4726  Theology / Apologetics / Christian Warlord?? on: July 31, 2003, 07:13:40 AM
Note the fifth paragraph (in bold)..... Is this a typo? A direct zap against Christianity?  Undecided Any thoughts?

Sierra Leone Warlord Dies in Custody of War Crimes Court
Wed Jul 30, 2:55 PM ET
By SOMINI SENGUPTA The New York Times

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast, July 30 Foday Sankoh, the warlord from Sierra Leone who made mutilations his signature weapon of war and came to symbolize the face of deranged cruelty, died Tuesday night in the custody of a United Nations-backed war crimes tribunal, officials of the court announced today.

Mr. Sankoh, who had been charged with crimes against humanity in connection with the civil war that plunged his country into more than a decade of terror, was 66. The court said he died of natural causes in a hospital in the Sierra Leonean capital, Freetown, where he had been receiving treatment for what the deputy prosecutor called "a variety of complaints."

"He has been granted the peaceful end that he denied to so many others," Desmond de Silva, the deputy prosecutor of the Special Court for Sierra Leone, said in a statement.

Mr. Sankoh, an itinerant photographer and army corporal with a primary school education, rose to become the leader of a guerrilla group called the Revolutionary United Front. In 1991, he started a terrifying civil war.

A born-again Christian with near-messianic power over his rank-and-file, a great many of whom were poor boys from the countryside, Mr. Sankoh spread terror across the small West African nation by chopping off the hands, arms and legs of ordinary civilians.

Well if you can't figure something so simple out.......

1Co 6:18
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

So this verse says that tattoos are a sin? Or are you confused as to what 'fornication' means?

Quote
Then again you still think that women can be pastors so whatever.

Ummm.... I'm guessing that you've made a slight error and confused me with 'suzie'??!!  I have never thought that woman can be pastors since the Bible says otherwise.....

And the question is:
Quote
So if someone is a Christian and they get a tattoo then they are no longer a Christian?

4728  Theology / General Theology / Re:Buddhism on: July 26, 2003, 08:46:03 PM
Wow - that was an awfully snide reply  Undecided

I believe the question I asked was:
Quote
So if someone is a Christian and they get a tattoo then they are no longer a Christian?

In reference to the verse you posted:
Le 19:28
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

Does that pertain to the marking of the body for the dead?

Quote
It's not ok take a look at all the heathen peoples and what they look like.

What do 'heathen peoples' look like?  Huh

What do the other verses have to do with tattoos?  Huh

Quote
I suppose I should start spray painting and tagging the church walls.  After all it's just an art form.

That would be breaking the law..... But you may want to check out a church that DOES have graffitti  Wink :
http://www.graffitichurch.org/building.html

And in many cities they have painting on walls that are called murals...  'Wyland' is a famous artist who was paid to paint on buildings all over the world.... So I guess it really is an art form!  Wink
Quote
Are you one of the one billion people per year that see Wyland's Whaling Wall murals throughout the US, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Europe? These paintings have made people all over the world aware of the struggle of whales, dolphins and all ocean life.

This is even more spectacular in real life!

But, of course, none of that has a thing to do with tattoos~

I know plenty of people that think you can be Christian and get tatoos and body peircings.  This too is false and many itching ears want to be scratched.

Ummmm..... this really confuses me! So if someone is a Christian and they get a tattoo then they are no longer a Christian?  Huh And no, I'm not trying to justify a tattoo... I don't have any and I don't like them - but I believe that's my own opinion and not God's Word....

Very kwever, sincerehawt.  Yet another Bulletin Board.  That's pretty good.

LOL! But it really what the abbreviation is for! I didn't make up!  Cool

On the other hand, I was getting those B.C., anyway.  I guess I just have this "God" complex, and now it's following me, like a curse, everywhere I go--like the Midas touch--everything he touched turned to pure gold, so the poor chap dies of thirst and starvation.

ROFL and Gagging! So if the Midas touch turns things to gold, what does the "YaBB God" touch turn things to?  Tongue *waits for lightning to strike  Lips Sealed*

Actually, other boards have that, too.... I never was comfortable with it.

(I don't see anyone bowing a scraping yet--"We're not worthy!  We're not worthy!")

Is that 'scraping' or 'scrapping'??  Tongue I felt a little tug at the knees that made me think a bow was coming on, but I just let it pass... Roll Eyes I think I have it under control now Cool

Would someone enlighten me on the meaning of "yaBB"?

That would be "Yet another Bulletin Board" which is the mothership of this forum Grin

They need to regenerate themselves at regular intervals otherwise they die

Pure Oxygen is fatal to them
They have no emotions

Aliens? Some of these sound like some people I know... Roll Eyes

Uh, Symphony....
