Title: how to parent an adopted son
Post by: musicllover on July 28, 2004, 11:04:32 PM
Hi all,
I need some suggestions. This sounds almost like a soap opera so I'll try to stick to the facts. I have a 4 year old cousin, who my Mom is going to adopt this year. I was going to adopt but something happened  and I'm still not sure what to make of that, anyway, there has already been a custody battle over him from his bio grandparents, so I am NOT going to put him thru that again. The trouble is, I feel like she is very jealous of any time he spends with me and my family. Discpline is a big problem too, we ALL need to be consistant with him but Mom is not a disciplinarian, one day she'll give him a swat or two, the next she won't, and complains if someone corrects him. My Mom has resorted to calling me over to help when he gets out of control. He can most defiantly put you thru the wringer. He calls my Mom, grandma,  I am "Mom" to him, my husband is "Dad" my children are his brothers and sisters......can anyone suggest how I might go about talking with my Mom on about this situation. Just how can we "share" this little guy with out having 2 different camps for him.......he gets by with murder there but not at my house type of thing. First pray, what else :-\
