Title: Bible Characters A-Z
Post by: 2nd Timothy on October 10, 2004, 07:52:36 AM
Lets try a new game.  This time, characters the bible in alphebetical order.  Must name the individual, then a short synopsis about them and where they are located in the bible.

First ones a given....

Adam.  First man God created.  Disobeyed God and caused the fall of man into sin.  Found in Genisis.

Gabriel is an angel (or archangel). He appears first in the prophesies of Daniel in the Old Testament. The angel announced to Daniel the prophecy of the seventy weeks. His name also occurs in the apocryphal book of Enoch.

Here is a great one..........

Isaiah
The son of Amoz, who was apparently a man of humble rank. His wife was called "the prophetess", either because she was endowed with the prophetic gift, like Deborah and Huldah, or simply because she was the wife of "the prophet". He had two sons, who bore symbolic names.
Isaiah probably lived to its close, and possibly into the reign of Manasseh, but the time and manner of his death are not specified in Scripture or recorded history.

There is no "Q's" I can find in the Bible. Nice thing about having a Bible on the computer. So with out futher ado.

Reuben
Although part of the plot to kill and later enslave their brother Joseph, it is Reuben who advises the others not to kill Joseph, see Genesis 37:20-22, and who later points out that their troubles in Egypt were the consequence of the plot.

Also.............
Reuben or Reuben sandwich is made with corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island Dressing on rye bread and then grilled or toasted. It may have been invented at Reuben's restaurant in Los Angeles, California, sometime between 1914 and 1930. East Coast delis may often substitute Russian Dressing for the traditional thousand island dressing. ;D

Nahum, was a prophet in the Bible Old Testament and Jewish Tanakh who lived some time around 750 or 700 B.C.

He was the seventh of the so-called minor prophets, an Elkogotcha2e. All we know of him is recorded in the Book of Nahum.

He was probably a native of Galilee, and after the deportation of the ten tribes took up his residence in Jerusalem. Others think that Elkosh was the name of a place on the east bank of the Tigris, and that Nahum dwelt there.

Rachel
In the Book of Genesis, Rachel is the second and favourite wife of Jacob and mother of Joseph and Benjamin. She is the younger sister of Leah, Joseph's first wife, and both are daughters of Laban.
Jeremiah 31:15 the prophet speaks of 'Rachel weeping for her children' (KJV). This is interpretted in Matthew 2:16-18 as predicting the Massacre of the Innocents, the slaughter of male Hebrew babies following the birth of Jesus Christ.

Tiberius

Tiberius is mentioned by name only once, in Luke 3:1 stating that John the Baptist entered on his public ministry in the fifteenth year of his reign. However, since it was during his reign that Jesus Christ preached, many references to him as Caesar.

Goshen
The Land of Goshen is a place in Egypt, as referenced in the Biblical story of Joseph. According to Genesis 46:31-34:

Then Joseph said to his brothers and his father's household, "I will go up and speak to Pharaoh and will say to him, 'My brothers and my father's household, who were living in the land of Canaan, have come to me. The men are Shepherds; they tend livestock, and they have brought along their flocks and herds and everything they own.' When Pharaoh calls you in and asks, 'What is your occupation?' you should answer, 'Your servants have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.' Then you will be allowed to settle in the region of Goshen, for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians."

Traditionally, the Israelites lived in peace in Goshen for 400 years, before they were taken by the Egyptians as slaves. Goshen is said to be located in northeastern Egypt, in the delta region of the Nile River, where it empties into the Mediterranean Sea.

Nahash,  King of the Ammonites in the time of Saul. The inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead having been exposed to great danger from Nahash, sent messengers to Gibeah to inform Saul of their extremity. He promptly responded to the call, and gathering together an army he marched against Nahash. "And it came to pass that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them [the Ammonites] were not left together" 1 Sam. 11:1-11
