Nice points, BL. Tozer some good things to say about this, bringing out those essential nice themes from Ephesians and Colossians - I HAVE to go back and look at those, about the power, or "command" we have in Jesus Christ... but w/o the arrogance or ruthlessness of, say, the Crusaders, or other, current imposters on the faith of beauty we have in Jesus Christ... So many times we take this mandate we have in Christ Jesus and immediately abuse it...

Theology / Debate / Re:Athiests, etc who celebrate Christmas
|

Does this make sence to you? It doesn't to me, and it makes me mad. Christmas is supposed to be a holiday that celebrates Christ- so how do so many people who aren't even Christian celebrate it?! I had some friends who aren't Christian, and they asked me what I wanted for Christmas. One of them told me that Christmas was a national holiday, and nobody really celebrates it for religion anymore. Another one got reeeallly mad when I asked her why she celebrated it. Is the point of this hliday to these people getting stuff?! How lame! What do yout think? Doing exactly what you are doing - asking, and probing. It's easy for any memory to become diluted and adulterated with any number of variations. For this reason Christmas can still stand as an opportunity. To remind and share, no matter how insiginifcant, or subtle. Especially, the very title has our Savior's name in it! And it's a National Holiday!

Theology / Debate / Career vs. Faith?
|
on: December 25, 2004, 10:39:22 PM

A result of civilization, like insurance, is the prospect of "career". Doing the same thing over and over again, daily, weekly, annually, and advancing in rank and/or skill.
Is this at odds with walking "by faith". Since "career" implies planning(education), and deliberate moves in order to advance that career.
Isn't that at odds with a "faith in Jesus Christ"??

Ahlzeimers.
Mad Cow Disease.
Ahlzeimers patients can reek havoc on those who care for them. The mortality/morbidity rate is 80% for caregivers of Alhzeimers patients. I.e., the caregivers don't survive the patient.
If you lose your mind, can you still be a believer?

Theology / General Theology / News vs. Faith
|
on: December 25, 2004, 10:26:40 PM

Our world today is all about information. News. Constant, unstoppable, relentless news. I was just thinking about how contrary to our daily walk in faith, news actually seems to be. Of course, the "Gospel" is exactly that - news, although it definitely is GOOD news. But what the world has to offer is just news. Sometimes it is "good"; most of it, though, is either routine, or bad news. But more than that, this news of the world, is carnal, earthy, sensual - related to what we see, and hear. It has very little to speak to the soul, as the Good News does. My thinking then, is that so much of what comes in over the wires and waves, is contrary to our inner sense of "knowing" - or our "faith", in Jesus...

I buried my cat the other day. ( It was dead). I'm relieved it was dead. Yes, Bern, those are some interesting human contrasts between cats and dogs. Willow, I think cats love it when they are the only one.

Does anyone ever leave the safety of their church building? As a family, we've been church-hopping. No, not that kind! We came to the realization that our brothers and sisters in Christ aren't just within the walls of the building where we attend services. Nor are they to be found only within the denomination listed on the sign outside. So we decided to get out and start meeting some of those who will be in Heaven, too. It's been a wonderful experience! We go where Christ leads... But I'd like to challenge others to do the same. Prayerfully, of course! And if not that, then maybe do something that you wouldn't normally do. Dress-up more if you usually don't. Dress down more if you usually don't. Still clean and modestly... But see if people treat you differently. See if it bothers you. Then examine yourselves to see if how people dress has a bearing on how you treat them. You may be surprised at the results. And you may not be happy with them.... Then again, you may be pleasantly surprised.
