Theology / Apologetics / Re:Only 9% of all Christians have a biblical worldview?

The Barna Group and polls are not the Gospel, but it should make a Christian think. Having a biblical worldview,, simply means you apply God's Word and His standards to everyday life. He no longer just becomes a "personal Jesus", but rather He is the footprint for all your decision making. For example having a Biblical Worldview means that you apply God's Word and His standards to government. You apply His standards to running and operating your business. You apply His standards in how you deal with finances, etc.... Unfortunately, many Christians apply God's Word on Sundays and Wednesdays to their lives, and they use the worlds standards for the rest of the week. Having a Biblical Worldview is a good thing! It's the real thing! Psalm 119

Tibby, If you would take a few moments, go to Google, type in "pagan Christmas", there is tons of information on the pagan origins of Christmas. You know what is so interesting one can ask most any Pastor about the origins of Christmass and they will tell you they know all about the roots of the holiday, but they give you the BIG BUT.....answer. Make no mistake about Christmas, it did not originate from Christian roots, then get paganized. Christians took a pagan holiday and have attempted to Christianize it. Jesus said, you will know a tree by it's fruit. Let me ask you this question:"If Christmass was truly a God honoring holiday, would the wicked have anything to do with it?" "If it is truly the birthdate of the Savior of the World would those who despise Him want to acknowlege this day?" Tertullian(A.D, 150-230), an early Christian apologist, in his "Treatise of Idolatry" wrote the following: "Let those who have no light in themselves light candles. "Let those whom hell fire is hanging fix to their doors laurels doomed presently to burn. You are the light of the world, you are a tree ever green. If you have renounced temples, make not your own house a temple. Here is a link from statements made by Charles Spurgeon (a world famous preacher/evangelist from the 1800's) in regards to Christmas. http://www.balaams-ass.com/journal/resource/spurgeon.htmThese things I share are from someone who loves the Lord Jesus and His Word. Not from a Jehovah's Witness or another cult. Psalm 119

December 25th is a holiday that began thousands of years before the birth of Christ. It was steeped around the worship of the Sun (not SON). The pagans believed that the sun was re-born at this time of year. The greenery was placed all around to keep evil spirits away and bring "good luck", and the gift exchange was in honor of the goddess Strenia. Around 336 A.D. the Catholic Church adopted these pagan practices, and repackaged the holiday and called it Christmas. Meaning Christ's Mass/ an abominable Catholic practice. Most biblical scholars will agree that Jesus was not born in December, due to the inclement weather at this time of year. The shepherds would not have been out in the fields with their flocks.
The first 300 plus years after the death of Christ, the Church of Jesus Christ did not acknowlege His birth ( for no where in the Bible does it say to do such a thing). We are to acknowledge His death.Over the centuries there have been Christians who would not participate in the Catholic; Christ-mass.The Puritans were such a people. They forbade the practice of it when they first settled in Massachussetts. There is a remnant of Christians today who refuse to particpate in this holiday known as Christ-mass.
So what does Christmass mean to me? I believe it's a stench in the nostrils of a Holy God.
"For the customs of the peoples are futile, for one cuts a tree from the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the ax. They decorate it with nails and hammers, so that it will not topple. They are upright, like a palm tree, and they cannot speak." Jer. 10:3-5

Symphony,
Insightful piece!
The enemy has been spewing it's anti-Christ spirit upon this nation with unprecedented fervor.
Over the past few months I have witnessed: "gay" marriage ( in Canada), the media (Dan Rather) equating child murder with home education, and the need for more government regulation, judges that believe they are smarter and wiser then God, so on and so forth......
Over the years the judicary and the general public have tolerated Christians. But the winds have changed......just as in Germany. We have come to a turning point.
There is a secret court in D.C. ,and has been for sometime. The Patriot Act has opened up the floodgates for more persecution ( of course, all in the name of curtailing terrorism). For all we know, there may Christians locked up right now. We have a runaway judiciary with absolutely no accountabilty. And as I write this ,Terri Schiavo in Florida is being murdered by starvation ( all court sanctioned), and a Gov. who says his hands are tied.
I beginning to think I'm living in Rome!

Joy,
Good question!
"For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God" Luke 16: 15b
Tolerance has been interchanged with acceptance, and love, which it is not.
For those advocates of "tolerance" it simply means "keep your mouth shut and let me do my own thing"
Jesus was "intolerant" of the money changers. God was "intolerant" of sodomy, in Sodom and Gommorah. He was "intolerant" of the wickedness prior to the flood. The list could go on and on and on.........
For a Christian, the rules of engagement are quite simple. We should love those things that God loves. And when He says He hates something ,we should too.

After reading some of these posts ,this Scripture came to my mind.
""Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, AND WALK AFTER OTHER GODS WHOM YOU DO NOT KNOW (emph mine), and then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say: WE ARE DELLIVERED TO DO ALL THESE ABOMINATIONS?" Has this house, which is called by My name become a den of thieves, in your eyes? Behold I, even I, have seen it, sdays the Lord."
Jeremiah 7:9-11
Dear friends,
Have you read the book of Jeremiah.....do you know why God brought judgement on Israel.....Killing them by the sword, famine, and carrying them off to Babylon? Do you know what their sin was? Simply put....they appeared to be religious, attending "Church", but their hearts went after other gods . Yes, they proclaimed we are Abraham's children, ("Christians") but their hearts were not given wholly to the Lord. Women worshipped the Queen of Heaven (Mary), "God's people" were sacrificing their children to Molech, and worshipping other pagan deities.
Has anything changed in the year of 2003?

Jabez,
Let's back up a minute.....
Halloween has no Christian roots; period. But it is steeped and founded on the occult. You cannot "Christianize" Halloween.
Elijah declared to the children of Israel," How long will you falter between two opinions"?If the Lord is God follow Him; but if Baal, follow him" I Kings 18:21
Jabez, who will you follow?

PhilKosba, I know Jesus is not a liar, but man has devised man made holidays including Good Friday and Easter. If one is Catholic, I could understand the idolatry. Jesus did command us to remember his death and resurrection, which we do each time we take communion. He never did tell us to remember Easter who was a Cannanite goddess. Also the "sunrise service" is pagan to the core. It all originated in sun worship NOT Son worship. For my Baptist friends you may want to read this short article on Easter. http://users.aol.com/libcfl/easter.htmPsalm 119

My 3 yr old girl is going as a skunk, and my 12 yr old boy is going as a hunter. No devils or whitchs here.I teach my children right and wrong. We only go for candy nothing more.
Jabez, Do you know how "trick or treat" originated? Hundreds of years ago it began to appease the spirits that supposedly were let loose this day (Halloween)to roam the earth. People would leave out large tables of food for the "spirits" and children would sneak out and take it. Eventually, it became "trick or treat". The whole business with the masks was for the "spirits" to hide behind so no one would recognize who they were. Halloween is the highest "holy" day for devil worshippers. Why would a Christian even acknowledge such a demonic day? Psalm 119

I have a question. Would God allow the people He has chosen from the beginning to be aborted?
Heidi, Jeremiah 1:4 states that God knew Jeremiah (as He does all of us) before He formed him in the womb. I believe with all my heart that God knows each person before He formed them. He has decided long ago how many children He would give us. Can man thwart God's plans?; no. Will God allow it; yes. For example God may want a certain Christian couple to have 3 children; another couple 5, another 10. If that couple goes out of God's design and they are sterilized, or abort their children through abortifacients, then they have stepped out of bounds. Children are a gift from God....blessed is the man who has his quiver full of them. It really comes down to trusting and obeying the Lord. He will not give us more than we can bear. Love, Psalm 119
