"Learning to let go of self" comes to mind when reading this, Danielle.  Great message!

4  Entertainment / Books / Scribbling In The Sand on: August 06, 2004, 09:22:06 AM
Scribbling In the Sand is a book by Michael Card (with a small work study guide) in developing/using our gifts for the Lord's calling.  I dabble in poetry and prose and have always felt that the Holy Spirit leads these pieces; I'm just the humble/blessed transcriber.

IMHO It's a great little tool for church group use and/or in leading teens (all ages) to find and develop their gifts for His glory.

There's An Owl

There is an owl sitting in the tree of life
watching what separates man from strife.
Silently observing the scenes below.
Our inhumanity, at times, doth show.

The owl, in His wisdom, silently weeps
as into His view the mice do creep.
You can't hide your heart's song,
from His view, for very long.

What tune have you chosen to play?
What is making you wander away?
Scampering frantically to and fro
on through your life here, you do go.

Are we being offered chances untold
to climb back into the depths of His fold?
Then why does He weep?  Shouldn't He
rejoice?  I see it now, we neglect His voice.

Listen as He beckons to the heart of you..
"Who is next..tell me who?  Will pick up
My cross and follow along - and after
"hereafter" still be playing My song?"
~~~
Mark 8:34-38
Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. [35] For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. [36] What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? [37] Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? [38] If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels." [NIV]
Luke 14:27
[27] And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. [NIV]
Acts 14:22 strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. "We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God," they said. [NIV]
Life In A Nutshell
Nestled snugly within it's cone
lies the key to new forest home.
Unless into the fire, it is cast
there is no chance that it will last.
For untried seed is wasted gold
sitting safely in it's own hold.
It hasn't had it's life chance
to open up to the eternal dance.
In the middle of the hottest flame
hearts are burnished, then reclaimed.
By our loving God Who cures all metal
tenderness of dew that clings to petal.
Feeling as if you're in the heat of the flame?
Remember God is seeking souls to claim.
He'll open your heart like that of the cone,
and carry you safely onward home.
The Book Of Life
How many stars
in the night sky appear?
Can you count them all
both far and quite near?
Do you feel the reverse
of gravity's flow -
as up to the Heavens
you're called to go?
Angels on high
await your new name.
As God grants no two
as the exacting same.
Sing His praises, while
on the earth below.
Love your brother as yourself,
don't be afraid - let it show.
Please honor our Saviour
in all that you do.
And may He write a name
in the book of life for you.
Ps. 9:5 “You have rebuked the nations, you have destroyed the wicked; you have
blotted out their name forever and ever.”
Ps. 69:28: "Let them be blotted out of the book of the living and not be written with the righteous."
Rev.13:8: "And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Rev.17:8:..."and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world."
Rev.20: 12-15: "And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."
