Entertainment / Poetry/Prose / A Child's Dream

'Twas when I, but a child Had ideas imaginative, wild, But always in my memory is A dream we built, somehow, His.
My childhood chum, Harry, and I Planned a stairway to the sky: For the steps purest gold, Shining, beautiful to behold...
Banisters all spotless white, That seemingly yet reflect a light. "Just think we can visit God everyday, That is, if He says we may."
I thank Thee, Father, for this young dream, Though vain it was, not so it seems, Since I have learned, 'tis Jesus Christ, Lord and Saviour Who holds the stairway- The Cross His labor.

...Help me, Oh Father, Grow to be A Christian, A Friend to humanity; Teach me to seek The truth from Him And drink from the cup With o'er flowing brim The Immortal Nectar He died to give To save our souls That we might eternally live.

My dear Father, Now that I pray Help it to be, in a heavenly way, Not for trivial things I plead, But for courage To teach those who need Thy loving words To lift their load As daily they trudge along life's road.
