The reason I am asking is that we had a sermon on Job last Sunday and I happen to be reading through Genesis in my daily study and ran accross the name Eliphaz and Teman, both descendants of Esau.  In Job one of the friends that come and visit Job is Eliphaz the Temanite and began to wonder if maybe this was the same person or maybe a descendant.  I have heard the theory that Job was pre-flood because of the lifespan going back to around 120 years and Job was obviously older than 120 when he died.  It has now got me really thinking about chronology of the Bible so if anyone has any suggestions where I might be able to study more of this I am open to suggestions.  Thanks for the answers.

Maybe you are a deacon in your church or maybe you have an idea of what a deacon's responsibility is in the church.  I'm curious what your thoughts on what a deacon's responsibility is.  I grew up Southern Baptist and we did not have a group of Elders in our church and the deacons were basically the leaders or decision makers in our church and now in the church that I am at, deacons are not the leaders.  What are your thoughts?

Don't know if this is really a debate topic or not but I guess people will have a different opinion on the subject.  What are your thoughts as to when Job actually lived?  I have gotten a few different thoughts on this and wanted to know what others thought and why.

I just finished the first book in a series by Nancy Moser entitled "The Invitation".  Excellent book and can't wait to read the rest of the series.

How often as a Christian should I take communion?  Growing up Southern Baptist, the Lord's Supper was observed only a handful of times every year and was a very special occasion.  Since joining a Christian church, communion is every week which goes against every fiber of my being.  I realize it is just a difference in upbringing but it seems that partaking of communion weekly would seem to make it more of a ritual than a special time to reflect upon my relationship with God. 

As an avid reader of all types of books, I have recently started on a series by Boede Thoene centered around WWII and the fight of converted Jews and moving Jews and "undesirables" out of Hitler's area of persecution.  I am only into the 3rd book of the series and am quite impressed with the history that is portrayed from a person on the ground and right in the middle of the struggle.  Has anyone else read this series and if so, what is your opinion of the writing?

Personally I had mixed feelings on the whole thing.  I'm OK with watching the super bowl but I wasn't real sure about making the party at the church.  We don't have Sunday evening services anyway so it provided another chance of fellowship with my Christian brothers and sisters.  It went very well and I'm OK with how it was presented and the turnout, I was just curious what other people thought about it.

Unfortunately, Christian brings in a lot of false religins as well as the true Faith.  Our society has become so enamored with the court system and being politically correct that no one wants to offend anyone else for fear that they can be sued.  I can't talk about my religion at work with coworkers for fear that I may be terminated for offending someones beliefs.  It may not be right but it is a sad, sad fact that we as Christians have to continue to fight.  We may not be under the same persecutions as what Paul and some others faced, but we are being persecuted all the same simply for our beliefs.

The only female judge of Israel was Deborah, found in and around Judges 4 I believe.  Have a fantabulous day.

What about in the case of a person who is born mentally handicapped?  They do not have the mental faculties to determine right from wrong and can not tell what they are doing is even wrong.  (I have a personal stake in this with a cousin that was born mentally handicapped and charged with a crime.)

I understand what you are both saying and I do most of those things.  But what I run into is a person that says, "OK, convince me that what I'm doing is wrong without making it religious".  That is where it becomes difficult.  I've been called a religious nut, or an ultra conservative Christian, close minded and I'm actually Ok with all of those things, but I just feel like if I can begin to break down those barriers and stereotypes that people lump me into then it will open up more opportunities to witness. 

I read and study my Bible daily and I have prayed about this and had numerous conversations with my pastor and some of the deacons in our church.  Sharing Christ with others is not a problem for me and though I may not be the most learned person in the world, I think that there are many opportunities to witness in these groups if only we can firtst break down some walls and defenses that people have thrown up to debunk what they call "religious nuts".

On a daily basis, I deal with peole that are non-believers and have to try and defend my position and beliefs without being able to quote scripture or even being able to mention God.  As soon as I do the person attacks my beliefs, however I would still like to be able to be a witness to this person regardless of their beliefs, lifestyle or opposing position.  Some of the topics that have come to me recently are same-sex marriage, abortion, stem cell research and alcoholism.  As a Christian do you have any suggestions on how to approach these subjects with a non-believer without using my Bible? 

Understood, I will reword my post.  Again, I do apologize that it came accross wrong.  I'm still working my way around these boards and am tickled to death to find a forum that is Christian oriented and only Christian oriented.   I will be more careful in the future.
