Title: More news..tied to "Mr Euro unveils mid-east peace plan"
Post by: 2nd Timothy on November 07, 2004, 11:21:23 AM
Keeping in mind that Arafat has one foot in the grave, there is speculation about who will take the reigns of power in the PLO. One person who is mentioned quite a few times as of late is Palestinian Prime Minister, Ahmed Qureia. Have a look at these news clips.

Qureia has an easygoing style that has won him friendships over the years with his Israeli counterparts, especially with former Israeli negotiator Uri Savir.

In a 1997 book, "The Process: The story of Oslo from A to Z," Savir wrote of the warm relationship between the two men and their families. A picture in the book shows their daughters, Maya Savir and Mona Qureia together at Maya's wedding in Tel Aviv in 1995.

In July 1999, Qureia accepted an invitation to visit Israel's parliament, the Knesset, and met there with its speaker, Avraham Burg.

Qureia has long been at the heart of negotiations with Israel. He was the head of the Palestinian team in talks that led to the breakthrough 1993 Oslo peace accords, which gave birth to the concept of "land for peace" — Israel would return occupied lands in the West Bank and Gaza to Palestinian control in exchange for peace and security.

The accords laid out a framework of interim agreements that were to end with two states.

Qureia has had several heart attacks, the first one in the middle of a negotiating session with Israeli leaders in September 1995. Israel's Shimon Peres rode by his side in an ambulance that took him to an Israeli hospital. An emotional Qureia later thanked Peres and said he saved his life.

Now,

Guess who is pushing for this individual to take on more power?   I'll give you 3 guesses but the first two don't count? Thats right...............Mr Solona!

The EU's top foreign policy envoy Javier Solana, on a four-day tour of the Middle East, urged embattled Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to give his prime minister the powers to do his job properly.

"The message to Arafat is that we do want and we do recommend strongly that the prime minister should be empowered with his responsibilities, in the basic fields which are the pillars of a future state: security and economy," said Solana.

"I think that the manner to tackle the issue (of the Palestinian crisis) is having an efficient PM with power and abilities. What happened in the last few days is a very important signal and everybody should take good note (that) what is needed is order, law, good behaviour and vision for the future.

Double WOW!!!

We may be much closer than I thought. If Arafat dies, and Qureia takes over, it seems obvious Mr Solona would be very pleased. It has been widely speculated by many prophecy teachers that the Oslo accord could very well be the 7 year peace deal the Antichrist would confirm in the end times.   We could be on the verge of the beginning of the 7 year tribulation period which kicks off when the Antichrist confirms his covenant. Of course I could be reading too much into these things as well.....but it sure looks as though it could have prophetic implications if all this is correct.

Might be time to break out the jumping shoes and do some rapture practice in the back yard...lol   ;D

Only time will tell!  I will certainly be watching to see how this continues.

Maranatha Lord Jesus!

Another news article leaning in this direction.  Granted this is older news, but still has the same overtones I have been mentioning.

Palestinian prime minister says peace with Israel still possible by 2005
By DOUG MELLGREN Associated Press Writer
03/09/2004

OSLO, Norway (AP) - Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia on Tuesday said he believes it is still possible to reach a Middle East peace agreement by next year if Israel takes negotiations seriously.

Qureia said high-level delegations from both sides are meeting next week in hopes of preparing for a summit between the Palestinian leader and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

``We want a meeting,'' Qureia told a news conference in Oslo. ``If this preparatory meeting goes well, I hope the meeting with Sharon will not be (very far off).''

Qureia was in the Norwegian capital, the home of the tattered Oslo Accords between Palestinians and Israel, to meet top officials, including Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik.

Norwegians brokered months of secret talks that led to the 1993 Oslo Accords, and sought to nurture the process by awarding the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli leaders Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres.

Qureia, part of the negotiating team that reached the Oslo agreement, said he believed ``the spirit of Oslo and the spirit of the Norwegian people are still behind the peace process.''

He insisted the deal had not failed.

``The Oslo Accord is still in good health and is still the basis of what remains from the relations between the Israelis and Palestinians,'' he said.

Qureia said Palestinians remain committed to the agreement and argued that Israel's government is still bound by it ``despite all the violations.''

But the construction of an Israeli security wall on Palestinian land was a grave threat to the peace process, Qureia said, adding it could even destroy the chances for an independent Palestinian state living in peace with Israel.

``If the Israelis continue confiscating the Palestinian territories ... constructing the wall, and putting the Palestinians inside the wall, they kill the two-state solution,'' said Qureia.

Qureia said Palestinians still want an independent state, but added that Israel's actions might force them ``to look to other choices.''

Bondevik, appearing with Qureia, said he still believes the two-state solution is the best one.

Qureia also urged the diplomatic quartet - the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations - to do more to revive work on the internationally backed roadmap for peace, saying they held the roadmap's future in their hands.

``They initiated this initiative. They stand behind it and I hope now ... they will revive the roadmap,'' he said.

Qureia came to Norway after meetings in London with Prime Minister Tony Blair. During roughly 36 hours in Norway, he was to meet top officials, have an audience with Norway's acting monarch, Crown Prince Haakon, and hold a lecture at the Norwegian Nobel Institute.

Still watching!

I'm not much of one for putting dates, days, or even seasons on something...especially as it relates to the Lord's return.....

but....  ;D

Over the past several years, I've occasionally done a little figuring going back to Daniel, and the decrees to rebuild, and then plugging in the Jewish calendar, and a few other things, and so on.....

I keep coming up with two dates.....2011, and 2018.

If you subtract 7 from 2011, what do you get?

Keep your eyes on the skies, friends.  8)

Did you know that taking into account what some Jewish scholars believe is a missing 225 years (give or take 1 or 2) from the Jewish calendar, then this is year number 5993....and in 7 more years will mark the beginning of the 6th millennium....which, according to the sages, is when Messiah will establish His kindgom on this earth.

The ancient Toltec and derivative Aztec and Mayan calendars run in cycles of 3000+ years, and are now in their 5th cycle. Strangely enough, although they continued their cycles for 5 repeats, there is nothing shown after the end of the 5th cycle....and that cycle ends somewhere between 2011 and 2021.

30 years ago, when I would try to talk to another Christian (especially pastors) about how little time was left (this was what the Lord had impressed mightily upon me), about half would scoff..."oh, we've got plenty of time...", while the other half would say "I agree...I just feel like it's going to be anytime, now."

Today, while the impression of "close" is more pronounced among a few, there are even more who have the attitude "yeah? and where is the promise of his coming? Aren't things just the same now as they always have been?"

Sound familiar?

Like you I don't really get too much into date setting.   For me, its the reality of Daniel and Revelations coming to life before our eyes.   The signs are in every direction on the horizon....and I do mean everywhere.   The way I see it, someone is going to need to hit the pause button to prevent us from progressing into the tribulation period.  ;)

Grace and Peace!

Evangelist and 2nd Timothy,

We are told in the Bible that no man will know the time, not even the Son, only the Father. However according to the things we are told to watch for, the time does look mighty close.

I agree Pastor.  To clarify it says that no man knows the day nor the hour, but clear signs were given by Christ for us to look for his near return.   Jesus scolded the Pharisees for not being able to discern the times.   Of course I am not trying to debate or disprove your point....which is very good.   No date setting here, but we are told to watch for signs of his return.   Those signs are becomming more than extremely evident in current world events.  What we know is still yet to take place in future, is even looking realistic.

Again, not setting dates or times, but the prophetic skies are  red with signs of immanent weather.   The time is growing short....Praise God!  I am patient, but also anxious to see my Lord.   Tonight would not be too soon for me.

My hand is on the plow, but my eyes are on the sky!

Grace and Peace!
