1  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Think about it on: June 27, 2005, 05:43:40 PM
The atheists are angry, Christians are angry.  To me that sounds like it just could be a good decision.

What personal liberties or freedoms have been lost ?

Have faith.  I've posted a link of the oral arguments for the Texas case at fifthday should you care to read them.  This case, at least to me, is the more interesting of the two.

I am not always happy with the court's decision, but generally think they make wise decisions.

Oral arguments were made on Wednesday, and yes, the court will make a decision in both cases.  The question is what the decisions will be.  No court would want to be labeled as the court that "outlawed the 10 Commandments", or something similar.

I'm of the opinion that the court is divided on the issue, and expect that a decision will be made in June.  I expect affirmation of the lower court in both cases.

6  Entertainment / Books / State of Fear on: February 14, 2005, 05:22:41 PM
by Michael Crichton.  A fast easy read with the plot centered on the case (or non-case) for global warming.

Anyone else read it ?

I don't know if I just missed it yesterday, but there is a (partial) video of the Newdow interview on the Foxnews page.

Also, this is supposed to be the Easter assignment given by Mr. Williams to his students :

What do you think of it ?

I didn't know and I missed it.  Sad  I found a partial transcript for the Williams interview at the Fox news site :

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,141030,00.html

Williams' statements are not in good agreement with what I've read in some news articles, and I wonder whether it was just one parent who complained or many.  I think it may be very hard indeed to prove discrimination.

I couldn't find any transcript of the Newdow interview.  I would have liked to read that too.  Has anyone else found one ?

Thanks and Peace !

11  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re:Declaration of Independence is banned ! on: November 26, 2004, 04:44:19 PM
I almost forgot, the worldnetdaily article had this to say :

In a season typified by lawsuits against manger scenes, crosses and even the words "Merry Christmas,"

I have never heard of anyone being sued for saying "Merry Christmas".  Has anyone else ?

I don't think the link I provided above worked as it should have.  Sad

http://www.sanmateocountytimes.com/Stories/0,1413,87~11268~2556644,00.html#

I think that fixed it.  Smiley

The DoI has not been banned, what has been banned are "supplemental excerpts".  I can only wonder what these excerpts contained and how they were presented.  I found another article from Reuters :

http://www.reuters.com/printerFriendlyPopup.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=6911883

What caught my eye were the words "true history" , and the statement discrimination was based on his being Christian.  Does this imply the school was teaching "false history" ?  I also had to wonder whether there are other Christian teachers and whether they are being descriminated against.  I hope not.

My gut feeling right now is that Mr. Williams is going to lose this one.  If the handouts are found to be inappropriate for the classroom, his free speach has not been violated.

or so the headline would have you believe -

So what do we have here ?  Promotion of religion or censorship ?  What do you think ?
