Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”

 So we should ignore this?

Oklahoma Howdy to All,

I'm really not trying to stir the pot or try to argue. Many things that we pay no attention to at all have pagan origins. It would truly be evil if we practiced as the pagans did for such events. Let me give you a couple of examples for thought.

The days of the week are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Each have a pagan origin dedicated to a god that is not Almighty God. Thursday is Thor. I don't wake up on Thursdays and worship Thor. I wake up every day worshiping Almighty God.

Easter, May Day, Valentines Day, Christmas, Halloween, and many other holidays have pagan origins. I can assure you that Easter Sunday at my church is used to worship Almighty God. The Easter rabbit and eggs are pagan symbols of fertility rituals practiced during the same time of the year. I didn't know that until I was 40 years old, but we always had Eastern egg hunts on Easter.

Wedding rings are a pagan ritual. My wife and I both wear one, but we view them as a token of a Holy vow made before God. We could really care less what the pagans thought about wedding rings. We've been married for over 30 years and kept our vows, not because of the rings.

Flowers at a funeral are a pagan ritual.

Many common items and customs we think nothing about are pagan.

And, yes, harvest festivals are pagan.

You would not believe the lengthy list of common items and customs that have pagan origins, but Christians don't worship those items or practice those customs in the manner or purpose the pagans did.

I wanted to mention one more thing and I'm hoping that nobody has hurt feelings about holidays. How many folks here believe they can with any degree of accuracy say that Jesus Christ was born on December 25th? By the way, birthday celebrations are pagan. I doubt I can prove it, but I don't think that Jesus Christ was born anywhere near December 25th. It doesn't matter to me because I celebrate Christ every day.

I was guessing there might be some hurt feelings in this thread after reading some of the messages, and I hope it doesn't turn out that way. If it is a matter of conscience and conviction not to observe a particular day, holiday, or custom, don't do it. If you are worshiping God that day and have no conviction of evil in what you are doing, so be it.

Love in Christ,
Tom

Once again,I agree.!

**Food for Thought**

God’s salvation plan teaches to be saved we must:

1.)   Hear the “good news” of Jesus Christ (Romans 10:14)

2.)   Believe (Hebrews 11:6; Acts 8:37; Mark 16:16)

3.)   Repent of our sins (Luke 13:3,5; Acts 2:38; Acts 17:30; Mark 10:15)

4.)   Confess faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 8:36-37; Romans 10:9)

5.)   Be baptized (in water) for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:37-41; 1Peter 3:21; John 3:3-5; Acts 22:16; Romans 6:3-8; Colossians 2:12; Galatians 3:26-27; Mark 16:15-16; Acts 8:34-39; Titus 3:5; Ephesians 4:5)

6.)   Remain faithful for the rest of our lives and carry our cross daily (Revelation 2:10; Matthew 24:13; Luke 9:23)

Something i found...

Baptism is how we get into Christ.

Baptism is always accompanied by faith and repentance.

Baptism is God’s terms of surrender.

Baptism is our signal to God we have accepted Christ’s gospel.

Baptism is the external washing with water and the internal washing away of sin by God.

Baptism is “calling on the name of the Lord.”

Baptism is being unified with Christ in his death, burial and resurrection.

Baptism is “clothing” ourselves with Christ.

Baptism is “accepting” Christ (on His terms, not ours)

Baptism is when our sins are forgiven.

Baptism is when we receive the Holy Spirit.

Baptism is how and when we come into contact with the blood of Christ.

Baptism is when we are reborn.

Baptism is an act of faith.

Baptism is how we enter the kingdom of God.

Baptism is when we are added to the body of Christ (the church).

Baptism is when we exchange our life for His.

Baptism is when we die to ourselves and come alive in Christ.

Baptism is the washing of regeneration, and renewal of the Holy Spirit.

Baptism is the starting gun of a race of a new life.

Baptism is proclaiming in Christ the resurrection of the dead.

Baptism is when the old dies and the new arises. In this manner we become saved.

Baptism is the point in time when we become saved.

Baptism is when we stop living for ourselves and start living for Jesus.

Baptism is how and when we scripturally make a conscious decision to dedicate our lives to Christ.

Baptism is how we scripturally enter into a relationship with Christ.

Baptism is the gavel striking the bench proclaiming forgiveness of sins, the end of the old and the birth of the new.

BAPTISM:

is done FOR the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38)

is done to SAVE us (1Peter 3:21, Acts 2:40, Mark 16:16)

Is done to WASH AWAY OUR SINS (Acts 22:16)

is done to be  REBORN to new life (John 3:5, Romans 6:3-6)

is done to CLOTHE ourselves with Christ (Gal 3:26-27)

is done so that  GOD will RESURRECT us from death (Colossians 2:12, Romans 6:3-6)

is done as a REQUIRMENT to enter heaven (John 3:5)

is done to put us INTO CHRIST (Romans 6:3-6, Galatians 3:26-27, 1Corinthians 12:13)

First of all, we should pay attention to the "doctrines of baptisms" as written in Hebrews 6:2. According to the Bible, there are three different baptisms; the baptism of John the Baptist for repentance, the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist, and our baptism. The baptism that we receive is a confession of our faith in believing the baptism of Jesus. That is to say, we are baptized in order to confess that we believe Jesus was baptized to take away all our sins and also died on the Cross to atone them. Now you can understand Matthew 3:15 where it says, "Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." "Thus" here means that Jesus Himself bore all the sins of the world by being baptized by John the Baptist, the representative of all mankind.
