Oklahoma Howdy to Sister Reba,

:D  That's an excellent question. We were faced with two opposing forces:  (1) the Forum Rules; (2) those who wish to have a warm or hot debate that the rules don't allow. The "Debate Area" was a compromise, in hopes that all of the broken noses, blackened eyes, busted teeth, and mangled body parts would be isolated to here.   ;D

We realize that you might have to trip over hair, teeth, and eyeballs to get in here, and we also realize you may not make it out alive, but at least everyone was warned.   ;D

By the way, we don't recommend the Gladiator Cafe across the street.   ;D

Love In Christ,
Tom

I'd be very interested to know what rules (if any) do still apply in here.   The guide say "only the obvious...", but it sure isn't obvious to me.

I am sure that the Moderators enforce the rules of the use of profanity (in case anyone is slipping a little  ;)  ), no racist comments and the like.  But may relax the rules a bit on the more personal comments and such...or may not.

I think the a point of the debate section is also a good place to have topics that have been derailed to be placed.

Oklahoma Howdy to Ebia,

The obvious is listed as language and topics, so you can't curse while teaching Voodoo, etc.

There are some fairly hateful and abusive comments made in some of the hotter debates. This is an experiment right now, and I'm sure there will be reasonable limits, and we'll know what those are if they are reached. In other words, threads that should have been deleted completely were placed here under an experimental basis. The same topics that are banned on the rest of the board are banned here.

If threads go too far here, I assume that ADMIN will direct the thread  or threads be deleted and reconsider the experiment. I guess the primary factor will be how reasonable folks are willing to be. Here's a possible analogy:  if you throw mud-balls, make them soft and small - you can't put a rock in the middle of the mud-ball.  ;)  I bet this is as clear as mud.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Oklahoma Howdy to Tog_Neve,

You are partially correct. Profanity, cursing, swearing, gutter language, or whatever else some might call it is not allowed anywhere on the forums, including here. Rude and hatefull is the biggest part of the compromise (i.e. calling someone a liar, nitwit, dim-bulb, one fry short of a happy meal, etc.).

The same topics banned from the rest of the board are banned here. Christians Unite will not provide time or space defending or promoting  immoral acts, immoral lifestyles, teachings that are contrary to the Holy Bible, etc. Sexually oriented material is obvously banned. If you read the forum rules, you'll be pretty close. If you wouldn't want children to read it, it doesn't go on Christians Unite.

This is an experiment. We'll have to see what develops.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Pins?  I thought that you prefered large coffee cups and boiling foldgers to torture your victims?   ;D

Yah.  But that's for living victims.  This is before I begin the real torture!!!!  ;D  And ya think those sound bad?  You've never seen my coffee drip torture, have ya? LOL

I wondered why I had such a splitting headache.

Including banning any argument that they are not in fact contrary to scripture?

Hmm.  I wouldn't want children to read half of the threads currently going on in debate.

Fair enough.  So I guess no-one is going to be censured for testing the limits?

Nobody said that.

Being reasonable is the key to keeping the Debate Area. Testing the limits will simply get the Debate Area removed.

I think (hope?) you misundertand me.  What I meant is that, since the boundaries a bit vague at the moment, if someone oversteps where you think they are, they'll be told to reign it in, and hence the boundaries will become clearer.  Rather than "you've broken the forum rules - off you go".

I wasn't for a moment suggesting that people try it on.

Oklahoma Howdy to Ebia,

;D  You had me worried there for a time. I was wondering how many fingers of mine would be chopped off by ADMIN. Yes, I did misunderstand you.  ;D

Yes, what you said is correct. We are hoping that those who like to debate will set their own reasonable boundaries that everyone can live with.

I like the idea of a buffer zone, suggesting indirectly where boundaries may be nearing.

The zone I'm thinking of so far, in increasing significance:

"Principle's Office"   ;D

"Detention"   ;D

"Probation"   ;D   and

"Jail"

There could be variations--say  "Solitary", or "The Guillotine"(for when people actually get thrown off the site--with reason why.  I think this would be helpful to all.  And might lesson the "arbitrariness" implications?...??)

And for basket cases, "The Men in White", or "The Padded Cell"...    8)

Maybe if we treat people humorously, with "affection", we might be able to lasso a few of the more difficult ones?  They put up a big show that they're just here to troll or vandalize;  a humorous buffer zone might intercept them unexpectedly--and some of them are lonely individuals, searching?

When they see their name in Jail or worse, it might be for them a different way of looking at things.  If they persist, then show them the door(but again, posted, like under Guillotine, or "Lethal Injection"( ;D)--with reason why).

I think Jesus was always doing that--that is, an unexpected twist to things?

But, while this is a "good" idea, it would be much too much for a volunteer.  For it to succeed, it would have to be a paid position, I think, at least in some way.

It could be very effective, I think.

   ;D

Oklahoma Howdy to Symphony,

;D  I like the idea of humor to get someone's attention and possibly keep some of the trolls from destruction long enough to give them THE GOSPEL.

Brother, I'm perplexed about why you skipped some of the more popular forms of corporal punishment and went directly to lethal injection and beheading.   ;D

public flogging

the pillory

the rack

Oklahoma Howdy to Sincereheart & Shylynne,

The original idea was to reserve the majority of the forums for Christian fellowship and peace. SIGH - back to the drawing board.

Tom

Oklahoma Howdy to Sincereheart,

I'm an optimist, so I'll consider that to be a positive thing.   :D

I just hope and pray that most of the combatants eventually stop long enough to see what was actually accomplished. I think that all of us need to:

I apologize for my part in being one of the combatants.
I try not to make personal attacks, but sometimes my fingers get the best of me.

It is ok. To disagree is one thing. We need to talk out difference with open minds, to decipher truth from fiction, and to better understand our fellow man. But for To many of these Zealots, their emotions have got the better of them, and what was once honest desire is now vicious abuse, and I can not for the life of me figure out why Admin would allow this to continue.  >:(

Oklahoma Howdy to Justme & Tibby,

Justme,

Our war was going long before you got here. I actually believe that you and others who are thinking about this are part of the solution. We can choose to ignore war threads and they will die by themselves. We can and should all pray about how we treat each other, Christians and non-Christians. It is obviously more difficult to communicate with each other in Christian love, but that is what Jesus commanded us to do. We will all fail from time to time, and then it would be time to pray for some more for guidance and wisdom. Justme, I can assure you that I've failed many more times that you have. We can also pray for each other.

Tibby,

I don't think that we can write a rule for everything. The rules would be a 500 page manual if you left plenty of gaps.   :D  I think the easiest solution is for all of us to pray about what fuel we add or remove from potential fires. You may not be old enough to have heard the old saying, "It takes two to fight". Another analogy might be creating a bonfire when one person has the matches and another person has the logs. Once you have a fire, three to five more people adding logs to it can make a pretty big and hot fire. I'm positive that debate is possible without name calling, hate, humiliation, and a 40 foot bonfire.   :D   It is more difficult, of course.

Love In Christ,
Tom

But then he'd also need to make a rule about anti-Protestantism and anti-Baptism and then you'd be affected... ;D

The best way to keep a fire from starting is to catch the arson!  ;D I’m fine with debate, however, as I have said many time before, and even PMed Admin about it before, their should be a rule against questioning the salvation on the basis of denomination. That would allow for plenty of mature, educated debate, only effecting the hate-mongering trolls.  :(
