Title: First Fruits
Post by: catty on January 09, 2006, 11:18:45 AM
Hi all,

I just want to get your thoughts on first fruits. Do you think we should follow this? Do you think it pertains to today's life? And exactly what should first fruits include?
I heard 2 people talk about this pass week. I wasn't sure what it was, because I don't remember hearing anyone preach on this. One lady in our church did first fruits and boy God has really moved in her life since she did this 2 weeks ago.

I firmly believe that "Firstfruits" are apart of todays life. Whatever you do with firstfruits governs the rest. And sets the pattern, or the promise to come, for the rest”. And all first things belong to God!

2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we, brethren beloved by the Lord, ought and are obligated [as those who are in debt] to give thanks always to God for you, because God chose you from the beginning as His firstfruits (first converts) for salvation through the sanctifying work of the [Holy] Spirit and [your] belief in (adherence to, trust in, and reliance on) the Truth.

Proverbs 3:9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase.

Resting in the hands, of the Lord.
Bob

Matthew 28:1 NOW AFTER the Sabbath, near dawn of the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala and the other Mary went to take a look at the tomb.

To add to what Brother Bob said ....

We ar told in:

2Ti 2:6  The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.

The thing that we must know here is who is the "husbandman" that is spoken of here. If we refer to the verse that Brother Bob gave (2 Th 2:13) we see that this is speaking of Jesus.

So yes I do believe that the first fruits is for today and that they belong to Him.

I am wondering what do you consider first fruits. Is it just money or do you think we should also consider or prayers, fasting and time as part of our first fruits? First fruits are suppose to be done the first week of the new year. Since I was not aware of this I am going to begin this week.
