16  Fellowship / You name it!! / Attacks on Firemen on: February 21, 2008, 05:24:58 PM
Here in Britain young people regularly attack firemen in different towns and citys.  Back in N. Ireland where I used to live firemen were attacked regularly in Belfast and Derry.  A little in some other towns but not much.  It is all so sad and disgusting.  I was reading in our local paper that firemen have been in schools explaing their work and safety.  Some of the pupils in these schools then were part of the gangs that regularly attack them.  Does this happen much in the U.S. and abroad I wonder.  Probably even more attacks in U.S. citys?
17  Theology / Debate / Re: Religious prisoners on: February 16, 2008, 04:46:24 PM
Quite right Jon Marc I forgot about the Phasrises.  We can of course be religious and not born-again Christians.
18  Theology / Debate / Religious prisoners on: February 16, 2008, 06:31:41 AM
I have been reading a very interesting letter in the, "Radio Times" of Feb 16-22 edition.  Giving figures of the number of prisoners in Britain with a declared religion was 43,970.  But those with no religion numbered 20,739.  Religious prisoners convicted of violence against the person numbered 11,153.  With no religion convicted were 5,614.  These are the Home Office statistics of 2006.  Figures for the U.S. are probably similar.  We need to bear in mind I suppose that a lot of these religious prisoners would be Islamic and other foreighn faiths.  Even though Britain is multi faith it would take in quite a few of the Christian faith.  Whether some are true Christians in prison is another matter.  Most of them would probably be.  I was really suprised and saddened obviously by these figures.  What are we to make of them?

19  Entertainment / Music / Music in supermarkets on: January 21, 2008, 09:54:56 AM
I work in a supemarket where we have continuous middle of the road type of songs played contiously even when closing time comes.  I mean even after 8 o'clock when it closes for customers but we work on.  I of course like some songs.  If I did'ent like some I would maybe go mad or have to leave.  An odd new song is added some days but very few.  More up to date songs or a local radio station would help.  Some days it is too loud.  I find because of this that when I am at home or driving in my car I never listen to any type of music except a very odd time.  I used to love music.  When I was young I listened a regular on the radio early morning and late at night to the latest pop.  I moved from station to station and it was fun.  Now with this supermarket music I might even have to leave and only because of the disgusting repetative music.  Also some songs have such stupid words, you wonder how on earth these singers got their song accepted?  And of course a lot of the time you cant make out the words or they use some obscure words that you havent a clue what these words mean.
20  Entertainment / Television / Millionaires on TV on: January 21, 2008, 09:34:36 AM

Recently on British T.V. there has been programmes where millionaires are giving away some of their money to the needy. First a prog. where a millionaire goes into a deprived area and picks out people who deserve some cash to help their needs. Secondly a prog. where a panel of millionaires headed by Lord Jeffrey Archer have all sorts of people coming on and putting their case for some cash. The cause can look really good but some causes are crasy and foolish. This is great T.V. and exciting.
21  Welcome / About You! / Re: I am back again folks on: January 09, 2008, 07:41:54 AM
Blackeyedpeas and others have been asking about how I spent Christmas.  I was invited by Church folk who are also neighbours.  The dinner was very tasty and well cooked.  The stuffing is always my favourite part.  Some lovely flavours of stuffing.  I would preferably like to back home in N. Ireland with my brother and his family etc.  Too cold for travelling at this time of the year.  I wait until spring when it gets warmer.  TV over Christmas like other other years could be improved.  I missed our Church Carol service as I had a cold.  Thank youm all for your warm greetings.
22  Fellowship / You name it!! / Children's TV and computer viewing on: January 09, 2008, 07:16:50 AM
Children and teenagers in to-days society tend to live in a home with 2 or maybe more TVs. They go to their room and watch on their TV whatever they want. It may be unsuitable viewing. Same goes with computers where they can go into I suppose almost any website they fancy. They should be watching the main TV in the living room where their parents then would have control over what they watch. Same with their computer, they need their parents checking what websites they key into. I used to be practically all familys sat around the dining table together. Now as we know this is getting so rare.

23  Fellowship / You name it!! / We need a new Lord Reith on: January 01, 2008, 12:36:57 PM
Some off you will remember the morally correct Lord Reith. The man of course had his faults but generally he kept good morals. I have just been to the Sermon Audio website. I just had to share with you this information before I listen to the sermon. Lord Reith was the Director General of the B.B.C.
On the wall of Broadcasting House (home of the BBC) there is a Latin inscription that was unveiled in the 1930’s. That inscription reads: “This temple of the Arts and Muses is dedicated to Almighty God by the first governors of broadcasting in the year 1931…… It is their prayer that good seed sown may bring forth a good harvest and that all things hostile to peace and purity may be banished from this house and that the people inclining their ear to whatsoever things are beautiful and honest and of good report, may tread the path of wisdom and uprightness.”
Now we have a lowering of standards with more and more bad language and sex etc. It is so hard to watch anything without at least some bad language. The excuse is that this is realism. We have it in the real world so why not on real television? If only we had someone of Lord Reith's standard now
24  Fellowship / You name it!! / Re: Happy New Year and Goodnight ya'll , luv TL! on: January 01, 2008, 09:08:07 AM

25  Fellowship / You name it!! / New year message on: January 01, 2008, 09:00:17 AM
A very happy and blessed new year to you all.  On this first day we turn our thoughts to resolutions.  I will be more determined to do what is right than ever before.  Many try to keep thi one.  It's may work for a while but slowly but surely we get back into our usual rut.  Some resolutions we will keep fairly well.  I have made many in the past.  Kept them for a while and then, well you can guess the rest.  Here is what Oscar Wilde said'

"Good resolutions are simply cheques that men draw on a bank where they have no account"

One resolution I am now determined to keep is to make as many regular postings as possible to this excellent forum.  I can and I will because this forum like most forums is so friendly.
26  Fellowship / You name it!! / Life is wonderfull on: December 31, 2007, 06:59:48 PM
Yes folks, it really is.  We need to count our blessings.  Despite my quite severe eczema I enjoy life so much.  Since coming here to the beautifull Lake District I dont get bored as much as back in N. Ireland.  I needed a change and I needed most of all a closer walk with my Lord and Saviour.  My church here, is Evangelical.  A modest ordinary sort of Evangelical if you know what I mean.  I love the house group.  It meets every 2 weeks or so.  I say that because it is not every 2 weeks.  I do a little Bible study when I can.  Mainly comes from what I am reading in the Bible from daily reading or maybe something interesting the pastor mentions.  Apart from that I love T.V. and record some programmes I miss while at work.  I also record some radio programmes for listening to in the car.  At work in a supermarket I have to listen to constant music.  This music gets boring at times but you get used to it.  Maybe if there wasent any I would be more bored.  much more I could tell you.  Main thing is to enjoy your interests and hobbies.  If you have any problem etc. just take it to the Lord in prayer.  That is what he wants.  Our dear Lord wants us to be happy and enjoy life.  Most of all of course he wants us to do more in life.  He has plans for us all.
27  Welcome / About You! / I am back again folks on: December 31, 2007, 06:38:36 PM
I havent visited this wonderfull forum folks, believe it or not for over 3 years.  What have I been doing.  I had been living in N. Ireland but moved to the Lake District in the winter of 2004.  My old computer was much to bulky for taking with me.  I got a new laptop a few months ago and only tonight found my password, would you believe.  Praise the Lord to get it and get back to you.  I love the beautifull Lake District and have been exploring in all directions.
28  Prayer / Prayer Requests / Eczema problems on: December 31, 2007, 06:27:18 PM
:(I have quite severe eczema that no matter what creams and ointment etc. I use doesent seem to help much.  My biggest problem at present is keeping my face clear of marks.  Part of my problem is habit, So used scratching that I scratch when I shouldent or maybe sometimes have no real need to.  i am thinking now about acupuncture.  This idea comes from reading a book on eczema.  Please pray that I will find a solution to my problems.
29  Fellowship / You name it!! / Re:Protestant faith and Catholic faith on: May 18, 2004, 06:51:29 PM
I mean Tibby that I need your help and members help in proving these statements either true or false.  Do you agree that the Protestant faith is close to the Catholic faith?
30  Fellowship / You name it!! / Re:How many times have you read the whole Bible? on: May 18, 2004, 12:58:29 PM
:)I agree with Dream Weaver about learning more every time we read this sacred book.  The chapters on War annoy me and sometimes I skip them.  I suffer from chronic eczema and get fed up with suffering and bad news.  There will be better times ahead of us if we are saved.  I have read the Bible about 7 times.  Everybody should read it the whole way through at least once.
