Gore Blames “Tyranny of the Financial Markets” For Global Warming


NEW YORK—Former Vice President Al Gore thinks that financial markets are to blame for environmental problems.

Gore, speaking at a Cornell University-sponsored roundtable in New York City on Wednesday (June 3), told the audience that the "tyranny of short-term horizons” forced companies to maximize returns on a short-term quarterly basis. This, the panelists said, undermined long-term progress in combating environmental ills, such as global warming.

This "tyranny of short-term horizons is not limited to investing but also to politics," said Gore. But the Obama administration has an opportunity to lead the world, he said, especially at the forthcoming United Nations Climate Conference in Copenhagen. And if the cap-and-trade bill to tax carbon passes in Congress this year, it would help create a "global framework" to bring China into a global agreement on regulating carbon, he said.
Gore’s comments came in response to--and echoed sentiments expressed by--Ratan Tata, chairman of the Tata Group, a multi-national conglomerate that promotes itself as environmentally conscious.

Despite decrying the financial markets, both Tata and Gore have direct financial interests in advancing global warming alarmism and promoting environmental technologies.

The Tata group recently unveiled its “green” Nano car, a small car funded in large part by government subsidies. And, in 2008, Gore admitted to having a direct financial interest in a number of green investments.

 WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama on Thursday announced eight new ambassadorial appointments, naming three big campaign donors and fundraisers to plum posts in Canada, the Bahamas and South Africa and tapping career diplomats for jobs in Guinea, Haiti and Lithuania.

Avant, an occasional actress and the vice president of Interior Music and Avant Garde Music Publishing, raised at least $500,000 for Obama and donated the maximum $4,600 to his campaign and $500 to Clinton's.

Avant's father, Clarence, a former chairman of Motown Records, contributed $4,600 to both the Obama and Clinton campaigns and donated another $25,000 to Obama's inauguration fund. Avant's brother, Alexander, was also a contributor, giving $4,600 to the Obama campaign and $1,250 to Clinton's.

For South Africa, Obama chose Donald Gips, a Colorado communications executive, aide to former Vice President Al Gore and Federal Communications Commission official. Gips raised at least $500,000 for Obama, and donated more than $4,000 to his campaign and $2,300 to Clinton's, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.


Obama chose David Jacobson, an Illinois lawyer, to be the next U.S. ambassador to Canada. Jacobson raised between $50,000 and $100,000 for Obama and donated $2,507 to his campaign and $500 each to Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden's ill-fated presidential primary runs, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

But demonstrations alone are not enough to reverse excessive government intrusion into the private sector. The challenge now is to re-energize the essential principles of constitutionally limited government in an enduring and lasting way. With Americans using the power of the Internet to organize and galvanize a growing anti-tax movement aimed at restoring limited government, the time is ripe to revisit the unfinished business of the Reagan Revolution.  This is especially relevant in the nation’s capital this week as a bust of the 40th president is unveiled in the Capitol and former first lady Nancy Reagan visits with Michelle Obama.
 
In a speech at the Jefferson Memorial on July 3, 1987, Reagan reminded Americans that political freedom cannot long survive unless economic freedom is equally respected. To that end, Reagan used the address to propose a series of legislative initiatives that went largely unheralded at the time, but that could serve as a detailed blueprint for Tea Party protesters seeking to link their  demonstrations to a compelling program for reform. Reagan’s “Economic Bill of Rights” was built around four fundamental freedoms: The freedom to work, the freedom to enjoy the fruits of one’s labor, the freedom to own and control one’s personal property, and the freedom to participate in a free market. To secure these freedoms, Reagan outlined 10 initiatives folded into a series of constitutional amendments that have a special salience today. For example, Reagan called for a balanced budget amendment and the line-item veto. Would we face a $1.7 trillion deficit today had Congress acted on Reagan’s ideas in 1987?
 
Steven Hayward of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) has suggested that Tea-Party protestors apply Reagan’s 1987 reform package to the contemporary crisis by, among other things, adding provisions for term limitations and anti-earmark legislation. “We’re still Thomas Jefferson’s children, still believers that freedom is the unalienable right of all God’s children,” Reagan said in his 1987 speech. Jefferson fervently believed that restraints were needed on the federal government to protect individual freedom. Contemporary revolutionaries now have the opportunity to channel the best of Jefferson through Reagan.

Hello Light2light and All,

Some people might genuinely believe the GLOBAL WARMING CON GAME, but others like Al Gore know IT'S A LIE for money. If you tell a lie often enough and long enough, some people will believe it, regardless of how foolish it is.

Each day, global warming takes another hit, with new reports chipping away at its creditability. 

I'd like to know when it's finally completely debunked if Gore will give back his Oscar.

 

If it is fake, how do they get seriously hurt?

As I said, they're like stuntmen.  When you see a car crash in a movie, it's staged.  But on the set, people do get hurt from time to time.

Wrestlers perform stunts in a sense.  One wrestler climbs the ropes, jumps off to land on another.  Even though they land in such a way as to make it look like they've crushed their opponent while in reality missing them, they still get bruised on the landing.  Some have broken bones.  One wrestler a few years ago died performing a "stunt."

Other stunts include tossing themselves out of the ring, lifting up an opponent and throwing him down, etc.  Again, it's all rehearsed, but it still requires exertion, which can result in injury.

The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals says the mother of a kindergartner cannot read the Bible during show and tell.
