Title: TOP TEN REASONS FOR JOINING THE CHOIR
Post by: tony on March 12, 2004, 11:45:20 AM
 ;D
#10  You’re running out of clean clothes and the choir robes save on laundry.
#9  You’ve just been selected for jury duty and want to get used to sitting with a group of people.
#8  Your church is so full you want to ensure that you always have a seat.
#7  The collection plate is never passed to the choir.
#6  There’s a clock at the back of the sanctuary and you want to be the first to know when it’s 12:00.
#5  The preacher is new and you want to be close by in case he says something heretical.
#4  For years you’ve wanted to know who sits in the back pews but were always afraid to turn around.
#3  You’ve been known to nod off during the service and don’t want the pastor to catch you.
#2  The chairs in the choir are the most comfortable in the sanctuary.
#1  Your favorite move is Sister Act!
 ;D

Baptists, too. Those big wooden crosses in front of Baptist church, they don't symblize Jesus, they are for the Preachers who haven't let them out by 12:05 ;D

Tibby,

I suspect those crosses could symbolize more than one thing.  If I were a Baptist preacher… the last thing I would want is the congregation pulling out the nails and hammer…lol… ;D ;D

LOL! Won't work for me, our church is to small to even have choir robes!  :P

Sincere Heart,

Maybe a generous soul will donate the funds necessary to purchase new robes…lol!  Do you need a tax write off?  Does ANYONE need a tax write off?   ;)

Your Brother in Christ,

Tony

ROFL! The choir is a motley crew that just wouldn't look right in robes!  ;D I just can't imagine gettin' the farmers to wear them!  ;)
And no, I'm not in there.... My 'joyful noise' is just too much of the noise part!  :-X

So would it be safe to say that you sing back up...  ;Dthat is back up support from the comfort of the congregational church pews?  Singing so lo... oops... that is so low that no one can hear you? ;)

Comfort? ROFL! Them hard pews AIN'T comfy!  ;) But I don't sing so low! I sing joyfully - my noise IS joyful!  ;D

Bet the rest of the congregation would be willing to take up a love offering to get me to sing way low, though!   :-X

Sincereheart,

…lol… :D

Amen to the uncomfortable pews.  I think God inspired a few men to build these.  Knowing, as He does, that too much comfort would lend itself to sleep, which still happens on occasion even setting in the harder/less padded pews.  I have heard of collections being taken up for missions, building funds, families going through crises… but never to quite a fellow Church member… You may be on to something though.  It could be a good way to earn some extra cash on the side…lol
 ;)

I joined my school choir purely and simply because, at Christmas, we got to sit in the choir stalls at church. This had two advantages:

1) We did not have to listen to the interminably long and boring sermon.
2) We could talk, and no one could hear us ;D

It was a coveted duty, the choir.

I wonder if I can earn enough to at least supply groceries? I'll have to check into it!  ;D

Dry sermons... I have heard or should I say wish I had not heard of few of those... :)

lol... I have set on both...(the padded and unpadded) not at the same time of course... ;D  Even the padded ones can become uncomfy... especially as the clock begins to hit the 12:30 mark!!!  I can relate to the grocery thing... God does expect us to have our priorities!  It is better to have a full stomach and tired tush, which will recover in due time...lol... ;D

No, it was the way the church was built. With the...eagle-thing in front of, to the right and above the congregation it meant that those of us behind the rood screen (which is why no one could see us) actually had a wall between us and the vicar, because of the funny angle. We could have just heard if we'd wanted to - but we never did.

I sometimes think interesting sermons are just a myth. At school all we ever heard were weird ones of the "I met a disabled woman today, she taught me how to bang my head, isn't that a wonderful lesson?" type, performed by drunken vicars after our cash or just droning on and on about nothing in particular.

The school rabbi now, he was interesting. Even if he did tell us off for not pronouncing Hebrew correctly. :)

My top ten reasons for joining the choir were inscribed by the finger of God on a pair of stone tablets...

LOL! All the more reason to join! You can concentrate on the 'joyful noise' part and not let the vanity of how you sound get in the way!  ;D
