Title: Post was less than 60 seconds ago...
Post by: daniel1212av on June 21, 2010, 07:17:56 AM
This is a minor request, but If would be nice if trusted users could be exempt from the new requirement that one must wait 60 seconds btwn posts.   For those who post prepared material, as i do in Read-Post through the Bible, which often requires many posts due to the 10,000 character limit,  this does  slow things down more than the prior 30 second wait, and if  you go under the limit, you must back track to the post you were responding to.  And then wait another full minute before posting.

But  thank God for the ability to post His truth at all, and for hosting the words of this life, and may all take time for eternal life, and to share it.

And for the purpose of timing,  people might be interested in the old T-Clock utility which enables you to see seconds on your Windows clock, in case your OS does not provide that option: http://download.cnet.com/TClockEx/3000-2072_4-10637571.html

Hello Brother Daniel,

You are definitely a trusted user. I'll send you a private message with more details, but I'll tell you that we've been hit by a determined gang of hackers who posted a variety of filth and pornography in the last couple of days. Many security measures have been taken since it was apparent they wanted to take the forum down. I'll give you more information privately.

Love In Christ,
Tom

John 9:4 ASV  4  We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

Thanks. You are a watchman and soldier in the Lord's army, and are combating modern day Philistines. Be not weary in well doing, for your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

There's a bunch of us in the Lord's Army, and it's great company. We'll spend eternity together with Christ.

Love In Christ,
Tom

My own site (http://peacebyjesus.witnesstoday.org) has been down for two days, and you have to wonder.

BTW, a nice Firefox extension which works up until version 3.5.10 is Word Count. (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4718/)  You can select text in a page and then click on the W icon on the status bar (bottom right) and it tells you how many words it has, and if you put your cursor on the W a pop up tells you how many characters. I usually use Open Office to count characters for my Bible postings to make sure there are under the limit, but this comes in handy sometimes also. Praise God.

Hello Brother Daniel,

I'm sorry to hear about your site being down. I doubt that it has anything to do with your posting here because being on CU would actually add several fairly thick layers of security. Rather, I would think any attack would be simply because it's a Christian site. I had a Christian site for years and a Christian bulletin board many years before that, and they were attacked regularly - simply because they were Christian. I had good backups and had to use them many times. In fact, I still have good backups of my site that I might use one day to open another one.

Thanks for the information on Word Count for Firefox. I'm continually amazed about how many useful extensions there are for Firefox. I use Open Office for large projects and find Open Office to be outstanding. I use UltraEdit for my quick and small posts, and it has word count built in. UltraEdit is commercial, but I've evaluated a freeware text editor called RJ TextEd that's a close contender. Both of them have the ability for the user to use text snippets and BBCode fast and easy. Both of them also have word count and line count. I also use a general rule of thumb:  120 lines of 80 characters each = 9600 characters.

In the meantime - KEEP LOOKING UP!

Love In Christ,
Tom

Romans 3:19-28 ASV  19  Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it speaketh to them that are under the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God:  20  because by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified in his sight; for through the law cometh the knowledge of sin.  21  But now apart from the law a righteousness of God hath been manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;  22  even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ unto all them that believe; for there is no distinction;  23  for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God;  24  being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:  25  whom God set forth to be a propitiation, through faith, in his blood, to show his righteousness because of the passing over of the sins done aforetime, in the forbearance of God;  26  for the showing, I say, of his righteousness at this present season: that he might himself be just, and the justifier of him that hath faith in Jesus.  27  Where then is the glorying? It is excluded. By what manner of law? of works? Nay: but by a law of faith.  28  We reckon therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.

My site is back, thanks be to God.

I have tried Ultra Edit, but found it no better than the old Text shield http://members.multimania.nl/textshield/features.htm, but it is no longer supported), written by a Christian whom i still correspond with a bit. He also got it to work in Linux, but lost the tools he made it with as a teenager.  It has lots of features, including Auto-Paste, which OOo should have, but the feature is not working right in my XP (though it did in Vista). I asked Ultra Edit about AutoPaste and they said they planed to have  it in a future version. When making the events schedule for the outreach it comes in handy.  I also use Ditto, a clipboard that will continuously retain all that you copy to the clipboard, if you so choose, and  you can search for the words and paste them.

I guess this all should be in the software section.  Praise God for so great salvation, the greatest  gracious "freeware."
