1  Prayer / General Discussion / Re:Sadam on: February 03, 2004, 02:23:58 PM
that's not a fair comparison. human life is worth more than animal life.

when i questioned the whole hardened hearts thing... my answer was the foothold verse. you want to kill sadam because you are outraged over the things he has done. and you shoud make decisions dispassionately.

Who are you going to listen to? Paul,  or Jesus?  Cry
3  Prayer / General Discussion / Re:Sadam on: February 01, 2004, 10:27:48 AM
What about hardened hearts? All justice will be done at judgement and none will complain about how they were wronged.

The Bible explicitly warns us about anger, about it's foothold to the devil. We should not make decisions, especially regarding someone else's life, in it.
4  Prayer / General Discussion / Re:animals having souls? on: January 31, 2004, 10:12:33 AM
I see no reason why not.

Look at it this way: Eden was Heaven on Earth.

Were not animals part of Paradise?
5  Prayer / General Discussion / Re:spiritual growth & prayer on: January 31, 2004, 10:10:34 AM
I think the first and most important step in spiritual maturity is letting go spirtually "childish" things and stepping out into the man or woman of God we were meant to be. You must never become satisfied with the person you are. You must always strive to give more and more and more to God. NEVER become satisfied with a mediocre relationship with God (the story of Jacob and Esau and even further the story of Jabez).

My Pastor says that there are 3 important elements to spiritual nourishment: prayer, scripture reading, and Christian friends. I've found personally that quiet times get me the farthest, when I meet with God just like Jesus did. If He spent hours in prayer every day, how much more do WE need to pray?

Blessings,
Jenn
6  Prayer / General Discussion / Re:Sadam on: January 31, 2004, 10:00:44 AM
I'm saying that I don't believe it is our place to do anything to Sadam. I think that Paul would agree with us here. I mean, come on, Paul was a murderer. So was, who was it? Abraham or Moses? There are so many great Biblical leaders that killed. If we killed them as in "eye for an eye", things wouldn't have turned out the way they did. Yes, I am saying that Sadam made mistakes, a lot of them, and really big ones, but I am no better than Sadam and I deserve Hell just as much as he does. ANYONE can be used by God. And it's not our place to destroy that possibility. Besides, how can you reach someone you're going to kill? I say confine him, lock him up, but for God's sake, that's not our place to kill him! Our very Lord and Savior told us not to react with violence to violence. So what are you promoting by supporting the death penalty? The very opposite of our Lord and God. In these rare instances where Paul and Jesus contradict eachother, do as Paul would have wanted (see the "some say "i follow paul" and others still "I follow Apollos!" verse) and follow Christ.

Just because there will be consequences, doesn't mean they're should be.

Meh.. Jesus is the judge of the world. He knows our hearts and intentions and understands that we make mistakes- really big ones sometimes.

12  Prayer / General Discussion / Re:Type of Music on: January 28, 2004, 05:03:10 PM
As long as it's clean I don't see a problem. Like, most rap songs are degrading towards women. That kind of thing you should avoid. Cursing- meh, if you're against it, don't listen to it. The kind of music you listen to can and does reflect the kind of person you are. It's the "what goes in comes out" theory here.
13  Prayer / General Discussion / Re:B.I.B.L.E. on: January 28, 2004, 04:59:44 PM
Someone's probably already said this because I've only read the first page but I figuire it needs to be said.

Paul says we have no excuse not to know God. People are born with moral standards. Since the beginning of time, most people have recognized the existance of a higher power.

It's sucking up our pride (or carrying our cross if you will) and following Jesus that gets us saved.

But can we lose our salvation?

I believe we can. The book of James indicates that Faith is not truely Faith without manifesting itself with Fruit (good works). And we are saved by Faith.

In reference to the Salvation being a gift verse.. the fact that we can even GET Salvation is the gift. HOWEVER, it is a gift we must RECEIVE. If you don't take it, it's your fault.

So.. us giving ourselves to God is our own doing. We directly affect where we spend Eternity.

I don't believe once saved always saved. People lose their faith. It's sad, but it happens.
14  Prayer / General Discussion / Re:Sadam on: January 28, 2004, 03:17:44 PM
What would I ask him?

May I pray with you?

As for his punishment, I don't think it's our place to try him.  I think the Iraqi's who have been terrorized by him all these years should have that singular pleasure.  If I were on the jury, I'd want to see him hang.  An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, is what the Bible says, right?  Personally, I support the death penalty for capital crimes, then again, I'm from Texas where we not only have the death penalty, we use it; there's even an express lane for especially heinous crimes (killing a child under age 6, killing more than 1 person, killing a law officer, etc...)

Hehe, that's a good one.

Just remember that Jesus addressed that verse. That's all I had to say.
15  Fellowship / Just For Women / Submitting to Husbands on: January 28, 2004, 03:13:54 PM
I'd be willing to bet that there was a topic on this before but I'm too lazy to run a search. So here it goes.

I've got a while to go before I get married. I've got a while to go before I'm even legally ABLE to get married. However..

The submitting to husbands thing really gets to me. And I've had it explained to me 100 times over. I've come to the conclusion that in this case giving me like facts isn't going to help. It's an emotional thing. The idea doesn't sit well with me. I'm not sure why; I mean, I get it completely. It just seems so sexist no matter how ANYONE explains it.

So, um, I guess I'm reaching out to someone to help me understand this- not in my head, but in my heart. God's ways and thoughts are higher than mine, and redemption is bigger than these doubts of mine.

Please don't get frustrated with me if I don't accept it right away. Believe me, I want to. Sometimes I just feel like women are 2nd class in God's eyes *AND I KNOW THIS ISN'T BIBLICAL I.E. GAL 3:28* but I feel like it. I look back in the O.T. and read all this stuff about multiple wives and concubines, and how God didn't do anything about it.. it just hurts me to see my Lord and Savior seeminly promoting a chauvinistic society. My studying of the Fall has led me to knowing that it wasn't all Eve's fault. I just don't get it. Adam was right there. The fact that he didn't step up should have set off this big warning sign in God's head that maybe men aren't well suited for leadership. And I guess that argument isn't very fair. I mean, not every man is Adam. But then again, not every woman is Eve, and therefore.. not every woman would have done what Eve did.

I want to enter into the ministry. A lot of people get on my case about it and I'm sure some women here too will jump down my throat. But I do believe that it's a calling from God. I've just got a lotta stuff sort out and quiet a bit of time for me to work through it all. And this, I believe, is another obstical I'm going to have to overcome to reach for my dreams. This issue is hindering my relationship with God. I get angry with Him a lot about it. So please help.

Love and God Bless,
Jenn
