Title: Renting DVD Edited Movies?
Post by: OldTimer on May 15, 2003, 07:22:53 AM
Have you heard of this new service that offers movies on DVDs that have been edited to remove offensive language, nudity, violence, etc.? The link is: http://www.CleanFilms.com

What do you think of this idea? It first sounds great but will it promote more pornographic films as it gives the industry a wider market for distribution? Your thoughts?

I've worked at Blockbuster for sometime now, and I think it is a bad idea. No one has EVER called to see if the can get edited DVDs. And we get some stupid calls. Sevreals a night, people ask about Wide or Full Screen versions, but never a call about edited DVDs. The idea is good, but it will never catch on. Frankly, no one cares anymore.

I noticed The Patriot was there. This brings up a bigger problem. Now tell me, who desides what is taken out? The Patriot is full of "Graphic Voilance" but we would miss the whole plot if we take those seens out. Think about the seen where he finally tells his son the story of his past, of the brutal genocide in the French and Indian War. That is a MAJOR peice of the plot, but it is so gory and graphic, I would hate to be the guy who desides to takes that out!

These Editiors/producers/writers make these movie like they did, it is their Artistic right, and they didn't mean for childern to watch them! If you don't like the things in the movie, then boycott it! Buying the video only shows you are ok with the Sex and voilance, and they will feel comfortable with making more similar movies.

Actually, the idea of edited movies has been around for quite a while.  There are several places that rent edited movies.  Cleanflicks has stores in 13 states (mostly the mountain west), FamilyFlix has stores in Arizona, Flicks Club has a store in Utah.  In addition, you can also have places edit your own R rated movies for you.  The lowest priced and best quality service is Webster's Edited DVDs:  http://www.ldsresources.net/DVD  This is by far the best service I've seen for edited movies, and the lowest priced as well.

simple answer....CleanFilms rents movies.   Whereas, Webster's Edited DVDs allows you to have movies that you already own edited or even have them purchase the movie and edit it.  Besides, they are priced 20-30% lower prices than anywhere else that does movie edits.  Why not go to:

http://www.ldsresources.net/DVD

If you're looking for edited movie rentals rather than owning your own edited copy, then go to CleanFilms, otherwise, check out the link above.

Well Jessica, you are very wrong. We'll let the people be the judge. Your only posts here have been to push your DVD site. Just a quick glance of your site shows that the prices are much higher.

By the way, blatant advertising here is not banned, but is not welcomed, especially when your only agenda here is to advertise.

Excuse me???  You call yourself a "Christian" when you're accusing me of being wrong???  Take the beam out of your own eye first, then maybe you'll be able to see more clearly.

First of all, I'm not advertising my site since it is not my site.  My name is Jessica Smith.....I don't see any correlation with Webster's Edited DVDs.  Besides, your the one advertising and pushing for Cleanfilms since you would profit by people going there.  Second, I merely posted to let the originator of this thread know that there are other places besides CleanFilms that have better quality and lower prices.  Third, I challenge you to find place that does edited movies for a lower price than Webster's Edited DVDs and at a better quality.

By your previous post, you have only shown your own ignorance and pride.  But as you say, let the people be the judge!

My ignorance and pride thinks that maybe you and all the other users of this forum may profit more by helping this forum to survive, rather than wasting your time looking for beams.

I don't agree with editing movies, because I have too much respect for the filmmakers.  If there is a scene in a movie that offends you, just skip over that scene, or don't watch the movie at all!

Perhaps I'm too simple, but if the movie was originally offensive, would cleaning it up make it worth the time to watch it?  Just a thought...

Yeah, movies like Titanic, you can cut all the offensive parts, but the theme of adultery is kind of vital to the plot. I wonder how they would edit pulp fiction... ;D

Buying the video only shows you are ok with the Sex and voilance, and they will feel comfortable with making more similar movies.

Very true. And then if a friend stops by, who knows if you have the edited version or not. There's always the question of making someone else stumble. And, why should the original company that made the offensive version get paid for putting out this stuff, from people who are looking for clean movies?

I agree. The concept sounds good at first, but in the end it only cuts off boycott power. So, we're really weakening our own position.
