Prayer / Prayer Requests / Re:Suviviors of Katrina

We have been praying for them, since the news that the hurricane may hit.It has bothered me terribly while watching the news about the continued suffering. It makes me feel bad that I can only do so much for them.I help them the best I can,and am comforted by what my fellow texas have been doing for them.We have 700 evacuees where I live. They have been given shelter and food, which is a big undertaking for a town of 3,000 people.I don't want to bury my head in the sand, but sometimes I feel like prayer isn't enough.I do believe that money slated for foreign countries should be kept in the U.S. for now. Those refugees are going to need help for quite awhile.I am praying for everyone.

blackeyedpeas we live in Terrell,Texas. All the low income housing, like Hud and others have a waiting list at least a year long. There aren't very many places like that here.We are looking at other areas, besides Dallas. We don't really want to go back there.Their low income housing list is two years long.

Theology / General Theology / Re:What is wrong with cloning?
|

I ran across something interesting about cloning.Although I believe that scientist playing God is enough for me to be against cloning, the following information should make scientists think twice about human cloning. Human cloning may mean cloned children die very young - cloning experiments on mice in Japan show damage to immune systems, risks of death from pneumonia, liver failure, spontaneous abortions and abnormal births. 10 out of 12 cloned mice born apparently healthy at birth lived less than 800 days. Source: Scotsman The same article talks about Dolly the sheep dieing of old age. It seems that the the age indicators are present in the parents genes, and the clone will die of old age in a short time after being born. How could scientist even think about cloning a human knowing they would not live long?It would be unfair to the child, unfair to the parents and unfair to God. http://www.globalchange.com/clonenews.htm

Theology / General Theology / Re:The Ten Commandments

I agree with everyone that Jesus did not do away with the ten Commandments. It would have bee ridiculous to do so,since they are the basis of Christian behaviour.I believe he was merely telling us that if we love God,and love our brothers, the other commandments will come naturally, which is true.If we love our brothers we won't steal from them, covet or lie about them.If we love God,we will despise anything that He despises. We are to obey the Commandments, but as Christians we obey them out of faith and love rather than fear of punishment.

Thanks for the welcome blackeyedpeas. There may not be anything wrong with a debate,as long as something is learned from them.Often they make enemies out of those debating, and leave the readers more confused.I don't condemn debating,it's just not my cup of tea.

Thanks for the welcome.I thank God that there are enough scientist that believe in the soul,to be against cloning. There's a lot of good that has come from scientific experiments, but they need to stop short of playing God.

I am a Christian woman who has been lookin for a good Christian site that discusses the Bible and Jesus Christ, rather than debating the Bible. My husband and I lost our home after taking in my brother, who had gotten out of prison and had no place to stay.He ran up our bills and credit card so high we are still trying to pay it off.We are now staying in a cheap motel, until we find another home.We don't have a permenant church at this time,so I have been looking on the internet for good Christian fellowship. Many of them I ran across spent more time debating Christ than worshipping Him.I joined ChristiansUnite, because I believe it is the kind of site I am looking for.

Theology / General Theology / Re:What Must We Do To Be Saved?
|
on: August 22, 2005, 05:56:05 PM

I have had some dealings with those who believe in predestination, election and Universal Salvation. Some of their beliefs are intertwined. Some believe that the elect are the only ones that will go to Heaven, and nothing can change that. They believe that since we don't know who those elect are,we need to live a righteous life. That isn't based on Scripture. The Universalists believe in predestination,at least some do,but that everyone will eventually be saved. The elect are chosen to avoid punishment after the rapture. They don't believe that a person can fall from grace, since it is predestined for all the world to be saved. All of those beliefs are based on interpretation of the Scriptures.Although the Bible speaks of the elect,it does not say that the elect are safe from falling. 2 Timothy 10 :"Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory". If all are to be saved, and there will be no eternal punishment,as the Bible claims, then not only is the Bible wrong, but Jesus died for nothing. We are told that we must believe in Christ and repent of our sins. Those who don't do that will not get to see Heaven.
