Title: Addams Family or Munsters....
Post by: His_child on May 04, 2004, 09:48:08 PM
I've heard that there are two types of people in the world, Addams Family fans and Munster fans.
Which are you and why?

Oklahoma Howdy to Justme,

:D  I got to cast the first vote, and I voted for the Addams Family. You know that some of the younger folks don't even know what we're talking about, right?

I watched it every now and then because it was funny. However, I would have to say that Andy Griffith was my favorite comedy.

If you go back further in time, I would have to say Jack Benny or the Three Stooges.  Woo!  Woo! Woo!   ;D

I'm an Addam's Family fan too.
Besides, who can resist doing the finger snaps when the theme comes on?

My all time favorite shows would be either I Love Lucy, Dick Van Dyke or Andy Griffith.

I used to be a caretaker for a lady who had Alzheimers. I would take her to a restaurant near my house called the Mayberry Cafe. They have all kinds of Andy Griiffith stuff there and they played the show on about 25 different tvs. It may it nice to take her out to eat because she had the patience of a child and would get impatient waiting for her food to be served. Watching the show would keep her entertained and I didn't have to worry about her trying to steal other people's food.

Oh dear...I shouldn't laugh, that woman couldn't help her behavior, but that made me smile...

We're the Adams', so we've always had the "Addams' Family" as our theme...don't like the new movies that have come out, but the old shows were fantastic...

Definately Addams Family. Morticia is just so cool. :)
I like Cousin Itt too! Never got into the Munsters as much. I just thought Gomez & the Addams Family as a whole had much better 1 liners & sense of humor.

Speaking of Addams Family.......This pic is sorta uncanny & scary. Teehehe

I enjoy the Munsters, I see I am already out voted.
I do agree with blackeyepeas I rather watch the 3 Stooges, or the Marx Brothers.

Munsters/Addams Family.  I liked both for differing reasons.

I find the humor back then is better than what passes for most comedy now.  That's a shame.

Nateycakes - that pictures a Hoot!!!.

Blackeyedpeas - Who'se your favorite Stooge??

Oklahoma Howdy to WolfBrother,

It would definitely have to be Curly. He was a riot. Some of my favorite episodes all involve pie throwing, usually with the highly dignified getting a pie in the face.   ;D  Many of the older comedies never had any bad language or a hint of anything dirty. I don't know why we can't have a few comics like that today.

I did read about the creation of a new Christian television network that started on the East Coast. I can't remember the name of it, but the article said it was growing by the minute. It is variety programming with everything being completely clean and proper.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Wonderful programming.

Is Daystar available on SkyAngel?

The comedies of days gone by were much better.
Even the dramas of days gone by were better.

Addams Family still rules over the Munsters. I wish that TVLand would start showing both instead of just the Munsters that way people could see how much better the Addams Family really was.  ;D

Wonderful programming.

Oklahoma Howdy to DreamWeaver,

Yes, I think that's it. I understand that Christians hearing about it outside of the viewing area are asking their distributors for it. It is supposed to be spreading like wildfire. I'm sure that it will take some time to be available to the Southwest, but I bet that all Christians will want it.

Love In Christ,
Tom

I did have to download some of the Lurch "wavs". "You Rang" is one I plan to use in my next email to my two brothers. They love me, but I'm sure that they will retaliate.

UM??? - I wonder if there are any hanging "chads", insignificant dimples, ballot box stuffing, illegal votes, voter discrimination, voter harassment, or other voting irregularities????   ;D

Here's a REAL FUNNY:  Maybe we need the UN to investigate this vote.   ;D

HOWEVER, we haven't closed the polls yet, nor do we have a deadline to close the polls.   ???

Title: 'Grandpa Munster' Al Lewis Dies
Post by: Shammu on February 05, 2006, 01:55:03 AM
'Grandpa Munster' Al Lewis Dies :'(

By LARRY McSHANE, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 2 minutes ago

NEW YORK - Al Lewis, the cigar-chomping patriarch of "The Munsters" whose work as a basketball scout, restaurateur and political candidate never eclipsed his role as Grandpa from the television sitcom, died after years of failing health. He was 82.

The actor was widely reported to have been born in 1910, but his son Ted Lewis said Saturday that his father was born in 1923.

Lewis, with his wife at his bedside, passed away Friday night, said Bernard White, program director at WBAI-FM, where the actor hosted a weekly radio program. White made the announcement on the air during the Saturday slot where Lewis usually appeared.

"To say that we will miss his generous, cantankerous, engaging spirit is a profound understatement," White said.

Lewis, sporting a somewhat cheesy Dracula outfit, became a pop culture icon playing the irascible father-in-law to Fred Gwynne's ever-bumbling Herman Munster on the 1964-66 television show. He was also one of the stars of another classic TV comedy, playing Officer Leo Schnauzer on "Car 54, Where Are You?"

But Lewis' life off the small screen ranged far beyond his acting antics. A former ballplayer at Thomas Jefferson High School, he achieved notoriety as a basketball talent scout familiar to coaching greats like Jerry Tarkanian and Red Auerbach.

He operated a successful Greenwich Village restaurant, Grandpa's, where he was a regular presence — chatting with customers, posing for pictures, signing autographs.

In 1998, a ponytailed Lewis ran as the Green Party candidate against incumbent Gov. George Pataki. Lewis campaigned against what he said were draconian drug laws and the death penalty, while going to court in a losing battle to have his name appear on the ballot as "Grandpa Al Lewis."

He didn't defeat Pataki, but managed to collect more than 52,000 votes.

Lewis was born Albert Meister in upstate New York before his family moved to Brooklyn, where the 6-foot-1 teen began a lifelong love affair with basketball. He later became a vaudeville and circus performer, but his career didn't take off until television did the same.

Lewis, as Officer Schnauzer, played opposite Gwynne's Officer Francis Muldoon in "Car 54, Where Are You?" — a comedy about a Bronx police precinct that aired from 1961-63. One year later, the duo appeared together in "The Munsters," taking up residence at the fictional 1313 Mockingbird Lane.

The series, about a family of clueless creatures plunked down in middle America, was a success and ran through 1966. It forever locked Lewis in as the memorably twisted character; decades later, strangers would greet him on the street with shouts of "Grandpa!"

Unlike some television stars, Lewis never complained about getting typecast and made appearances in character for decades.

"Why would I mind?" he asked in a 1997 interview. "It pays my mortgage."

Lewis rarely slowed down, opening his restaurant and hosting his WBAI radio program.

He also popped up in a number of movies, including the acclaimed "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" and "Married to the Mob." Lewis reprised his role of Schnauzer in the movie remake of "Car 54," and appeared as a guest star on television shows such as "Taxi," "Green Acres" and "Lost in Space."

But in 2003, Lewis was hospitalized for an angioplasty. Complications during surgery led to an emergency bypass and the amputation of his right leg below the knee and all the toes on his left foot. Lewis spent the next month in a coma.

A year later, he was back offering his recollections of a seminal punk band on the DVD "Ramones Raw."

He is survived by his wife, Karen Ingenthron-Lewis, three sons and four grandchildren.

I loved both shows but really loved The Adams Family. Always thought it would be cool to be Wenesday. I also think that Grand Ma Ma was better than Grandpa on the Munsters but that's JMO ;D

I live in Michigan and Farmington Hills they have a resturant called Mayberrys and they have all kinds of Andy Griffith stuff too and pictures on the wall. The food is really good but the staff sucks. :P

I voted for the Addams Family but it was hard as I love them both.
But my favorite cartoon is Futurama. They call the time that Fry is from - the late 20th Century to the 21st Century - the Stupid Ages.
If you think about it they're right. We do live in the Stupid Ages.

*note - Futurama is rated M for mature

Some other fun choices:

Bewitched or Jeannie?

Green Acres or Beverly Hillbillies?

Brady Bunch of Partridge Family?

Jay Leno or David Letterman?

60 Minutes or 20/20?

Law and Order or CSI?
