Earthquakes

When they read Matthew 24:7, Mark 13:8, or Luke 21:11 some men foolishly observe, "We've always had earthquakes. How can this be a sign?" The Lord made this prediction around A.D. 30.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, from 1890 to 1930 there were only 8 quakes measuring 6.0 or larger. From 1930 to 1960, there were only 18. From 1960 to 1979, however, there were 64 "killer" quakes. And from 1980 to the present, there have been more than 200. Think of it! More than 200 major quakes in less than three decades—an earth rattling reminder that the Rapture is near.

Crimes against Humanity

Christ went on to say in His pronouncement of signs, "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold" (Matthew 24:12). What a portrait of modern-day America and the world!

The U.S. Justice Department reports that about 30 percent or more of the nation’s households are victimized by serious crime every year. The U.S. attorney general says that on average one of every sixteen American families is brutalized by violent crimes such as murder, rape, and aggravated assault. The FBI index also paints a grim picture, giving us the unsettling information that a murder occurs every twenty-four minutes, a forcible rape each seven minutes, a robbery every sixty-eight seconds, and an aggravated assault each fifty-one seconds. The total figures show that a violent crime is committed every twenty-seven seconds, a property crime every three seconds. Judge for yourself: Are things getting better or worse? The answer is obvious.

Yes, things sure are getting worse. I really can't imagine things getting much worse.

For the other bad news - I live in California, you know the state with all the fault lines. Now how brave or stupid (depending how one looks at it) can that be? ;)

I agree with you brozesnake,  but I've always looked at Mt24:12 to be speaking of the churches love growing cold.  I believe this vs is speaking of the condition of the church in the end times.  Also the word love is agape, in this vs,the only way we even can have this kind of love is thru Jesus.  That is why I come to this conclusion.

I believe the verse speaks of the condition of the entire world, because the proceeding verses (below) describe worldwide conflicts and desolation, also look at...  

Mat 24:9   Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.  


 This verse makes a distinction between Christians and those who would kill Christians. We will be hated and killed by the rest of the non-Christian world.

I believe we are seeing the begining of this hapening today. Islamic fundamentalists such as Bin Laden and many others have openly encouraged their followers to kill the infadels, and Christians are specifically listed. Also, Christianity is being attacked daily by athiestic groups and so called Christian groups, such as Christian homosexuals, who are lobbying the governments to make laws that would force Churches to marry them, and force Churches to stop preaching against homosexuality. Totally ignoring Christian freedom of religion. Can you imagine what would happen if the Muslims came under such attack?


    Mat 24:6   And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all [these things] must come to pass, but the end is not yet.  
   
    Mat 24:7   For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.  
   
    Mat 24:8   All these [are] the beginning of sorrows.  
   
    Mat 24:9   Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.  
   
    Mat 24:10   And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.  
   
    Mat 24:11   And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.  
   
    Mat 24:12   And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

If you back up to vs8 Jesus is speaking about the troubles that are to come upon believers, and this thought continues thru vs13.

I agree. These troubles are to come upon believers. Not "by" believers. The entire world is suffering because of evil, Christians and non-Christians suffer together. That's why the chapter goes into details that describe world conflicts and desolations. I don't believe the verses depict the condition of the Church exclusively.

I have always looked at these verses to be speaking about what will happen to the christians.  The world has already acted this way to some degree or another.  The vs I am talking about are 10,11,12.  Yes I agree with the earlier vs refering to the world.

 ;)He He,  I actually posted the last one before I had the chance to read your last one.  Thanks for the food for thought.  I still have a hard time understanding how the love of the world could grow cold when I feel the world can't possible have agape love.
