Title: college
Post by: parkker007 on September 26, 2008, 01:34:09 PM
Hey everyone, I posted here a couple times a few years ago and found the people here very kind. Anyway I am in my first week of college, and have been more than slightly homesick. I am very close to my family, particularly to my parents, and being away from them has been hard. I was wondering if you guys could offer any advice, since I'm sure many of you went through some similar times. Thanks.

Hi parkker007,

It is difficult being away from loved ones for any reason and a person never gets used to it no matter how many times they must go through it. Yes, I've been there many times. It is always comforting to know that you do have loved ones waiting for you. It helps keeping in contact with them frequently in the best means that you are able. It also helps to keep yourself busy in your school work and if that isn't enough find a good church nearby and get busy with them. In the process I am sure that you will be able to make many good friends.

Thanks for the quick reply. I actually spent last night at a praise event called Gethsemane Prayer, with a group called Korean Campus Crusade for Christ. It was good to just be with fellow Christians and do what we were created to do, worship. The homesickness is getting a little better, but is there any other advice other people have? Thanks so much.

Hello parkker007,

You will determine how much solitude you have each day unless you are in an unusual place. So, I think that Pastor Roger's "get busy" advice is already the best advice. Having Christian fellowship and making Christian friends is the best advice for any Christian, regardless of where you go or how old you are. If you have times of solitude left, study your Bible and learn how to reach out to others who still need CHRIST in their lives.

Love In Christ,
Tom

can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any
man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood,
hay, stubble; 13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day
shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire
shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 14 If any man's work
abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If
any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself
shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

I will be praying for you.

I agree, get busy, keep busy. Reember you may be away from your loved ones but they can never be taken away from your heart.  Pray for them, remember the fun, the love, the good times and you might be suprised, they may be closer than you think.
