Title: Some help tips, for the newer folks.
Post by: Shammu on January 15, 2006, 05:15:40 PM
Using the (http://forums.christiansunite.com/Themes/babylon/images/bbc/sup.gif) allows you to post on a upper level.

Using (http://forums.christiansunite.com/Themes/babylon/images/bbc/sub.gif) allows you to post on a lower level

Course,  y'all know how to  change colors.

The (http://forums.christiansunite.com/Themes/babylon/images/bbc/size.gif) allows you to change font size.

Using the (http://forums.christiansunite.com/Themes/babylon/images/bbc/img.gif) allows you to post an image.

Using the (http://forums.christiansunite.com/Themes/babylon/images/bbc/url.gif) allows you to insert a url, link like this http://forums.christiansunite.com/ (http://forums.christiansunite.com/)

Using the (http://forums.christiansunite.com/Themes/babylon/images/bbc/email.gif), is for an e-mail address. Though most forum, you don't have to do this.

There will be more to come.

I don't think so. The best way to figure them out is to experiment with them.

Hi, this is nothing major, but in doing my Read-post thru the Bible, i notice that sometimes when i post certain Scripture references that use the number 8 in parenthesis, like (Lv. 24:8), i end up with a cool face 8) . I see the reason why. evidently that is the same code, but i thought i would let you know. Maybe if i put a space between the number and the parenthesis it will not do it. I do the study off line and then paste it, which is why i don't catch it.

Hello Daniel1212AV,

Many people use quick keyboard codes for the smilies and an "8" right next to a ")" is the quick code for a cool face. When you get ready to save your message, click the options on the bottom left and mark "Don't Use Smileys". That will take care of this problem. You either have to click this option when saving every message or risk a smiley coming up. You can click the "Help" key at the top of your screen and get a list of the quick codes that result in smileys. I usually just make a habit of clicking "Don't Use Smileys" unless I want to use smileys.

The user interface is really pretty nice. Just click "Additional Options" and see a menu that contains "Don't Use Smileys".

Love in Christ,
Tom

Galatians 6:9-10 NASB  Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.

Another quick way of fixing that problem is if you use a Scripture in parentheses that ends with an 8 just add an extra space to it and that will fix the problem too.

I'm sorry I didn't specify where to add the extra space. It goes right after the 8 and before the parentheses.  :D

Question?
There has been several times that after having added a post, I have wanted to add a Smiley face.  When I click on the Smiley of my choice my entire post is deleted. Needless to say to avoid this problem of having to retype posts I just don't use smiley faces. Any suggestions??

Title: Re: Some help tips, for the newer folks.
Post by: Soldier4Christ on June 13, 2007, 12:10:29 PM
I'm not clear on exactly what you are saying. Are you saying this is happening prior to submitting the post the first time or is it happening on a modify to your post??

If it is during a modify then insure that the text you want posted is still in the modify box along with the smiley before clicking on save. If it is on the original submit then I am stumped as it shouldn't remove the text when the smiley is added.

It is on the orginal post. Sometimes it seems it  happened with certain ones I picked. I will try it again and see if I can narrow the field down. If not old fashioned smiles will do.  :)

Is this with the forum generated smilies or with extras that you are using?

Here are the forum generated smilies.

All of those seem to work for me.

Hello Islandboy,

This is very strange and the first time I've ever heard of a problem like this being reported. I wouldn't have a clue what might cause this.

Do you get any error messages from either your own computer or the server on Christians Unite?

If so, please save those error messages and post them so that we might be able to figure out what's going on.

The forum software is mature, stable, and used by many thousands of people on a huge number of forums. This type of error on a very simple forum function would be like a trip into the Twilight Zone.   :o

Please see if you can duplicate the error and collect all possible information to see if we can unravel this mystery.

Happens with the forum generated smilies. There is no error message. Just when I would click on smilies to add one, the post I had just typed in would disappear. I try again tomarrow and let you know what happens.

What browser are you using? Some other members were having various problems with graphics on the forum when using Internet Explorer. I switched to using FireFox a long time ago and have had virtually no problems on the forum since then.

Hello Pastor Roger and Others,

I completely forgot about all of the new security settings in Internet Explorer 7. There have been some pretty strange problems listed. For me, I couldn't use it at all and had to uninstall it. It wasn't just the forum, rather it messed everything up. I had so many problems that I couldn't list them. I can't see how putting a smiley in a forum post could relate to security, but maybe there is some sort of weird security setting in Internet Explorer 7 that is causing this.

I am using Internet Explorer, but I haven't upgraded to 7 yet as I have heard of all the problems and figured I would wait until they are fixed. I managed to insert a smiley today with no trouble. It could never happen again, or else it is waiting until I write a really long post that i have worked really hard on so it can wipe it away to my dismay and unbelief.   :o :o

I would suggest Firefox, since I've used Firefox, I haven't had a problem.  I had way to many problems using Billy-boy Gates, Internet Explorer.  http://en.www.mozilla.com/en/firefox/

I went and downloaded Foxfire. Are there any add-on's that you would recommend that I use? As far as the Smiley's go, maybe a slight glitch with my server could have accrued, I still have a dial-up provider.   :-\

There are several threads in the Computer area that list some excellent add-ons.

Hello Islandboy,

I've been using Firefox for a long time, and they have thousands of free add-ons. We do have some reviews of various extensions for Firefox under "Computers and Software". I'll give you a list of some of my favorite extensions:

All-Time Favorites with a **

**  Adblock Plus
CacheViewer
Calculator
**  Clippings
CustomizeGoogle
DownThemAll
FasterFox
**  FireFTP
**  Flashgot
**  Flat Bookmark Editing
IE Tab
MR Tech Local Install
NoScript
**  Scrapbook
Table2Clipboard

I'm still on slow dial-up until the end of the month, so I know about the problems of slow connections. Adblock and FasterFox do help quite a bit with this. Some of the extensions are for special uses that not everyone needs. FireFTP is a tiny and excellent FTP client that works great. Scrapbook is wonderful for people who like to collect bits and pieces of various web sites in various formats. I use it for Bible studies and love it. You can catalog information like a database and retrieve in by searches very quickly. Table2Clipboard is a utility for people doing spreadsheets and database, so it wouldn't be useful unless you had a specific need for it. DownThemAll and FlashGot are download helpers that make things pretty easy, especially for people with slow connections.

Take a look in the "Computers and Software" area for some more detailed reviews of extensions that folks like. Have fun - I don't think you will ever want to go back to Internet Explorer. Firefox is fun, fast, safe, and excellent. It also has the greatest assortment of add-ons - no other browser comes even close.

You will also have a huge selection of themes to make the browser look however you want. The look of Firefox is definitely not a one size fits all. You have your choice of many colors, styles, and command configurations. There's even a Christian theme in two different colors that's very nice.

1. To post pictures you must have a picture on a web site or you can get an account at an image hosting web site such as this free one

http://photobucket.com/register.php

2. Once you have an account you can download images from your computer file into that web site. After you have done this there will be a url assigned to that picture. A url will look like this:

http://www.jesuspaintings.com/pictures/the-crucifixion.jpg

3. On photobucket all you have to do is click on the url and it will automatically highlight it and copy it to your clipboard.

4. To post it on this web site go to a reply box on Christians Unite. Look for this button just above the empty message box:

(http://forums.christiansunite.com/Themes/babylon/images/bbc/img.gif) and click on it.

5. When the img function comes up in the message box paste the url of your picture in the middle of it.

6. Make any additional comments you want in the message box and click on the post button.

Hello Gentlemen!  I have a question....
How (exactly) do I use the "quote" button?  What do I do to get just the sentence, phrase, etc that I want?

Title: Re: Some help tips, for the newer folks.
Post by: Soldier4Christ on October 17, 2007, 07:39:10 PM
You do this a number of different ways. You can use the quote button or if you already have a reply box on your screen you can go down to the other post and click on insert quote from one of more posts.

Once the quote shows in you reply box you can then highlight what you do not want and hit the back space button on your keyboard. That will remove all sentences you don't want and still have the name of the person you are quoting.

Another way is to highlight and copy just the sentence you want and then paste it into the reply box. Doing this doesn't put the persons name there and if you want it then you would have to type that in.

Hello StrikeToWin,

When the issue is alternative lifestyles, the Bible is the only authority here. I must add that the Holy Bible covers this topic bluntly and without question in the Old Testament and the New Testament. The answers from the Bible are already all over the forum. Our rules are designed for Christian Family use, including children. Christian parents can turn their children loose here and not worry about what they will see.

I realize there are many people who don't like what the Bible has to say on this issue and many others. However, we do like what the Bible says, and that's what is taught here. It does contain the answers for the misery of mankind. There is also much more than just this short life. The stakes are HIGH and the decisions have Eternal consequences - either good or bad. Once a person dies, their opportunity to accept CHRIST as LORD and SAVIOUR is gone. It should also be known that the length of this life is very uncertain, so this day or hour might be the last opportunity.

Love In Christ,
Tom

I was reading this older thread and wanted to share a thought.

People these days come up with all kinds of reasons to reject and disobey GOD. However, there really isn't anything NEW at all - the reasons and excuses are ancient! It's a good thing that the answer hasn't changed for SIN, regardless of how horrible and dark that SIN is. THE ANSWER IS STILL THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS CHRIST AND THE CROSS!

GOOD NEWS!

1:  Romans 3:10 NASB  as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD; ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE."

2:  Romans 3:23  NASB  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

3:  Romans 5:12  NASB  Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned--

4:  Romans 6:23  NASB  For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

5:  Romans 1:18  NASB  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

6:  Romans 3:20  NASB  because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

7:  Romans 3:27  NASB  Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.

8:  Romans 5:8-9  NASB  But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.

9:  Romans 2:4  NASB  Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

10:  Romans 3:22  NASB  even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction;

11:  Romans 3:28  NASB  For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law.

12:  Romans 10:9  NASB  that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

13:  Romans 4:21  NASB  and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.

14:  Romans 4:24 NASB  but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, as those who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,

15:  Romans 5:1  NASB  Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

16:  Romans 10:10  NASB  for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

17:  Romans 10:13  NASB  for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."

Thanks be unto GOD for HIS unspeakable GIFT!, JESUS CHRIST, our Lord and Saviour forever!

Some things have changed today. The vanity, insolence, and disregard, and disrespect of GOD these days is worse. The Bible states these things will happen, and they are. If these are the End Days of this Age of Grace, The HOLY BIBLE and GOD Promises that things will get much worse.

I think that we're seeing a preview of these End Days, and the End Days might be much closer than any of us think. Mankind is trying to take the place of GOD, and the evidence of this is everywhere. Some of the fastest so-called religious movements today are humanism and universal salvation. Some men exhibit the ultimate vanity by trying to write their sins and disobedience out of the Bible. The only way they can do this is to write their own Bible that excludes the commands of GOD that they disapprove of. Man has a need for politically correct Bibles that don't convict them of their sins and DESPERATE NEED OF JESUS CHRIST AS LORD AND SAVIOUR!

Knowledge of SIN is still one of the first steps for man to KNOW that he is LOST, UNDONE, and CONDEMNED TO THE CURSE OF SIN AND DEATH! The devil doesn't want mankind to know about sin and the end result. The devil especially doesn't want man to know about the biggest defeat of satan in HISTORY - JESUS CHRIST and the CROSS. This has been about 2,000 years ago now, and the devil knows that his time is running out. This is just one reason why the FULL STRENGTH GOSPEL OF THE GRACE OF GOD - THE GOOD NEWS - is still the most powerful message on the face of the earth.

Faith still comes by HEARING, AND HEARING BY THE WORD OF GOD! Regardless of man's vanity and hard shell of political correctness, man knows that all is not right. Through all of the evil and confusion of this world, the LOST STILL KNOW THAT THEY ARE LOST! It really doesn't matter what they outwardly say, their own heart still convicts them. They might not want their friends to know, but they will still sneak away from time to time to HEAR or READ GOD'S WORD. This is just one reason why the devil wants those BIBLES out of hotel and hospital rooms - and certainly OUT OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS. The devil knows all about the unquestioned POWER IN THE HOLY PAGES OF GOD'S WORD, and he doesn't want men to hear it.

Here's a beautiful TRUTH that's still just as beautiful and POWERFUL today as it was thousands of years ago. GOD HAS PROMISED THAT HIS WORD WILL NEVER RETURN VOID! IT WILL ALWAYS ACCOMPLISH HIS WILL AND PURPOSE! The entire LOST world is still hungry and DESPERATE for GOD'S WORD! If you post it here, they will come to read it. They might sneak away to READ OR HEAR GOD'S WORD because they don't want their worldly friends to know what they're doing. It doesn't matter how GOD'S WORD is distributed or transmitted - there are great hosts desperate to receive it! On the Internet, on radio, on television, on tapes, in movies, in Bible Tracts, and any way you can dream of - PEOPLE ARE DESPERATE FOR IT AND GOD WILL USE IT!

Love In Christ,
Tom

Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable GIFT, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour Forever!

Where ever you want it to show up you must first have a URL for it. In other words it needs to be placed in an online storage site similar to that of photobucket.

If you want it to show up below your user name then you need to go to your profile and click on 'Forum Profile Information' then check the 'I have my own pic:', copy and paste the URL into the box behind that and then click the 'Change Profile" button on the bottom.

If you are trying to put it inside of a post then while in the post box click on the Picture Icon (second button from the left above the smilies) and paste the URL in the format that comes up.

I use a freeware program called Faststone.

http://www.faststone.org/

It will do just about anything with pictures and graphics, and it's free with no strings attached. It will resize one picture at a time or a whole directory of pictures. So, resize the ones you want and also upload your resized pictures to your photo server under a different name. By the way, Faststone is easy to use and has great instructions. It's been around for a long time, and it's completely safe.

Tom

I just went to that page and looked. If you click the tab called thumbnail, it will show you the smaller picture. I'll guess that the extra "th" in the graphic address stands for thumbnail.

I don't know how to do it for IE but if you are using the Firefox browser you can click on View then click on Zoom. Then you have the choice of clicking on 'Zoom Out' or 'Zoom Text Only'

This is the method that I use.

I have IE, I'm using view text size - Largest & Zoom 150 percent.  That makes the images a little blurry but the font is better  ;D

Thank you  :)

Quick reply box.

In your profile, click on the Look and Layout Preferences.

Use quick reply on topic display.

Then in the drop down box Change that to show, on by default.

While you are there, you can set the time format, and time offset.

Then click on change profile.

For some reason I am having an  issue with posting a personal photo in my profile and also in posting a signature....it seems as though I can do nothing in regards to my profile.....so maybe I m doing it wrong or something....any help is appreciated.....thank you and God Bless.

Go to your profile and then click on "Forum Profile Information". Then click on the open circle next to "I have my own pic:" and then place a URL in the box following that. The picture has to be from an online source such as Photobucket so it has a URL.

For the signature scroll down from there to "Custom Title:  Signature:" and type it in the box following that. Then go to the bottom of the page and click on the "Change Profile" button. That should take care of it.

Here's a couple of links to explanations on how to post pictures and graphics that should help:

Posting Graphics (http://forums.christiansunite.com/index.php?topic=21461.0)

Adding A Picture (http://forums.christiansunite.com/index.php?topic=18125.0)

The most common problem is not having the photo or graphic available with an Internet address. A popular free service to use is Photobucket, but there are others. Regardless, this is the first step as it isn't enough to simply have the photo or graphic on your computer.

Ref. other changes to portions of your profile, I could only guess because I don't know what you're trying to do. Some areas like the signature area have a limit on the number of characters. If you go over the limit, it won't take it. You also have to click save changes - usually at the bottom of the screen. A less common problem is some people trying to use HTML in their profiles. The forum won't take HTML anywhere. The forum uses its own code for bold, italics, color, font, font size, etc. By the way, the forum has excellent and detailed "Help" - near the top of the screen - second button from the left. I hope this helps you.
