10  Theology / General Theology / KJV--Where Do YOU Stand ?? on: March 08, 2004, 01:18:42 PM
Grin  There are NINE Categories of Believers who take a stand on what they think of the KJV!    --- WHICH do YOU fall under??                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   *** Category 1) This Believer holds by faith that the King James Translators were inspired when they made their translation. As such, he holds that the KJV is THE inerrant, inspired Word of God. *** Category 2) This Believer holds by faith that the King James Version is the special product of God, such that it can be said to be exactly what God wants the English-speaking people to have without linguistic or textual studies. The KJV is considered to be THE inspired, inerrant Word of God because of what it says about itself. *** Category 3) This Believer holds by faith that the King James Version is THE Word of God. After considering linguistic, historical, and textual matters this person decides that they are not essential to establishing the Bible, but are almost completely unimportant or are a hindrance to Bible Study. He determines that the KJV is "inspired" & "inerrant" in a practical sense. *** Category 4) This Believer holds by faith the King James Version is the Word of God because of what it says about itself, with the confirmation of linguistic, historical, and textual studies. He may or may not call the KJV "inspired" or "inerrant" depending on whether he is speaking practically or technically. He believes that the current KJV is the result of a correct manuscript (or manuscripts), competent translators, and the general superintendence and blessing of God. *** Category 5) This Believer holds by faith that the King James Version communicates the Word of God because of what it says about itself with the confirmation of linguistic, historical, and textual studies. This person practically calls the KJV the "Word of God" but would NEVER  call it inspired or inerrant because he is convinced that these words should refer only to the process by why God gave His Word originally. *** Category 6) This Believer holds by faith that the King James Version is the Word of God because of what it says about itself, in its linguistical, historical, and textual studies. He is convinced that adjustments need to be made in the Hebrew & Greek texts as well as the English translation. He favours the KJV because it has been the generally faithful standard for many years. *** Category 7) This believer holds that the King James Version can be generally called the Word of God because it is a reasonably faithful translation. This person is convinced that the KJV is based on inferior manuscripts, and that some modern translations are superior to it. *** Category 8 ) This believer holds by faith that the King James Version can only practically be called the Word of God. Through Biblical and textual studies, he is convinced that the whole Byzantine family of manuscripts are generally unworthy to compete with other texual readings. He is willing to use the KJV because it is still so well known, but holds that it IS inferior to many of the newer versions & translations. *** Category 9) This Believer holds by faith that the King James Version is now obsolete. He may or may not have knowledge and confidence in textual criticism. His conclusion is that the KJV obscures the truth and should be replaced by something clearer and more contemporary.   Smiley                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Which Bible do YOU think is the best expression of the Word of God? A Literal word for word translation? Paraphrase? Dynamic Equivelence?   < WHY??>

12  Theology / General Theology / RIGHTLY DIVIDING The Word of TRUTH! on: March 04, 2004, 02:41:59 PM
Grin Please give your Questions & Comments in the "Right Division" Questions & Comments POST. The KEY to Bible Study is found in 2ndTim.2:15 = "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth". This verse is a command. "Study"="Be diligent", Gr: spoudason, vb.command. The Bible is THE Word of God,and unless the word is rightly divided, we shall not get the "whole" truth, but truth only in proportion to the measure in which we divide it rightly. The SCOPE of 2ndTim.2:15 teaches that: (1) Our one great endeaver is to seek God's approval, and not man's. (2) We are to show diligence in pursuing this study of Rightly Dividing His Word. (3) As workmen, our aim is to have no cause to be ashamed of our working through study. (4) In order to gain God's approval and avoid any shame, we must be accurate in When, Where, and How we divide.....As to its Subject Matter, [II]As to its Times(Ages) and Dispensations, [III]As to its Dispensational Truth and Teaching. Smiley  # :  While the Word of God is written FOR all persons, and FOR all time, yet it is as true that not every part of it is addressed TO all persons or ABOUT all persons IN all time. Every word is written FOR our learning (Rom.15:4; cf. 1stCor.10:11), and contains all we ought to know; yet, its subject-matter is written according to the dividing principle in 1stCor.10:32, concerning one or the other of 3 distinct classes of persons: The Jews, The Gentiles, & The Church-Body. What is written TO and ABOUT the Jew, belongs TO and must be interpreted OF the Jew. What is written OF and ABOUT the Gentile, belongs TO and must be interpreted OF the Gentile. What is written TO and ABOUT the Church-Body, belongs TO and must be interpreted OF the Church-Body. E.g. - The Visions that were shown to the Prophet Isaiah were "concering Judah and Jerusalem" (Isa.1:1). The Book of Isaiah was written FOR our learning, but was not addressed TO us, nor written concering us, but to/for/about Judah & Jerusalem. It would be dishonest to appropriate that which was spoken to Israel, by interpreting it to ourselves. Every part of the Bible is written concerning one or the other of the 3 groups or classes of people. Sometimes in the same book or passage there is something that is concerning more than one group; sometimes a whole whole book may be concerning only one of the three groups, and the other two are altogether excluded. We may learn much from what is written wherever, for the Inspired, God-breathed Word is "profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (2ndTim.3:16). The Interpretation always belongs TO the class addressed in each book. (Cp. Jas.1:1 & Eph.1:1). Application can be made so long as it does not conflict with what is written elsewhere concerning the church-body. Otherwise, we shall find ourselves applying one truth contrary to another truth. Application cannot be made until the Interpretation is obtained first. The Interpretation is the foundation on which the Application is built. There can be no building till the foundation is laid. MORE TO COME!
13  Theology / General Theology / Re:Salvation is for eternity on: March 04, 2004, 11:51:09 AM
GrinPlease notice in Paul's Epistles the phrase "faith of Christ"! In the KJV, every place Paul mentions it,  it ALWAYS refers to His Faithfulness. ALL English Bible Translations from 1850 onward take  "faith OF Christ"[His Faithfulness] and make an unfounded & interpretive change in the text so that we see "faith IN Christ"[our faith in Him] in its place. There is no word for "in"(Gr. en) in these passages! The "of" in "faith of Christ" means that which belongs to him. I say all that to say this : It is His Faithfulness of what He did at Calvary that gives me security. 1970+yrs ago, when He died, He took on the whole worlds Sin problem to himself (from Adam to the last person to ever be born)! Not one of us are left out of that equasion--includes men for all time. As we (thru Paul's teaching of the Cross of Christ), look back on His sacrifice for us, we see we WERE Forgiven of ALL our sins[yes--even those we haven't done yet!!], Sanctified, Justified(declared righteous), etc.  Smiley The moment we believed that He died & was buried & was raised from the dead (1 Cor.15:1-4) for us as ungodly sinners (Rom.5:6,8), we entered into the Kingdom of [God's] dear Son (Col.1:13). Our Security can only be found in Paul's Epistles. It is Unconditional!! ALL references outside of Paul's Letters are refering to Israel's Conditional Security---If they DO what God told them, then they HAVE security. John speaks of the Promise of Security (e.g. JN.10:27-29), MATT.-LK. speak of the Duty to obey (e.g. LK.9:62). *** I am considering doing a verse by verse study on this Topic ( at a later date ). Wink

15  Welcome / About You! / Re:Hi on: March 02, 2004, 08:03:11 PM
GrinWELCOME CHOME. I 3rd the thots expressed! There is Treasures to be found in God's Word (Psalm 119:162), but believing what His word says about His Son is vital (1st Cor.15:1-4), to not believe is vain! If you would, please read the book of ROMANS as much as you are able every day, slowly, carefully, let it sink in....take notes, ask questions, REread it!
