IN BRIEF
Trump Mulls Ending Birthright Citizenship via EO1

Thomas Gallatin

“We’re the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United State for 85 years with all of those benefits,” President Donald Trump declared in an interview with Axios2. “It’s ridiculous,” he added, “and it has to end.” Trump then announced his plan to issue an executive order to cease allowing “anchor babies,” the current practice of recognizing automatic birthright citizenship of children born in the U.S. to illegal aliens. With recent reports finding that illegal-alien births are now costing U.S. taxpayers a whopping $2.4 billion3 annually, and with three caravans of illegals headed to the American border, is it any wonder that Trump is seriously seeking to address this growing problem?

Anticipating objections to the legality of the executive order, Trump pushed back, saying he was “always told … that you needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? You don’t.”

Axios was quick to challenge Trump’s assertion that the U.S. is the only country allowing birthright citizenship by noting that at least 30 countries still do so, but Axios glaringly omits an important qualifier (admittedly a qualifier that Trump himself should have noted): No other developed nation continues to accept birthright citizenship. Canada ended the practice4 in 2009, leaving the U.S. as the last holdout.

Whenever any objections to birthright citizenship are raised, proponents quickly point to the 14th Amendment, arguing that it is a constitutionally protected right. But as Mark Alexander has previously explained5, “In the very words of the 14th Amendment’s authors … ‘subject to the jurisdiction thereof’ clearly and plainly referred to those who were legal citizens. It did not and never has implied any legal standing for the children of illegal immigrants. … The 14th Amendment makes no birthright allowance. Our Constitution’s Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4 gives Congress the power to determine qualifications for citizenship, and Section 5 of the 14th Amendment does likewise. Start by amending Section 301 of the Immigration and Nationality Act to clarify those classes of individuals born in the United States who are not eligible for citizenship by virtue of birth.”

So does Trump have the executive authority to make this change? Axios is correct in noting that there will certainly be legal challenges should Trump issue the EO. But that may be exactly Trump’s intention — to force the courts to weigh in and provide greater legal clarity on an issue that has long troubled many Americans.

ALEXANDER’S ANALYSIS
Is the Leftmedia’s Incendiary ‘Fake News’ the ‘Enemy of the People’?6

Mark Alexander

Last week, Donald Trump7 was blamed by a broad swath of the Demo/Leftmedia8 for using language that incited the threat of violence. The Leftmedia claimed Trump’s words inspired a bankrupt Democrat-hating sociopath9 criminal, who was living in a van plastered with pro-Trump and anti-Democrat stickers, to mail hoax bomb-threat packages10 to 15 notable Democrats.

After the quick arrest of that sociopath, The New York Times ran with the headline “A Fervent Backer Of Trump Is Seized In Pipe Bomb Spree.” The Washington Post went with “Bomb Suspect Outspoken Supporter of Trump.”

Recall that in June 2017, one of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’s socialist sycophants11 attempted and almost succeeded in murdering a field of Republicans12. But there were no NYT or WaPo headlines declaring the assailant was “A Fervent Backer” or “Outspoken Supporter” of Sanders.

A day after the arrest of the maker of the fake bombs, a self-styled neo-Nazi sociopath murdered 11 mostly elderly innocents13 during a bris ceremony at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh. Six people were wounded, including four police officers. The assailant was wounded and captured.

In contrast, Barack Obama14, who failed to call the numerous domestic Islamic terrorist hate crimes on his watch what they were, Trump responded to the Pittsburgh attack with resolve: “This evil anti-Semitic attack is an assault on all of us. It’s an assault on humanity. It will require all of us working together to extract the hateful poison of anti-Semitism from the world.”

Trump continued: “Anti-Semitism and the widespread persecution of Jews represents one of the ugliest and darkest features of human history. The vile, hate-filled poison of anti-Semitism must be condemned and confronted everywhere and anywhere it appears. What unites Americans is our common destiny. We mourn for the unthinkable loss of life that took place today, and we pledge in their name to fight for a future of justice, safety, tolerance, morality, dignity, and love. We must all rise above the hate.”

In the days before the Pittsburgh assault, the assailant condemned Trump for being a “globalist” and accused him of being under the control of Israel. Trump is the most pro-Israel president since Ronald Reagan15. Trump has always held Jewish people in high esteem, and notably, his son-in-law Jared Kushner is, himself, the son of a Holocaust survivor. Jared and his wife Ivanka are raising Trump’s grandchildren in the Jewish faith.

That notwithstanding, as President and Mrs. Trump prepare to visit with the families of the Pittsburgh victims, the Leftmedia set about to blame Tump for the Pittsburgh attack, as they did the hoax bomb threats.

Responding to that disgraceful “yellow journalism,” Trump fired back in his brash rhetorical style: “There is great anger in our country caused in part by inaccurate, and even fraudulent, reporting of the news. The Fake News Media, the true Enemy of the People, must stop the open & obvious hostility & report the news accurately & fairly. That will do much to put out the flame of Anger and Outrage and we will then be able to bring all sides together in Peace and Harmony. Fake News Must End!”

When Trump says “fake news” is the “enemy of the people,” he means the enemy of the Liberty16 that has sustained our Republic since its inception. But Leftmedia protagonists have no idea what that means.

In response, MSM talkingheads are condemning Trump for daring to suggest their words incite fear, anger, and disunity17, which is all the Left has to offer. According to the Leftmedia hypocrites, the only words that matter are those from Trump, not their own nonstop incendiary rhetoric.

Regarding Trump’s MSM callout, distinguished journalist Brit Hume observed, “I don’t think the press is the enemy of the people but I do think the mainstream media have proven themselves to be the enemy of Trump. … There has been more bad and biased reporting such as I have never seen in the 50 years I have been in this business.” (For the record, The Washington Post has never in its history endorsed a Republican for president, and the last Republican endorsed by The New York Times was 1956.)

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders responded to the MSM objections saying, “You guys have a huge responsibility to play in the divisive nature of this country when 90% of the coverage of everything this president does is negative. … Despite the fact that the economy is booming18 [and] the president has been delivering day in and day out19, I think it would be nice if every once in a while you could focus on some of the positive things.”

Grassroots Americans20, those outside the Beltway and New York media echo chambers, understand Trump’s condemnation of abject Leftmedia bias.

Last June, after the MSM condemned Trump for saying, “Our country’s biggest enemy is the Fake News,” we noted21 that we founded The Patriot Post because of the danger to Liberty posed by the Leftmedia monopoly on public opinion.

The Patriot Post is solely reliant on the support of our readers22, who know our news analysis doesn’t parrot Beltway groupthink.

GOOD NEWS

Iranian Immigrant Starts GoFundMe, Raises Nearly $1M for Jewish Victims37
An Iranian immigrant decided to send a message of unity following Saturday’s horrific, anti-Semitic shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue, setting up a GoFundMe for victims of the attack, and raising hundreds of thousands of dollars overnight. “Every time something happens,” he said, “I am reminded of how great this country is.”

It’s hard to overstate how much this reflects the American Spirit.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Cal Thomas: “While many in mainstream media deplore everything for which the right stands, I think they secretly enjoy the conflict because it boosts ratings and sells newspapers. Conflict always attracts a larger audience than comity, but that is no excuse for contributing to the conflict. Our anger at government and politicians solves nothing. The country is divided. It has always been that way. The focus should be not on winning a war of words, which is impossible so long as the name-calling continues; the focus should be on winning the battle of ideas and what works best in promoting the welfare of most Americans. If that sounds naive in our polarized environment, what would you suggest? Clearly, what we are engaged in now isn’t working. As the late Glen Campbell sang, ‘Try a little kindness.’ It’s better than sending bombs through the mail. It’s also better than behaving rudely in restaurants.”

In Washington, they have racked up enough indictments to field a football team. Nobody in my administration got indicted.” —Barack Obama (Left unmentioned: Eric Holder, whom the House held in contempt, and David Petraeus, a convict who was careless with classified information.)
