Title: Arrested in Malaysia
Post by: JudgeNot on April 28, 2005, 10:20:16 AM
My prayer request is for Ricky Rupert and Zachary Harris – two men arrested for attempting to spread the Good News.  Their courage for Christ should be celebrated, and we should ask God to intervene in their determent and detention.  Their story:

JudgeNot,

Brother, I had no idea until recently how many are put in prison, beaten, tortured, and killed for JESUS every single day. I pray for hosts every day and give thanks that God allows us peace and safety to worship Him.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Psalms 124:8  Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

The main complaint falls under section 298(a) of the country's penal code, he said, which prohibits causing "disharmony, disunity, or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will, or prejudicing ... the maintenance of harmony or unity on grounds of religion."

Seem pretty laget to me. If a Muslim went to a Local Church here in East Texas, they would be LUCKY to have to cops called on them for disterbing the peace or Lotering! Most likely, the good ol' boys would roll up in there one ton dullies and beat the tar out of them. Personally, I would be rather unpleased with someone from another Faith that is the closest thing to a rival we have standing on my church doorstep, herassing us as we walk out! Sorry, guys, I'm going to have to side with the Muslims on this one, I too would call the cops and send those nuts to jail! :-\

Tibby,

That could apply to missionaries all over the world trying to point the lost to Christ. In fact, it will apply one day to the world, and Christians will be hunted, persecuted, imprisoned, and killed. Bible prophecy clearly foretells this, and it's already started. Bible prophecy also states that the death of hosts of Christians trying to share the Good News will never stop it. Regardless of how bad this world gets, there will always be many willing to die to share Jesus. The devil will never be able to stop it. Faith does come by hearing, and the Word of God will be given, regardless of how many armies stand against it.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Romans 10:17  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

If I'm in a foxhole, and a machine gunner starts firing at me from 100 yards, rushing the bunker with the machine gun is not the answer. They could have done it somewhere else. Doing it where they did it is just going to make people angry, of course they would get arrested. And because they did that, we have 2 less people out working for the kingdom of God!

Tibby,

I read the article again, slowly this time, and I see what you are talking about.

 ;)  CHARGE!

I'm just saying, there are smarter way to tell people abou the Gospel... The article talked about a few LEGAL ways to tell people about Christ. Why not use thoses? If the Gospel is really this great truth that we claim it is, I think it has the power to work THROUGH to laws of the land. I think I gog will make a way that DOESN'T involve ticking off the people you are tryign to save, making them even less interested in hearing you out next time... :-\

Many a machine gun nest has been destroyed by a person or persons rushing it. Sometimes it is quite effective.

The article does not tell everything about the laws in Malaysia. In Malaysia even if you witness in the "legal" ways if it involves a Muslim and the Muslim converts, then that person and the person that converted them can and will be imprisoned and sometimes killed.

Spreading the Word of God has always had its hazards are we to take the easy way out all the time. If we did then the Word would never get out.

from the article
"The constitution provides for freedom of religion; however, it recognizes Islam as the country's official religion and the practice of Islamic beliefs other than Sunni Islam is significantly restricted," the State Department says in its most recent report on global religious freedom."    So then Muslim citizens of that country have less rights than others.

"The state's attitude towards religions other than Islam has caused some confusion, most recently when a government minister declared in parliament early this month that the distribution of Bibles in the Malay language was illegal, as it could be construed as trying to spread Christianity to Malay Muslims."

"Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi then issued a statement saying while there was no ban on Bibles published in Bahasa Malay language, they had to be stamped with the words "Not for Muslims."

The solution might be to support internet ministries and satellite television  but that is not accessible to most people.

Muslims have been told that if they read the Bible, they will lose their faith.  That is true.

Muslim governments =  enemies of Christ

Yeah, at what cost? Go watch Saving Prvt Ryan and get back to me. Do you know how many men died at normady? Over 3,000 American boys went home in a body bag! Who is going to tell the widows and orphens that the head of their home died in an "effective" tactical manover? No, a Nuke is effective, a bum rush is just bloody. More meat for the grinder, is that it? Let's just run all of God Army through the Chain gun of Muslim legal systems till their is on one left to take the Bunker! People with the will to do true mission work are few and far between, and we don't need to be wasting them like this!

Thats right, it is just a small article, it doesn't give us the whole story from either angle, however, seeing as the article is clearly bias AGAINST Malaysia, it seems locgical to assume they would put up as many laws that would make Malaysia look bad as they could. Their is clearly spin in the direction of the Missionaries.

Thats right. Very hazardous! Like a fire. A fire is a hazard, but you're never going to see a firefighter just run in, in street clothes, by himself as if we was picking up a pizza! No, he has all the right gear, and a small army of people supporting him inside and out, to make sure he doesn't get hurt! Sure, things happen, but when you're doing something dangerous, it is a good idea NOT to do stupid things (like badgering people who hate you in front of their holy building, or running into a fire with jeans and a tee, without any support) and increase the danger! Some jobs require an amount of risk, which is why one needs to take that much, if not more, of an amount of percautions. And I think avoiding the Muslims place of Worship is not just a good idea, but a respectful thing to do! With Christians in these Muslim countries showing all this disrespect as those 2 did, Of course they arn't going to listen to us! We didn't respect them, why do they have any reason to respect us?

M, the Muslims veiw our Government as enemies of God. This idea you are expressing is the very same kind of mindset that fueled the attacks of 911. Mainstream Christianity holds a similer "if you read, you are in sin" policy for many different aspects of our own culture. I'm willing to bet the majority of Christian parents would not be to pleased to find a highlighted, note-filled Koran in their childs room, would they? How about a Satanic bible? How about a Book of Morons? What about one of L. Ron Hubbards books? How about the Book of the Dead? How about the Tao te Ching? The average Christian and Muslim parent would have the very same feelings about finding the holy book of another culture in their home.

hi this is my first time on this but i just had to comment on your stuff tibby. first i must introduce myself. i am the wife of one of the men that went to jail. i'm not even sure i should be writing here for safety reasons but i really think i should...
tibby you are making assumtions. you assumed that they were badgering people and shoving things in their faces. i can tell you they were not.  they answered questions and gave things that were requested. yes, i understand  your feelings about going to their place of worship, that was not their intention but just where they ended up. They were just sitting outside, not in the entrance, and people came up to them and began asking questions. not once were they asked to leave. you talk of private ryan, i'm not sure for what reason exactly, but i would gladly die for the gospel. If my death would cause more to come to Christ, so be it, I know where I am going, and I also know where those that do not believe are going. Do you believe in hell? Do you believe in it enough to share with people even if it  gives you a bad rap.  in america being labeled intolerant and such is the Devil's scheme to keep people's mouth's shut and its working. We do have a daughter and through out the whole time I spoke of her daddy as being an amazing man for Jesus. What the children believe is greatly what those around them lead them to believe. Yes, this has been hard, but the opportunities to share of my amazing  saviour has been immense. my husband got the opportunity to share the gospel with many many high ranking officials in the government. Those men were often moved to tears. Those in the jail, got to hear of Jesus and some believed.
This was not a waste. The situation in this country is grave.  We want people to at least be making a choice. We truly believe in what is written in the Word of God and for that we are driven. Suffering or not, i count it a priviledge. If you do write me back i'm not sure that I"ll be able to respond very quickly as life is still quite unsettled here. Bless you in your walk to becoming more like Jesus. K

Tibby,

Brother, it appears to be completely legitimate (i.e. Malaysia).

Ok, just checking before I poured sometime into this:

Good for you, marrying such a man. That is just where they ended up? I’d love to hear a rapist use that excuse. “I didn’t do anything wrong, I didn’t want to end up doing that, we where just cuddling, and that is where we ended up!” Or a murderer “He just got into a fight, I didn’t intend to kill him, it just happened!” Planned or not, they did they did, knowing full well what the consequences are.

Most everyone here would be willing to die for the Gospel, and that is admirable. However, I’m not going to do something I know I WILL get caught for, and maybe killed for, when my service to the kingdom can be used in a safer setting just as productively!

Yes, my own reputation is no consequence, however, the loss of the life of a soldier of chrism, working in a place where few Christians go to start with, is a waste of life. I am pro-life, which means I believe ALL life is precious. Everything from a ball of cells in your belly to a fully grown missionary, and when there is no need for either to die, I don't believe we should kill them, or put them in a place where they can and most likely WOULD be killed. They can do much greater thing on Earth while they are still on Earth!

It is THIS kind of attitude Christians have that make people not want to hear about Christ! What is so bad about tolerance? Christians are always bashing tolerance, putting it along the same lines as Political Correctness. It isn’t. Tolerance is about respecting the choice people have made, even if you don’t agree with it. People have the right to choose, that is a Bible principle! It isn’t our right to force them to change, we should show Tolerance toward them. Jesus show tolerance. He was so fun of Tolerance for others, we ate with sinners all the time, in their own home! What is so bad about Tolerance?

So, he got his foot in the door with a Muslim Government. I’m rather impressed. But this isn’t the issue. In fact, in my eyes, this makes has actions at the Mosque all that more fool-hardy! He has a foot in the door, he could change the Government, but then he does things like this that can get him killed, according to some of these death-obsessed Evangelical Martyrdom groups. Kinda hard to speak to the Leaders of the country when you’re in a pine box 6 feet under (If they even allow for a proper burial, that is). He should stick with the parts of his Ministry that take him places… other then prison.

This was not a waste.

So he turned the situation around, good for him, doesn't make his actions excusable, though.

I do not disagree with any of that. In fact, I strongly agree. However, I still believe that your husban and his friend needlessly risked their lives, going to a part of town they should not have, and getting arrested. Tell him to be more carefull!
