Title: Attachment Extractor for Thunderbird Email Program
Post by: nChrist on June 01, 2008, 10:04:20 AM
Brothers and Sisters,

First I am assuming that many people use the excellent Thunderbird Email Program. For those who don't know, it's the Email companion for Firefox and made by the same Open Source folks. I think that Thunderbird is every bit as good as any commercial email program, and Thunderbird is completely FREE.

Thunderbird also has the big advantage of being able to use a large number of excellent extensions - much like Firefox.

Pictures and other attachments are many times a pain in dealing with. The attachments can also be displayed inline or embedded in the actual email or be separate. Attachments come in so many ways from so many different programs that one size certainly doesn't fit all in extracting or saving them. I got some great baby pictures last night from my daughter, and I finally decided to look for what's available. Attachment Extractor is one of the most highly rated ones, so I decided to try it.

It took about 30 seconds to setup, and it worked perfectly the very first time. You simply check a few boxes, give the directory where you want to save various kinds of attachments and set it to either manually or automatically process incoming mail. I opted for manual because I always want to see what I'm saving to disk. Attachment Extractor is a tiny and elegant program that just plain works in a very simple way.

If you're tired of trying to figure out all the ways of dealing with various kinds of attachments, get this and give it a try. Look at the other FREE extensions and themes while you're there.

Hello Daniel1212AV,

The big boys who hold everyone hostage for huge profits are having a hard time these days. "Huge" would really be a bad word to describe their profits - "Obscene" would be better. It's ironic that much of the freeware actually works better and is more secure. I do think that the days of monopoly are nearing an end because we do have choices. The big boys don't like the idea of choices, but they are here to stay.

Brother, I do give thanks that average people, churches, and charities can operate without giving huge percentages of their limited funds to the MEGA-RICH software companies. We can make reasonable donations to the ones making great software and try to make sure they stay in operation. Most of them aren't very greedy, and it doesn't take much to keep them going.

As one who works in a faith tract ministry, freeware is a real blessing! I have even found two freeware authors who are Christians, one who wrote the best replacement for MS word pad and another whose text pro removes all the spaces, etc from emails so you can print them better.  http://members.lycos.nl/textshield/ (can be made to work under WINE), and http://www.ssesetup.com/textmorph.html  May God increase their tribe.

THANKS BROTHER DANIEL!

I've been using a text editor that is known as "Text Editor" or "GEdit" that is part of the Gnome Project for Linux. I do a lot with text, RTF, and HTML so I'll keep these in mind and may check them out. GEdit is a mult-function programmer's editor that's small, fast, and stable. I would do a review of GEdit here if there were more Linux users here.

I'm a member of several e-Sword user groups, so I've chatted with many Christians who do various things for the LORD in the area of programming or converting Christian materials into formats that e-Sword can use. Thankfully, there are a large number of Christians trying to provide programs and materials specifically for the LORD'S work around the world in just about all languages now. We are living in an increasingly difficult day and age, but GOD'S WORD and HIS GOOD NEWS is being distributed better than ever. This was also foretold in Bible Prophecy and IS being fulfilled as we speak.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Ephesians 1:18-23 NASB I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
