Theology / General Theology / Re:A Great Day Coming

This reminds me of the Bhudda followers, who foolishly believe we keep reincarnating in order to learn from the evils and mistakes of our past lives. The end result is a world free of all evil and full of "universal truth and peace" A good friend of mine was into this false religion for a time. That is until I put this question to him. "If this stuff is true, then why has the world become so much more evil and violent?" He chocked out a half hearted answer, then eventually came to realize I was right. My friend is now a new Christian!! Uh, this is not at all what "Bhudda followers" believe about reincarnation. Frankly I don't believe your little story is true at all. Why make up something like this? This is lame.

In 1963 bibles were removed from the schools by the decision of Murray v. Curlett, based on this inexplicable pronouncement of the Supreme Court: "If portions of the new testament were read without explanation, they could be and have been psychologically harmful to the child. Again, in Murray, the Supreme Court cited no precedent, as indeed there were none. The Court blatantly declared God's word to be harmful to children!
What you are saying here, your quote, is absolutely not true. I'd be interested in seeing where you got this. The Supreme Court is concerned with Constitutional issues, not with the psychological welfare of children - that is a matter for State and local courts. In its 1963 ruling, the Supreme Court did not "abolish prayer" in public schools. It ended a coercive religious practice which even many people of faith found offensive and intrusive.

Oh please, you must be kidding!
This Stanley guy must be a very wealthy man, judging from all the books, cruises, and other products he has for sale!
I'm pretty sure he has heard all the objections that I might raise, certainly there are many others with more motivation and time that are doing what you are asking me to do.

In 1962, the Court decided that prayer should be removed from our schools. Sorry, no it didn't! The court said that teacher-led prayers were unconstitutional. If children aren't praying in school it's because they don't want to. One year later, in 1963, the Bible was removed from public schools. Any information on this? The reason the Court gave is almost unbelievable: because reading Scripture might cause psychological damage to children. It's unbelievable because it's not true. The Supreme Court is concerned with Constitutional issues. I was going to go through the rest of the post, but it's really not worth the trouble. The author is simply being dishonest. He seems to be one of a growing number of people that wants to make a living by telling born again/evangelical Christians what they want to hear.

Amen PR. To finish the book...
Rev 22:6 And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done. Rev 22:7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
Grace and Peace!
Shortly??!! Quickly!!?? What was the future to John is now the past to us. There is nothing in Revelation about our future. How about addressing my main point? About the pre-scientific idea that stars could to fall to earth, and . We would all be dead long long before any star got close to earth. Besides what about the absolute impossibility of people "hiding" when stars fall on earth?

I must disagree with your assertion that these events are figurative my friend.. Read the bold text and compare it with the following verses.
Rev 6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
Rev 6:14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
Rev 6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
Rev 6:16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
Rev 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
The verses you quoted are not figurative. Rev 6:13-17 clearly describes a literal cataclysmic even occurring. The situation was so catastrophic that every mountain and island were moved out of their places. Every living person was terrified and tried to hide, even begging for death in order to escape the Wrath of God.
Bronzesnake
One big problem with taking this literally. If any of the "stars of heaven" even came anywhere near our solar system, not to mention the earth itself, our planet would be pulled out of orbit and every living thing would be dead in a matter of seconds. No one would be "hiding". Revelation was written during a period of persecution, and is specific to it's time. It is not prophecy, it is an example of apocalyptic literature.

Isn't this all just a bit silly?
I mean, throughout most of the last two thousand years the majority of Christians have been unable to read scripture for themselves. They were either illiterate or too poor to be able to afford a Bible. For the first few hundred years Christians didn't even have a Bible. It's only in the last couple hundred years, since the Industrial Revolution gave rise to an educated middle class, that most Christians have been able to have a Bible in their homes. Millions of Christians are functionally illiterate today!
So how important is all this? I mean, get a sense of Christ's message, then start walking the walk. Do a bit of daily devotional reading if it gives you comfort. Having an encyclopedic knowledge of scripture isn't necessary to be a good Christian.
Sitting around obsessing which translation is or isn't the best - I don't think that's what it's all about.

Well I'm not upset. Just annoyed when people who know nothing about Catholicism repeat the same scurrilous charges that have been posted ad nauseum on the internet. I'm not Catholic, but over a billion of my Christian brothers and sisters are in mourning right now, so would it have hurt you to stifle yourself, keep your anti-Catholic thoughts to yourself for a while? It would seem to be a decent thing to do.

Does the Popes version of Christianity pass the test of the Word of God? Is the Popes version of Christainity found to be the truth according to the Holy Bible? Does the Bible speak of a Pope? Did Peter consider himself the vicar of Christ? Was Peter greater than Paul? Does the Bible teach us to pray to Mary? Does the Bible tell us Mary is waiting for us in Heaven? Is Rome the chosen city of God or the city of the harlot of Revelation 17? Does the Popes version of Christianity match your version of Christianity? Does the Holy Bible teach us to be Catholic? Does the Bible speak of Priests in the Church? Does the Bible tell us to call the priests "father"? Did Jesus ever present himself exalted as the Pope does? I haven't even mentioned the priest sexual abuse scandal in America. Is the doctrine of the Pope the doctrine of Christ?
These are just a few of my questions. I'm scared for the Popes soul. I wouldn't want to be him. He's got some serious explaining to do!!!
Paul2
Good to see that good old fashioned anti-Catholic nincompoopery is still alive on this forum! What has any of this to do with John Paul's immortal soul? What does the city of Rome have to do with the Pope's walk with Jesus?

WOW! - You have one example of moral progress. Do you have another one? There isn't room here to list the areas of moral erosion. If you think that the morals of today are higher than they were 50 years ago, you couldn't be older than 10. My dad does this once in a while, and when he goes into what I call his "cranky old man mode", I simply point out that the 'good old days' were not really as good as he remembers!

I think you would be hard-pressed to find even a single one of our Black brothers and sisters who would prefer to live in the United States of 50 years ago.
This is around the 50th anniversary of the birth of the Civil Rights Movement, which most historians say began with the national reaction to the murder of a 14 year old black boy, Emmett Till, by a gang of white men and women in Mississippi. Two men were tried and though the evidence of their guilt was overwhelming, they were acquited.
The America of 50 years ago was, for many Christians, an ugly place indeed.

By the way. I am presently building a web site which, among other things, presents strong, clear evidence for creation and against evolution.
As soon as it's complete, I will invite you to visit and learn the real facts, as opposed to the garbage and outright fraud you have picked up in school.
Bronzesnake.
Oh boy! Can't wait for this one.

I just find Enoch fascinating, though; even if it isn't scripture.
Actually, it is Scripture, for some Christians at least. It is in the Canon of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. It is possibly the oldest Christian organization on earth.
