Title: Give Your Heart To Jesus!

Give Your Heart To Jesus

Back during the mid 70's my parents moved from Mobile Alabama, to North Highlands California, (Near Sacramento). and not long afterward my mother began to teach Sunday School in the local Bapt6ist Church!

During her tenure as a Sunday School Teacher she was well loved and respected by all of her students!  That is, all but one of her students!

It seems that there was one little girl (of pre-school age). who had come for a few weeks and now was not coming any more!  A Thursday evening visitation team was sent to investigate why, and it seems that the little girl was terrified of my mother, believing that my mother wanted to cut her heart out!   Probing a little further it was discovered that my Mother's exact words had been "Give Your Heart To Jesus!"

The Visitation Team then explained that it was not the organ that pumps blood that my Mother was referring to, then continued to explain about letting Jesus Come Into Your Heart!  To make a long story short, the little girl understood the explanation, and realizing that she had nothing to fear, promised to start coming to Sunday School again!

A few days later the Pastor came by and explained all that had happened!  My Mother was totally embarrassed, but the Pastor in a loving way explained that she was no longer living in the Heart of the Bible Belt, and that most of the local population had little or no reliigeous training and would not know when to distinguish between what was literal, and what was figurative!

He then assured Mom that she had nothing to be ashamed of, but in the future she should be a little more cautious about her choice of words!

I tell this story simply to emphasize the point that as we interact with the World, or with each other, we should keep it Scriptural, and we should keep it simple!
