1  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re:Now This is Odd..... on: January 10, 2004, 07:55:12 PM
Hey, I saw that about the guy and the cable tv on the news a day or two ago.

The guy feels that lifetime of free high speed internet should be proper compensation.  Grin

Scary thing is, he just may win.

If he does, they'd better put a clause in there to protect themselves from him coming back in a few years and making the same case about the free internet service.  Wink

Ah ravenloche, my old friend. (about 25 year's worth) Wink

(didn't I last see you in person a few hours ago?)

Also as old forum buddies, I see you are trying to be soft-spoken now so I'll have to blast you heh?

(Usually the other way around, I'm normally the soft-spoken and you're the blaster)

I'm glad to see my influence is rubbing off on ya though.  Grin

You got at good point there. So many times it's hard for us to come to the concept of SELF decreasing while JESUS increases in our lives. It's so easy to get caught up in the carnal, even those among us who consider ourselves more spiritual than most. Truth is, none of us are beyond reproach so it's with this humility that we must examine our humanity.

Yes, God knows our potential, even when we don't see it and even when we seem to overbloat it too. In Christ we obtain hope and this gives us a peace that passes all understanding. We have a peace that the world doesn't comprehend because our peace doesn't come from worldy things. But at the same time we must have a humble spirit lest we become haughty. We have to find that balance. This we do by following Christ and allowing Him to lead us.
3  Theology / Apologetics / Re:No truth "out there"! on: January 08, 2004, 09:23:23 AM
So, is there life "out there?".

The bible indicates that with Adam's fall, ALL of creation was affected. The ALL here includes the heavenly bodies as well.

The only thing Seti will hope to find is the same random radio signals eminating from the stars that it has recieved for years. This despite their building a new array of smaller recieving dishes that can be targeted independantly instead of the one big dish they have that can only listen to one small point of the sky at a time. In other words, now they will be able to listen to multiple points.

Of course, all this in vain when they only need to pick up a bible for the answers.

Finally, Revelation tells us that the heavens will be rolled up like a scroll. This being the case, if there was life out there, this action would invariably destroy their dwelling place(s).

I, therefore, interject that other life forms will not be found outside our planet.

Of course, this is only my narrow-minded view.  Grin

So, how do we define truth? Well, it depends on the mindset you bring to the table. Believers and unbelievers will have different "truths".

Nevertheless, we must surmise when more damage than good is being done in the debate. Oftentimes, these kinds of debates can cause much distress and hurt feelings among both the unbelievers and new Christians.

At the same time, ppl who mostly read the comments may be learning things they wouldn't have otherwise.

Even so, we must use wisdom in order to find that justifiable balance.
5  Theology / Apologetics / Re:A Question on Genesis. on: January 05, 2004, 09:34:28 AM
Excellent answer Petro!!!

Judas,

Let me just add that God created the light on Day 1 and the sun and stars on day 4. Remember that in the new heaven and earth, the Lord is the light and there is no need for the sun.

With this in mind, the sun wasn't necessary to separate the night from the day. You do remember the qualifiers, "and the even and the morning were the x day". ... and this before even the sun and stars existed.

Evolution would have you believe that the sun and stars came first. The bible has a very different beginning. First the heavens, then the earth, then the land masses and seas, then later (4th day) the sun and stars.

So, why the all those stars, even those too dim to be seen by the naked eye? The thought that immediately comes to my mind is for us in these latter days to discover the vastness of God's creation that it testifies of his great majesty!

He creates those things which we can and cannot see. Thus, we discover a greater sense of appreciation for our creator.
6  Theology / General Theology / Re:Cremation? on: January 04, 2004, 05:39:33 PM
I'm pretty much neutral on the topic, but I think Quartus made great points.

After re-reading, I can't seem to correlate the topical differences of dust and ashes in 1 Cor. 15:35-50. There, I get the strong sense that He is quite capable of resurrecting us from whatever state our bodies are in. Emphasis is placed on the various differences of flesh, i.e. of human, beasts, fish, etc. This says to me that He, being the creator, is able to keep what we have committed to Him.

blackeyedpeas.

Thank you for that welcome and complement. I'll try not to disappoint you.

BTW, you from Oklahoma? Then I'm your neighbor from Arkansas.
8  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re:Beasts of Revelation 13 - Arafat and his Prime Minister on: January 03, 2004, 08:55:30 PM
ephraim

What a wonderful job of carving the edges of the puzzle pieces to make them all fit.  Wink

But first, can you explain that thing about the 7 again?
You know, where you said:

The seven nations that compose the beast empire are Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Jordan and Egypt. The ten kings are all the present rulers of these countries plus the three that are subdued by Arafat.

Here you seemed to have listed 7 prominient (perhaps not the the most prominient, Saudi Arabia wasn't mentioned, you know, where the mecca of their faith resides?) islamic nations. The major issue here are the 3 leaders subdued by Arafat, then you mentioned: Netanyahu, Barak and Sharon. Only obstacle here is that these three are not islamic, but are Israelis. How do you reconcile this little problem  Huh
9  Theology / Prophecy - Current Events / Re:Hitler: Nobel Peace Prize nominee on: January 03, 2004, 07:36:01 PM
Yes, Arafat was awarded it.

Goes to show how credible the coveted prize is when they let the worst elements of society have such honor.   Wink

As one new to this forum, but not new to forum debates, I have come to see the futility in debating with those who only wish to devour your pearls.

However, there are ppl out there who still wish to have fruitful discussions. The best method is to test them first with the appropriate questions to see whether they are genuinely seeking for truth or snaring you into their trap.

I wish not to argue or debate when no ground is gained, in fact, the bible teaches us not to do so.

However, in our pure conversation, we may be able to bring to light nuggets of truth for someone who is truly on a quest of learning. In this sense, we remember 1pet 3:15 but sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord: [being] ready always to give answer to every man that asketh you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, yet with meekness and fear:
