Title: Awake
Post by: Shylynne on March 19, 2004, 07:35:05 AM
I  love the truth found in this short poem!

Awake

One man awake, awakens another.
The second awakens his next-door brother.
The three awake can rouse a town,
By turning the whole place upside down.

The many awake can make such a fuss,
It finally awakens the rest of us.
One man up with dawn in his eyes,
Surely then multiplies.

by Lawrence Tribble

Mat 18:19  Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven

I often say my prayers, but do I ever pray?
And do the wishes of my heart, go with the words I say?
I might as well kneel down, and worship gods of stone,
As offer to the living God, a prayer of words alone.

2Ch 7:14  If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

The weary ones had rest, the sad had joy
That day, and wondered ‘how.’
A ploughman  at his work had prayed,
‘Lord, help them now.”

Away in foreign lands they wondered how
Their simple word had power.
At home, the Christians two or three had met
To pray an hour.

Yes, we are always wond’ring, wond’ring ‘how’:
Because we do not see
Someone, unknown perhaps, and far away,
On bended knee!

Unanswered yet? The Prayer your lips have pleaded
In Agony of heart these many years?
Does faith begin to fail; is hope departing,
And think you all in vain those falling tears?
Say not the Father hath not heard your prayer;
You shall have your desire sometime, somewhere.

Unanswered yet? Though when you first presented
This petition at the Father’s throne,
It seemed you could not wait the time of asking,
So urgent was your heart to make it known.
Though years have passed since then, do not despair;
The Lord will answer you sometime, somewhere.

Unanswered yet? Nay, do not say unanswered,
Perhaps your part is not yet wholly done,
The work began when first your prayer was uttered,
And God will finish what He has begun.
Keep the incense burning at the shrine of prayer,
His glory you shall see sometime, somewhere.

Unanswered yet? Faith cannot be unanswered;
Here feet are firmly planted on the Rock;
Amid the wildest storms she stands undaunted,
Nor quails before the loudest thunder shock.
She knows Omnipotence has heard her prayer,
And cries, “It shall be done sometime, somewhere.”

Yes, there's a power which man can wield,
When mortal aid is vain;
That eye, that arm, that love to reach,
That list'ning ear to gain.
That power is prayer, which soars on high,
Through Jesus, to the throne,
And moves the hand which moves the world To bring deliverance down.

Ooh! Good stuff!  :D

I really like this part:

One man awake, awakens another.
The second awakens his next-door brother.
The three awake can rouse a town,
By turning the whole place upside down.
