Hello ADMIN,

Brother, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your work. I think that I have more than just an idea about what all is involved in upgrading the forum software.

I'm positive that all of the Moderators and sweet Christians who use Christians Unite will help in any way that you need. This is very exciting, and I hope and pray that this new software will help us continue to glorify and praise God here.

Again, thank you for all of your hard work.

Love in Christ,
Tom

Brothers and Sisters,

There are all kinds of new things that are really neat. You do have to enable some of them in your personal preferences part of your profile.

YES, the quick reply function is really nice. Some of the new editor functions take nearly all of the confusion out of some of the format commands. As an example, you can just type your message normally, go back, highlight a portion of text you want bold, and hit the bold command key above. It's all automatic, and you don't have to worry about making the command first. The new editor is great.

In your profile, click on the Look and Layout Preferences.  Use quick reply on topic display. Then in the drop down box Change that to show, on by default.

Has anyone else had problems, opening new threads? I know a few times I've refreshed and have been kicked off, the forum. I talked yesterday with my ISP, and they told me, it wasn't at my end. Today, I tried for a little over an hour, to get back on the forum.

Dreamweaver,

:D  Brother, I did notice the new function that records the amount of time on the forum. However, there are so many new things that I doubt we've found them all yet.

I know that many of us have been excited about getting this new forum software for a long time, and now we have it - THANKS TO ADMIN! I can only speak for myself and say that I was having fun trying to check that everything was working and trying the new things. My conclusion is this software is fast, easy to use, and has all kinds of new features that are really nice.

Reference problems early this morning in getting on or using the forum, I also experienced problems. I checked several things with my firewall logs and determined there was something tying up the CU server. I suspect that it might have been something like spambots trying to harvest email addresses on the forum. Users that have been here any length of time probably know that ADMIN has the system set to deny any robot type device from getting any personal information on a single member here. I know this ties up system resources, and I don't know enough about servers to even guess if there is a way to stop these robot type information harvesters from tying up system resources. I would simply say that I'm happy that ADMIN is determined to protect the private information of users here. If it means delays from time to time, I would still want the private information protected. I know that some of these same things happen to HUGE SERVERS.

I was just thinking about a problem that I reported to ADMIN within the last couple of weeks. I thought that Christians Unite was completely down, but the problem was with a routing server between my ISP and Christians Unite. The problem lasted about 12 hours and had nothing at all to do with the Christians Unite server. I also reported this problem to my ISP and never got an answer back. Many people were using Christians Unite, but I couldn't get to it at all. I just wanted to point out that there are many variables that effect different users in different ways and some users aren't effected at all.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Hi Guys,

Last night, as well as the night before, all night long, Yahoo's hotjobs spider was crawling the site at the rate of about 25 pages per second, (yes, per second) and requesting the same pages over and over again. The bogged the server down completely >:(, and even necessary server functions, like back-ups, devotional mailings, etc. couldn't be done.

I have finally been able to ban them from the site. I did some searching on Google, and this isn't the first time that Yahoo has launched such attacks. I'm sure it won't be the last.  And they haven't answered my emails.

Ray

The new forum software is great, and I'm enjoying it more each day. The comments are the same from everyone I've talked to. It is simply slick, fast, and loaded with new features. Not only that, but everything appears to be much easier to use. It's a keeper, and my appreciation for all of your work is heart-felt.

THANKS

Brothers and Sisters,

Back to a serious note and the subject of this thread, I can't find a single thing that doesn't work perfectly.

The new forum software is fast as greased lightning, and greased lightning is pretty fast.  :D

The new functions are great, and I'm having a hard time deciding which ones I like the most.

That quick reply function is really sharp, and I LIKE IT!

I like the ability to read more than just the last 10 most recent posts. The old software was limited to 10, but this software probably goes to over 50, depending on the length of the posts.

There's also a quick command at the top for reading all replies to your messages and another quick command to read all posts since your last visit.

I don't know if I can describe this properly, but all of the format commands in the reply and compose editor are much easier to use.

The Help System on the old software was tiny and really didn't have a lot of information in it. The Help System on the new software is MASSIVE, well organized, and contains detailed information on nearly everything.

The new software has a spell checker, so that put our CU Spell Checker Police out of business.  :D

The personal preferences for viewing posts, private mail, and just about everything else is greatly expanded with many more choices.

We can have avatars now. YEAH!! By the way, ADMIN has just added a large selection of Christian Avatars to choose from.

There's a "News Box" on the top right that ADMIN can use to notify everyone about important changes or additions.

I love the new Private Mail (PM) functions. You can even set it to give you a pop-up window when someone has sent you a new PM.

In short, the options and features on just about everything are greatly expanded or enhanced, yet the speed of the forum software is MUCH GREATER! So, I think that the new forum software is a BIG WINNER! By the way, the name of the new forum software is SMF - Simple Machines Forum. The name of the old forum software was YABB SE. SMF is really just a name change and is from the same extremely talented group of software designers and coders. SMF was worked on for a long time, and it represents years of effort for a massive upgrade of YABB SE. The ADMIN's of forums all over the world participated with ideas and help for the upgrade.

I WOULD SAY JOB WELL DONE!!! - ESPECIALLY TO OUR ADMIN!!!

Romans 8:37-39 NASB  But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.  For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Don't feel bad. I had to ask also. Go to your profile, then click on "Look and Layout Preferences" that is on the left side. Then go to the "Use quick reply on topic display:" box and change it to "show, on by default". Then click on the change profile button. You will then see a quick reply box at the bottom of all the threads.

Hello Sincereheart,

:D  There are NO stupid people here. We are all intellectuals!

For the quick reply editor, you have to go to your profile settings and turn it on in your forum preferences. There are two settings for on - on continually for every reply and on at the bottom of the forum page so you can choose whether to reply with the regular editor or the quick reply editor. I like them both, but I do prefer the regular editor for longer replies. I think that most or all of the commands are available from the quick reply editor, and I really can't remember the specific reason why I set it to be on only at the bottom of the page. I first had it on continually. Some people would probably be perfectly happy with the quick reply editor on continually, but there is something that made me want a choice each time. I just can't remember, and that decision was less than two day ago.  :D  (Reference TV Advertisement) - Maybe I should have slept in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Where, I don't see no stupid people posting in this thread.

But to me, the only stupid question is, the one not asked.  So no question is stupid. ;D

Sincereheart,

Sister, right now I would say that we have a core group of really sweet Christians who love JESUS as the focus of their lives. We have some little squabbles from time to time, but the vast majority of what happens here is simply fellowship between Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Sister, it really makes me happy that you are back. You make that core group of sweet Christians stronger. The only thing that would make things better is more sweet Christians joining in with us who Love JESUS as the focus for their lives.

The key to good fellowship is simple and certainly not a secret:  Loving JESUS as a common denominator for all of us. Sister, I was just thinking about JESUS, how much I love him, and how so many other things are really not very important. I'm also thinking about the reality that all of the real Christians here are already united in the Eternal CHURCH which is the BODY OF CHRIST! I've been thinking about this beautiful reality more and more over the last several years, probably because it seems to shut out the problems of the world and put my mind in a positive perspective with JESUS as the focus for everything. These are all thoughts of JOY in JESUS.

I know that all Christians have problems of various types that place burdens on our hearts. Some of the problems involve our own health, the health of family members, and a huge variety of other human problems. I was just thinking about the writing of the Apostle Paul on this subject. The suffering of this current time are not worthy to compare to the Glory that will be in Eternity with JESUS. I know that these problems are real and they effect us in our daily lives, BUT, we have JESUS and all things are different for us with just a few thoughts and prayers. I fail to concentrate on the really important things far too often, and I would say that we all do. Just think about this beautiful old hymn for a few minutes, and everyone will understand exactly what I'm thinking about.

Jesus Paid It All

I hear the Savior say,
“Thy strength indeed is small;
Child of weakness, watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all.”

Refrain

Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.
For nothing good have I
Whereby Thy grace to claim,
I’ll wash my garments white
In the blood of Calvary’s Lamb.

Refrain

And now complete in Him
My robe His righteousness,
Close sheltered ’neath His side,
I am divinely blest.

Refrain

Lord, now indeed I find
Thy power and Thine alone,
Can change the leper’s spots
And melt the heart of stone.

Refrain

When from my dying bed
My ransomed soul shall rise,
crying “Jesus paid it all,”
Shall rend the vaulted skies.

Refrain

And when before the throne
I stand in Him complete,
I’ll lay my trophies down
All down at Jesus’ feet.

Refrain

Love In Christ,
Tom

Hebrews 11:1-3 NASB  Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

Dear Admin,

I'm not sure if this is a good way to get ahold of you, but I am wondering if it's ok to post a link to my Christian message board?

Hello yahssis,

Admin doesn't frequent the forum very often. If you look at the left hand column you will find a link to "Christian Classifieds" and another one to "Banner Exchange" or you can click on the "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page.
