

This is a bad idea anyway. Will it be used to bail out speculators who bought second homes or houses to "flip"? People who mortgaged their homes to buy TV's and cars? Why should I as a taxpayer bail them out?
If enacted, it should be restricted to first time home buyers who are in danger of foreclosure. However, I don't trust the government to do this so let's forget the idea.
54  Fellowship / For Men Only / Re: Deacons on: September 10, 2008, 11:57:34 AM
I am a deacon. In our church the deacons are mainly involved in ministry to people in the church. I help keep an handicapped lady's lawn up, fix cars when needed, visit people occasionally (difficult as I work nights), etc.

I am not involved with finances although my name is on the accounts - that is taken care of by the treasurer and financial secretary and is audited yearly by someone outside the church. One of the deaconesses has the checkbook for a small account  that we use in helping ministries.

As webmaster, I do post our annual report on the website so the information on how we use money is available to all.

We have elders who supervise the spiritual aspects of church ministry and work with the pastor.
55  Entertainment / Computer Hardware and Software / Re: Software suggestions for faster future computing. on: September 06, 2008, 12:32:21 AM

1. Speech recognition (speech to text and commands) Vista (even HB which i have) provides this but it is very very basic. If you don't have MSOffice i have found it only writes text to WordPad, and at that it leaves a lot to be desired. As my fingers increasingly are getting stiffer i myself would like to see this much improved. Vista speech recognition will also launch some apps, but nothing as varied and quick as it should be. In fact, i think the PC should be able to boot via voice command, which could allow extensive password restrictions. And rather than having to say Start and the name of a program, etc., we should be able to set up any program we want to launch by voice command, as in “execute Firefox” (FF), or "Launch group 1 (see # 7).

I read an interesting article on this online just recently, but I can't remember where. The essence of it was that one company has bought up almost all the rights to speech recognition, but they are only interested in promoting it to businesses ( like your phone company), not to individual computer users.

2. Remote telemetry and execution. PC makers could work with appliance and car makers to allow cheap transmitting of helpful data to your PC, from such things as cost per kw electrical consumption to blood pressure. And laptops could have a program that allows (via plug in)  basic analysis of engine performance. Etc.  More devices could also be cheaply made to be receive commands from a PC (turn lights on, off etc.).

For your car, try http://www.auterraweb.com/. I have the Palm version and it works well, but they also have a PC version. Some medical equipment can be connected to a PC, but the programs are usually expensive and restricted to the doctor's office.

3. HotKeys: A built in hot key utility would  launch things quickly, hibernate, shut down the PC. etc. (I use the discontinued Copernic utility Winkey, and set it up so that the Windows key and F keys launch Internet apps, while Windows, shift and a appropriate key does other apps, while ctrl and a appropriate key does folders).  Under Vista, the Windows key and number keys will launch shortcuts in the quick launch bar, but to my knowledge even these hotkeys are not configurable.

Never got into this one - can't help you there.

4. Sys. Res. And activity. A single system tray utility that can show HD and CPU temps and activity, as well as specific Internet traffic activity would be helpful. We should always be able to know what is coming on or going out of our computer. Treat surfing like driving. And the clock should be more lie TClock.

Likely exists but you might have to search for it.

56  Theology / Debate / Re: Stamism? on: August 23, 2008, 12:23:29 PM
Please explain why you think left behind is a work of fiction.

While I disagree with Doug, obviously "Left Behind" is a work of fiction. It is the author's idea of what may happen in the last days, based on the Bible, but it hasn't happened yet and the characters and events are made up (fiction). It may not happen in that way, either.
It is certainly not inspired Scripture, and is just one man's idea of what could happen. It is certainly not sold as "non-fiction".
57  Theology / Debate / Re: America on: August 05, 2008, 09:12:16 PM
America is declining fast and will likely have become irrelevant.
58  Entertainment / Computer Hardware and Software / Re: Anyone Using Firefox 3 Yet? on: July 09, 2008, 09:48:33 PM
I upgraded to it on my Vista laptop and it worked fine, but some of my extensions and my antivirus weren't compatible so I held off installing it on my XP desktop and kept Firefox 2 on that. However, everything I use has now been upgraded so it works on version 3 so I will probably upgrade my desktop soon. Just haven't gotten around to it.

I don't see a whole lot of difference on speed, but my connection is so slow anyway it wouldn't matter. I can go get a cup of coffee while a page loads whatever browser I use!!!  To be honest, the way I use Firefox I don't see much difference between the two versions.

Don't worry too much - with the continual erosion of our standard of living you soon won't be able to afford much of anything.

"After three years of clandestine development, a Georgia company is now going public with a simple, natural way to convert anything that grows out of the Earth into oil."

These folks claim to have adapted the bacteria cows use to digest food (and produce methane) to be able to produce hydrocarbons.
