;D This is a fun thread.

Anyway, my fave animals are cats. I live with two felines, have another one that wanders in often, and some that wander in sometimes. I also like the big(ger) cats like the lynx, tigers, leopards etc.

Oh, and I love caterpillars. They are ust so cute! I like butterflies and moths as well.

I love just about any animal really but some bugs and all spiders make me go eeeeeeeeeeps!

Homing pigeons can track back to their homes from hundreds of miles away. So you take them far away and release them, and the one that gets home quickest wins.

Go to http://www.pigeon.org to find out more.

People tell me that doves and pigeons are almost the same bird...

Just an interesting note; Noah released a raven, and it never returned to the boat. Then he released a dove, and it came back twice...

I don't know that I have a favorite animal. I love them all, except snakes. I can't stand a snake. The only good snake is a dead snake as far as I am concerned.  ;D
I have had many kinds of animal in my life. I am one of those people that animals seem to trust and look to as a mother. When I was growing up in Central Oklahoma, the Game Wardens would bring me orphant animals they needed a Mother for. Other people did to. We lived a short ways from a nice State Lake. My Daddy worked on a marina at the Lake. There is no telling how many people he sent to our house so kids could see wild animals up close. Most were city kids who went nuts over all the different farm animals we had also.
I love all animals, I just like some better than others.  :D

Those pretty birds of prey are some nasty eaters.  ;D
I think the Redtailed Hawk and the Hoot Owl were nastier than the possums, racoons or the skunks. A caged Armadillo smells pretty bad to. I sure was glad to see several of my "Babies" get strong enough to be turned loose in the wild again.  :P

Hello HimAll4,

I think that's a good vote, and I would agree. This is one reason why I watch animal planet's "Growing Up" series. They are fascinating. The last one I watched was "Growing Up Leopard".

In terms of domesticated animals in the city, my favorite is puppies to own and kittens to watch.

I have heard a couple of lines on cats and dogs that are pretty true.
They say a dog loves you, but a cat loves themselves, on you.
It is also said that a person owns a dog and a cat owns a person.
I know I have a couple of dogs that love me to pieces. Our old almost 11 yr old tomless cat just lets us live with him in his house. 8)

My wife and I have an elderly dog who's been with us for 15 years. He just lost his 16 year old buddy. Both of them spent their lives just inches from either us or our kids. In fact, he's leaning up against my arm while I type this. As an individual, I think that dogs are much more affectionate, but many people disagree with that. All I can say is my experience with cats involved pain, and I'm almost sure that cat disliked us.   ;)

Many of the older dogs start doing some really funny things. As an example, our little dog almost sings when we pet him.

Hello Angel,

I know many people who love horses, and I think that I understand why, even though I've never owned a horse.

I do want to know one thing: how difficult are they to house train?   ;)

Hello Angel,

You didn't offend anyone - not even close. Christians are allowed to have some fun, and we aren't an exception. In fact, Christians should be the happiest people on the face of the earth. I think that all of us enjoy some fun and humor every day. If nothing else, it helps us get our minds off of big problems around the world for a few minutes.

Love In Christ,
Tom

i agree totally..  when the family are home the house is full of laughter.  me and the daughter often have tickle fights and take the mickey out of each other in a harmless way, her dad joins in and her mum stands laughing.

laughter is god for you anyway.  it gets the heart pumping which bringe oxygen to the brain, opens  arteries and makes you feel good.

Hello Carnation Blue,

I see that you are new, so WELCOME!

My wife and I love dogs also. We have a small 16 year-old mutt, but he thinks that he's full-breed registered royalty with the way that we treat him. I think that I know what kind of dogs you have, and we think they're cute. I must admit that we call them fur-balls since there just isn't much there except fur.   ;)   Believe me, I'm not making fun of your dogs, rather they are just tiny little things.

I hope that you enjoy the forum. I'm looking forward to reading your posts and having fellowship with you.

Love In Christ,
Tom

I like fish, they don't have to be trained, all you have to do is feed them and clean the tank once or twice a year.

Hello Debp,  I couldn't help but laugh about this because what little television I watch is news and Animal Planet. I've seen folks with all kinds of animals living in the house with them, including some really big ones. One of the funniest shows was about a Very Large pig living inside, but I must admit that it had really good manners, and it was house broken. It even ate at the table during meals.   ;D

I don't think that a cow will be that big of a problem for you. Please do keep us posted about what your landlord says and whether or not the cow lets you keep your bed. Those with good manners will just share things with you.   ;D

Oh, I can just see the eviction notice on the door right now.  :)  When Kathy, a neighbor, tries to feed the sparrows out front, the manager always seems to appear!  Of course, they do have a video tape camera watching the lobby.  So I don't think I can sneak a cow in....would be nice to have the fresh milk though.  ::)

Right....I didn't know bulls were that tall and huge!!  The farmer leading him didn't even "beep" to warn us.  :)

My mom got chased by a bull once when she was a young girl.  Her mom told her to go over a fence because she saw some good mushrooms over there.  Well, there was a bull in that pasture!  My mom went running for her life and back over the fence....she did get a long gash and still has the scar!  But, at least, the bull didn't get her.

Pastor Roger, thanks for letting me know cows have horns, too.  I told you I wasn't a country girl.  :D

Not a problem.   ;)    Coming from a long line of farmers I sometimes forget that others don't know these things as it is second nature to me. Most farmers de-horn their cows to prevent them goring each other. I helped my Aunt de-horn a number of hers. The fun one was the big brown swiss. She was one big cow and I had to use a step ladder to do it. She kept swinging her head around and knocking me off the ladder. My Aunt was cackling worse than a chicken calling her chicklets.

Oh dear....must have been funny to see.  :D

My mom (although an animal lover) didn't have much luck around farm animals apparently.  The Bandy rooster used to chase her and one time it jumped up on her back/neck.  Her dad made chicken dinner out of him after that event.  She also somehow got a bee in her hair and her dad had to take care of that, too.  Gee, maybe it's good I don't live in the country....could be hereditary!  ;D

We had banty roosters also. One of them also jumped on my back but made it's way up to my shoulder and perched there. After that he would perch there while I walked around and worked outside. I called him Charlie Wooster after the cook on Wagon Train because he was small and scrappy like him but inside he was really a loving character.

Are Banty roosters usually mean?  From what my mom said, it seemed like they were....or maybe they just had a mean one.

They lived in the country during the Depression so every Sunday her dad would kill a chicken for dinner.  He also had a small vegetable garden and there were fruit trees.  He was a disabled vet (got gassed in the war) and got a small pension.  After they had to move (their town and ten others in PA got covered by the Youghiogheny Dam), they moved back to Pittsburgh.

Not all banties are mean. I have seen other fullsized breeds that were meaner than most bantys. I guess the bantys get the rap of being mean because they are so small that sometimes they have to be really scrappy in order to survive, especially if there is a lot of bigger chickens around them.

One of my aunts had nothing but bantys. Her rooster was pretty complacent most of the time unless you entered the hen house and he didn't know you.

Hello Brother Joey,

That is a beautiful bird and a GREAT picture.

I've only seen birds like that close-up in zoos. My wife and I have seen a few eagles soaring in the wildlife refuge near us, but we've never seen them close. They are very graceful in flight and quite beautiful, but it shouldn't be forgotten that they are very powerful and dangerous birds.

It appears that hawk is looking at you and trying to decide if YOU are part of lunch.    ;)

Brother, you wouldn't believe how much seeing this bird blessed me. I was on a high all day. I love bird watching but its not everyday that you see a bird like this in the wild. And to have it in our garden was somethink else. I couldn't believe it when we opened our kitchen blinds that morning and saw this hawk. He had killed a pigeon and was really enjoying his breakfast.

We have a lot of birds here. Both Sparrow and Chicken Hawks are plentiful. I hadn't seen a vulture like in your picture but we have Turkey Vultures that can been seen flying overhead all the time. I have seen them up close out in the country. There are a lot of Eagles that can been seen down by the river front especially during the time of year that they migrate. There are also a lot of different types of owls. I climbed up into the hayloft on my sisters farm about 10 yrs ago and went face to face with a big barn owl. It startled me so much I almost fell backwards off the loft ladder. The owl just sat there and looked at me without twitching. It was probably laughing inwardly at me.

 :o    ;D

All it takes is seeing vultures circling me and I go home. If a group of vultures chased me, I don't know when I'd come out again.   ;D

My wife and I both love to watch wildlife, even the kinds that aren't so wild and dangerous. We keep feeders and water out in our back yard and really enjoy watching squirrels and a good variety of small birds. I was recently excited to get a few cardinals and blue jays in my yard.

We live within a 15 minute drive of a large wildlife preserve, and we go out there pretty often just to watch the animals. Neither of us know much about the tricks to see wildlife, so our refuge is a great place for newbies like us to see all kinds of things. They are all loose but completely protected by huge fines and a large ranger staff. As a result, they are really more dangerous because they have no fear of people. It's a peaceful place to go and simply enjoy GOD'S Creation for several hours. A picture like yours would be a once in a lifetime opportunity even in a refuge. Predatory birds just don't have much to do with people unless they're picking the last remaining meat off your bones.   ;D

I found an injured Red Tailed Hawk once at the end of my street (in L.A.!)  It was very windy (abnormal here) that day and it kept getting blown about by the wind and couldn't fly.  I called animal control and he picked it up.....said he'd take it to a vet and then it would be released.  He told me what kind of bird it was.  That was something for a city dweller like me.

Hello Debp,

You made me think of a neat story. Here, we have a lady known throughout the area as the "Bird Lady". She isn't a veterinarian and has no special schooling, but she's been helping wild birds recover for many years. She actually has licenses and permits to care for them inside the city limits and has an unusually high success rate. I've been in her house several times, and her life appears to be devoted almost entirely to birds. The house is full of all kinds of wild bird, and they are obviously well cared for. Most of them are returned to the wild without any problems, and those unable to adapt are taken to zoos. I think that they call her the "Bird Lady" because she might be part bird.   ;D  I've never seen anyone able to handle birds like she does. I think that she even speaks bird.   ;D

:D :D :D  Many years ago there was an elderly lady across the street who used to care for sick birds (mainly pigeons).  She also loved the stray cats and temporarily took in a momma cat that delivered a litter of beautiful long haired kittens.  Then she found homes for them....easier to do because they looked so extra pretty.  (I also was a stray cat feeder for many years....got them spayed/neutered with the help of a volunteer group....people would move and throw them out unspayed!)  Finally, the last stray died about a year ago....now I don't feed any new ones.  But the old timers that were thrown out, I felt sorry for so fed them.

I love eagles, I just love to watch them soar in the sky, it reminds me of the scripture, Isaiah 40:31  Isa 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

We have a lot of eagles and hawks as well were we live as a matter of fact there is a particular hawk that likes to perch right on top of the lamp post in front of my house, every morning I go out there to watch it and watch the eagles just soaring in the sky.

My all time favorite animal are birds. I love them all. I used to have 11 birds all different kinds and now I am down to 6. Dogs are nice too because they can protect you well and are just as good companions. We have dogs as well. Are friends ask if they can come over to our zoo house....

My favourite animals are dinosaurs.

I loved them when I was young but as I got older and learned more about God, I rejected dinosaurs. They didn't make sense and figured it was a hoax.

I do realize now that they did exist. I love them again!

My favorite animals are cats and dogs.  I have two indoor cats, who are brother and sister, named Max and Mya.  Max is the one with the personality, and Mya is the most cuddlesome of the two.  Max sleeps with me sometimes and can tell when I am not feeling good. My dog Ragan is also one gentle dog, a mixture of Chow and Golden Retriever.  I thank the Lord for my pets.

I love cats and my one dog!  I have four cats named Chris, Pris, Max, and Mya!  They are adorable and sweet animals who are tamer than a dog!  I have a wonderful dog named Ragan who is gentle and sweet!  Max, my male cat, is the smartest one though as he knows how to get free food and attention!
