Affordable Christian alternative to public schooling introduced

Roy Faletti of Alpha Omega Publications (AOP) is helping make private education more affordable for families who cannot afford private school tuition, yet are concerned about recent developments in government-run schools.

These recent events, such as California's passage of affirmative action and the acceptance of homosexual clubs, have caused many concerned parents to seek alternatives to public education. However, the alternatives are not cheap. According to a 2004 article in The Christian Post, Christian schools have seen a drop in enrollment as parents find it harder to afford private education. With a potential recession looming in 2008, the problem could get worse as finances tighten.

Faletti, VP of educational services at Alpha Omega Publications, says his organization offers an economical solution called "School-in-a-Box." According to Faletti, the school can be set up in any church facility sans the huge overhead costs and teachers' salaries.

Through a program called Switched-on Schoolhouse, 3rd-grade through 12th-grade students can learn in one classroom. Available for the last ten years, the online program connects the teachers to the students.  Faletti says the "computer does 85 percent of the grading, and then the teachers do the remaining 15 percent," making it convenient for student and teacher alike.

Faletti says the cost per student generally runs under $2,000 per year and provides the students with an accredited, biblically sound education.

YEAH! - The cost is coming way down, and the cost would come much further down if the number of students dramatically increased. I realize that $2,000 is still a lot of money for most people, so there is still the homeschooling option to heavily consider. The biggest concern is that we must not give our children to the devil and let him have his way with them.

Well if the local gments would switch to voucher systems that would help greatly.

It is getting more affordable by the day. This program is much better than the sometimes $3,200 per semester that some private schools charge but there are other means to homeschool that are less expensive and yet make it easy for parents to manage. One local homeschooling parent here is doing so on a budget of less than $200.00 per school year, yet it is a very excellent, quality program.

Yes, vouchers would be a great help but for parents that are determined for their children to get quality education there is always a way.
