Title: Evil-ution thought Police...
Post by: bronzesnake on February 08, 2008, 10:12:08 AM
Hello my friends.
I thought some here would find it rather alarming article (below) extremely revealing.
It comes from the "real" scientists - the evolutionists of course  ::)
And once you read it, you will become painfully aware of the utter arrogance of these people who seem to believe with all their evolved hearts that "science" and "evolution" are synonymous!

Their staunch opposition to any public debate exposes the fact that evolution is indoctrination at it's worst.
Evolutionists are scared to death that if "they" allow intelligent thinking people to see both sides, their fairy tale world will crumble down at their ankles. They arrogantly believe they are intellectually superior to us mere humans, and have placed themselves in the position of being the world's thought police. They foolishly believe they have all the "right" answers, and the very thought of the general population being exposed to any other hypothesis or theories or TRUTH is unacceptable to them. Things such as freedom of speech and freedom of expression are privileges to them and not rights...
Anyway, read on and be prepared to be sickened.

John

A threat to geoscience education: creationist anti-evolution activity in Canada.
From: Geoscience Canada  |  Date: 9/1/2006  |  Author: Wiles, Jason R.

SUMMARY

The rejection of biological and geological evolution is a pervasive problem in science education. Recent events in the United States have brought anti-evolution activity to the forefront in media coverage of science education, but Canadians are often unaware that such creationist, anti-evolution activity is present in Canada as well. In this article, various foreign and Canadian-based anti-evolution efforts that threaten biology and geoscience education are discussed. These creationist organizations and their activities may adversely influence Canadian science curricula and public understanding of evolution and science in general.

SOMMAIRE

INTRODUCTION

In this article, the misconceptions found among Canadian scientific scholars as well as the general public that fundamentalist creationist activity or rejection of evolutionary theory stops at the US border, is addressed in some detail. Creationists and their supporters put pressure on schools and teachers in Canada. The Evolution Education Research Centre (EERC), often hears about these anti-evolution activities from teachers and concerned members of the community.

The EERC opened its doors at McGill University in 2001 with four McGill and four Harvard university professors, who have expertise in anthropology, biological evolution, educational psychology, geology, molecular biology, palaeontology, philosophy of science/ education, and science education. In addition, the Centre currently has a full-time manager, a small team of research assistants, and several prominent, international collaborators. The Centre receives modest financial support from the federal government and McGill University, as well as from private donations. Its mission is simple: to advance the teaching and learning of biological evolution through research. It is not an activist group. Its members often engage in outreach activities, and it does receive requests for assistance from students and teachers with regard to evolution education.

RECENT HISTORY

It seems that most Canadians dismiss the creationist opposition to evolution education in Kansas, as if we have moved beyond such issues in this country. However, most of them are unaware of just how little evolution is represented in Canadian curricula, and they are generally unaware of Canada's own controversies regarding evolution education. For example, few recall the embarrassment the Ontario Ministry of Education suffered in 2000, when headlines regarding their new curriculum read:

"Evolution nearly extinct in classroom: New science curriculum tries to avoid controversy" (Ottawa Citizen, Oct. 29, 2000)

"Ontario downplays evolution education" (Victoria Times-Colonist, Oct. 30, 2000)

"Ontario education is missing a link" (Sudbury Star, Nov. 1, 2000)

"There's a missing link in our schools" (Guelph Daily Mercury, Nov. 1, 2000)

"Evolution theory off-limits; Provincial curriculum shies from teaching topic to avoid controversy" (The Windsor Star, Oct. 30, 2000)

Stories similar to these ran in papers across Canada in late 2000, and perhaps one of the most interesting articles regarding the Ontario curriculum during that time was found in the Ottawa Citizen on November 9, 2000. Graham Hughes (2000) reported that, ironically, even though the bulk of resistance to evolution education is religiously motivated, one Ottawa clergyman was doing more than the framers of the Ontario curriculum to ensure that evolution was being taught. This article chronicled the efforts of Rev. Brian Kopke as he set up a weekend school at his church to teach the science he saw missing from the provincial curriculum. In the words of the Rev. Kopke, "I can't imagine kids going through the whole school system and coming out the other end without knowing anything about evolution." Hughes (2000) further states that, .. "there are so many kids out there who are going to be going into the sciences--and even the humanities--who need to have some idea of how all of this fits into a framework and how important science is to who we are".

In the United States, and in Canada, a dominant form of anti-evolutionism is "creation science". A form of what is usually called young-earth creationism, creation science holds that the earth, and the universe are about 6000 to 10,000 years old. It also accepts flood geology--the idea that Noah's flood was a historical worldwide event responsible for the fossil record and for major geological features like the Grand Canyon. Furthermore, taking the Genesis account literally, it insists that evolution is impossible except within a very limited range, for God created living things to reproduce "after their own kind". Most of the creationist organizations discussed in this article are creation science groups, but it is also important to realize that there is a diversity of opinion within these organizations. Furthermore, it is important to recognize that many Christians do not reject evolution; rather, they reconcile evolution and their religious beliefs.

Several foreign anti-evolution groups have organized Canadian branches. For example, Answers in Genesis (AiG), which was founded by Australian creationist Ken Ham, is one of the largest creation science organizations in America. This group is currently constructing a museum very close to Cincinnati, Ohio, that will span 50,000 sq ft, at a price of over US $25 million. The museum will house a vast collection of full scale model dinosaurs and will depict these dinosaurs as riving alongside modern humans. BAG has set up its Canadian headquarters in Waterloo, ON, from where it coordinates events across the country (Answers in Genesis website, accessed 2006).

AiG, under its new banner of, 'Creation Ministries International', has recently sponsored anti-evolution "field trips" and presentations aimed at refuting modern geology at sites such as the Niagara Escarpment, Canada's west coast, and at their "Creation Family Camp" on the Red Deer River in Alberta. Also, they are currently sponsoring Australian creation minister, Rev. Peter Sparrow, on his "Canadian Outback Tour". This project involves an extensive series of anti-evolution speaking engagements in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, and Saskatchewan (Creation Ministries International website, accessed 2006). Recently, other non-Canadian groups have been active within our borders, such as Kent Hovind's, Creation Science Evangelism (CSE website, accessed 2006), which is run from the site of Dinosaur Adventure Land, his anti-evolution theme park in Pensacola, Florida (Dinosaur Adventure Land website, accessed 2006). Hovind, an evangelist also known as "Dr. Dino", has made several appearances in Canada delivering his message of the purported impossibility of biological and geological evolution.

Although these foreign organizations are certainly interested in reaching a Canadian audience, it should not be assumed that the threat to science education posed by creationists originates only from beyond the Canadian border. There are numerous Canada-based creationist/anti-evolution organizations located nationwide (see Appendix A for a partial list). Aside from hosting websites, these organizations offer presentations in schools as well as invite students to attend presentations in other venues. Some of them host anti-evolution summer camps, publish very attractive anti-evolution magazines and books for children as well as for adults, sponsor creation science museums, coordinate anti-evolution conferences in communities across the country, broadcast on radio and television programs, write letters to editors of newspapers, etc.--all here in Canada!

TARGET AUDIENCES

The target audiences for some of these organizations are far clearer than others, but it would be wrong to assume that they all operate solely within churches. For example, Laurence Tisdall, the president of the Creation Science Association of Quebec (CSAQ), claims to have debated in favour of creationism, over a dozen times, in prominent academic institutions in Canada, such as McGill University, Universite Laval, and the Universite de Montreal--and further claims never to have been defeated in these debates. In fact, "Canada's Creation Speaker Pages" lists, "How to debate an evolutionist and NEVER lose", as one of Tisdall's stock presentations (Canada's Creation Information Portal 2006). His touted undefeated record is questionable, but the unfortunate outcome of these events is that creationists always come away with at least one type of victory--the ability to say that they have argued creation vs evolution at respected academic institutions. Creationists reporting on such debates might imply that these activities on university campuses indicate that the validity of evolution is still being "debated" by scientists at the highest academic level, and that it is a "theory in crisis". It is, of course, not. According to the Academy of Sciences of the Royal Society of Canada (1985), evolution is "the only explanation for the diversity of life on this planet that is acceptable to the scientific community". Many prominent defenders of evolution, including the (US) National Center for Science Education, have taken the position that we should not participate in such "debates" for this very reason (Scott 2005).

Even though Canadian Faculties of Science normally do not invite creationist evangelists to university campuses to speak about science, sometimes anti-evolutionists find other ways onto campuses. For example, several members of the biology and science education departments at McGill were recently surprised by flyers posted around campus, advertising a presentation on "Scientific Evidence for the Existence of God". Of course, religious and supernatural questions regarding the existence of the divine are clearly not within the scope of scientific inquiry, so we were immediately skeptical. The EERC was intrigued, both by the claims made in the advertisement and by the question of which academic unit had possibly invited the speaker, Kirk Durston.

Durston is an "Intelligent Design" proponent, who was instrumental in the formation of a Canadian organization known as the New Scholars Society (NSS), an organization with a stated purpose: "[T]o promote Christian scholarship in every field, with a special interest in those areas where philosophy, faith, and science intersect ..." (New Scholars Society website, accessed 2006). He also claims membership in The International Society for Complexity, Information, and Design (ISCID), which "investigates complex systems apart from external programmatic constraints like materialism, naturalism, or reductionism". This society is a project of Intelligent Design creationist William A. Dembski, and membership in ISCID is available to anyone for $45 per year or to any student for $25 (ISCID website, accessed 2006).

Durston was introduced at McGill as a scientist from the University of Guelph (he is a graduate student in biophysics), and he proceeded to give a two-part presentation. The first part was his advertised presentation on purported "Scientific Evidence" for the Existence of God, which he apparently gives regularly at Canadian universities, but the second part was a presentation on evidence for the divinity of Jesus Christ. Muslim students who had come to the presentation departed at this time. Perhaps they would not have attended at all had the advertisements revealed that the sponsor of the presentations was the Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC) (This group has since changed its name on the McGill campus to simple "Cru".) It does not appear to be an accident that the advertisements did not mention the sponsoring group. In fact, the New Scholars' website, including the sections rifled "Purpose" and "Who We Are" contains no mention of an affiliation with CCC. However, Canadian Christianity identifies NSS as a Campus Crusade for Christ ministry (Canadian Christianity website, accessed 2006).

CanadianChrisrianity.com is an interesting website. There, one can find leading anti-evolutionists, who are, perhaps, less careful with their ideas and speech than they might be in the secular media. Within this site's pages, one can find reports of Canada's public school science teachers openly supporting the idea of teaching creationism in their classrooms. All one needs to do is to search the site's archives for words like "evolution" or "intelligent design" and myriad articles will be located--most from right here in Canada. I recently found in these pages an interview with Durston, in which he essentially says that most evolutionary biologists work under profound ignorance regarding information theory, and this ignorance is the only thing that allows these unsophisticated researchers to conclude merely from bones and teeth that macroevolution ever occurred. The interview is from a series called "Evolution Under Fire" (Dawes 2003).

In the same interview, Durston speaks of his visits to a "grade 13 biology classroom" under the invitation of the teacher. This illustrates the sad fact that although teachers are on the front lines of most battles in the evolution wars, they may sometimes deviate from purely scientific discussion. A case in point is another Canadian creation-in-the-classroom debacle that the public has forgotten. In the 1990s, creationist opponents of evolution were invited to speak in senior science classrooms in the Abbotsford School District in British Columbia. That case eventually involved legal action by the BC Civil Liberties Association, an ultimate quashing of the practice by the Minister of Education, and an embarrassment for the Abbotsford School District board. Still, some sources report that as many as 30% of BC's science teachers remain sympathetic to creationism (Meijer 2005).

Another alarming trend that surfaced through current projects at the EERC is that, the teaching of evolution is more absent from Canada's schools than people may realize. Furthermore, resistance to evolution is also found among teachers-in-training at the university level. Anti-evolutionists have been encountered actively trying to appeal to these pre-service teachers. For example, during one of the activities for elementary-education majors, a timeline of Earth's natural history is constructed. As the timeline is laid down over nearly half a kilometre in downtown Montreal, the students are occasionally confronted by anti-evolutionists from the general public who tell the students that they are being lied to by their professors about the real nature of evolution, and beseech them not to continue the lies when they have classrooms of their own.

While anti-evolution activists attempting to derail educational activities for teachers-in-training may admittedly be a fairly rare occurrence, creationists are commonly very good at mobilizing and successfully lobbying the secular media to gain wider exposure. For example, in 2005, after the CBC aired a show on which I was interviewed about evolution and the EERC, the station was bombarded with calls from creationists complaining that CBC radio was being too one-sided. In response, one week later, the president of the CSAQ/AQSC was given a forum, where he delivered a message of anti-evolutionary creationism couched in scientific jargon which sounded quite reasonable to many nonscientists.

Sounding reasonable to laypersons is a talent that many of the leaders of the anti-evolutionists share. Some creationists disguise their ideas in putative scientific language, but others use legalistic or bureaucratic jargon as a cover. Such is the case with materials produced by another Canadian creationist group, the Citizens Concerned about Education and Origins (CCEO). These "Concerned Citizens" attempt to enlist parents in efforts to persuade educators and administrators to allow creationist curricula into science classrooms. To this end, they have drafted the "Parental Empowerment and the Instruction of Origins" letter, which they encourage parents to sign and have their children deliver to teachers. The letter falsely informs the teacher that evolution is unscientific and that teaching only evolution is a violation of the Ministry of Education's directives. The letter is filled with quotes from legal documents and has an authoritative tone which may be intimidating to some teachers. The letter demands "... that the instruction concerning the question of origins be done within the presuppositional approach in order to demonstrate the religious nature of the two models of origins" (CCEO website, accessed 2006). The "two models" are the creationist model and the evolutionary model of Earth history. Their claim is that the evolutionary model is based on nothing more than faith, and is therefore no less a religious belief than is creationism. This idea has been a mainstay of the anti-evolutionist movement, and it has been used with some success by other Canadian creationist groups.

However, unlike the CCEO, most anti-evolutionist organizations are generally very careful about what they will say regarding their anti-evolution agendas, but most of them do appear to have agendas when it comes to affecting evolution education in Canadian schools. Consider these quotes taken directly from the "prayer calendar" of the CSAQ (website accessed 2004-2006):

"Pray that public schools would be open to the creation message."

"Pray for our Ministers of Education in all provinces and territories across Canada that they would be open to the two model approach."

"Let's keep our schools in prayer and for the teachers to be open to seeing the importance of presenting the evidence for God's creation."

"Let's continue to pray for those creation organizations who promote the Creation message throughout North America within the school systems. May the school board leaders see the wisdom of including the Creation alternative in the textbooks."

"Pray for Expanding Youth Ministries (EYM) and its Director, Jim Gregor. As School Divisions get larger, permission to show Creation material needs approval from authorities in more centralized offices, and this may be harder to obtain."

"Jim Gregor and Ralph Underwood (EYM) met with the Saskatoon Ministerial Association to petition help in entry to the Schools and a Community wide showing of "Unlocking the Mystery of Lafe." Pray for open doors."

"Pray for the Saskatchewan director of Expanding Youth Ministries, Jim Gregor, as he takes videos and DVD's into the schools to show students the truth of Creation."

These prayer suggestions show that there is intent, as well as organized strategy, within this creationist community to have anti-evolution materials presented in Canadian public schools; furthermore, the progression of the content of these requests illustrates that their strategies might be working.

ROLE OF GEOSCIENTISTS

Geoscientists and Earth science educators are needed in the struggle against ignorance and misinformation about evolution and the history of the Earth. There are many ways in which the geoscience community can meet the potential threat of anti-evolution efforts in Canada, but they all begin with becoming more informed. Recent books that discuss the creation/evolution debate in schools include Evolution vs Creationism: An Introduction by Eugenie Scott, Executive Director of the National Center for Science Education (2004), and Defending Evolution in the Classroom: A Guide to the Creation/Evolution Controversy by Brian and Sandra Alters (2001). Brian Alters is a professor at McGill University, and Director of the Evolution Education Research Centre.

Beyond becoming more aware of the problems surrounding evolution education, there are numerous opportunities for action. These might include organizing symposia at scientific and educational conferences, taking an active role in appraising school curricula, visiting local classrooms, and supporting informal education institutions like museums, parks, and zoos. When engaging in public outreach, it often helps to have suggestions for reference materials. These materials will vary depending upon the target audience, but there are a few that I have found to be particularly useful.

"Who, if not geoscientists, will testify about the need for students to understand what the geosciences have revealed about the earth and the history of life on it?"
This question is as relevant in Canada as it is elsewhere.

AGI

Scientific evidence indicates beyond any doubt that life has existed on Earth for billions of years. This life has evolved through time producing vast numbers of species of plants and animals, most of which are extinct. Although scientists debate the mechanism that produced this change, the evidence for the change is undeniable. Therefore, in the teaching of science [the American Geological Institute] oppose(s) any position that ignores this scientific reality, or that gives equal time to interpretations based on religious beliefs only.

AGU

The American Geophysical Union affirms the central importance of scientific theories of Earth history and organic evolution in science education. An educated citizenry must understand these theories in order to comprehend the dynamic world in which we live and nature's complex balance that sustains us.... AGU opposes all efforts to require or promote teaching creationism or any other religious tenets as science. AGU supports the National Science Education Standards, which incorporate well-established scientific theories including the origin of the universe, the age of Earth, and the evolution of life.

GSA

The Geological Society of America recognizes that the evolution of life stands as one of the central concepts of modern science.... The immensity of geologic time and the evolutionary origin of species are concepts that pervade modern geology and biology. These concepts must therefore be central themes of science courses in public schools; creationist ideas have no place in these courses because they are based on religion rather than science. Without knowledge of deep time and the evolution of life, students will not understand where they and their world have come from, and they will lack valuable insight for making decisions about the future of their species and its environment.

This sort of thing is becoming more prolific in recent days. The fear is that the truth will be known and it is the truth that God created all things as He said He did. If this truth is known then they will have to accept the fact that they will have to answer to a powerful God.

This is just one more thing that reflects Bible prophecy.

I believe the atheists don't necessarily not believe in God, but it's more like they hate God.
Why be so belligerent and hateful towards something if it doesn't exists?
You don't see anyone going to these lengths for example, to refute leprechauns do ya.

I wonder why some of the text is scratched out in my last post?
Anyone know, because it wasn't like that in the original article?
Oh well, you can still read through it.

Take care Roger

John

I do believe that you are right.

Your post had a set of [ ] around the letter "s" so it recognized it as the strikeout command. I fixed it for you so it wouldn't show that way.

I like your style John!  I have copied and pasted the entire article in Word so that I can print it out to read tonight on the bus.  Should I expect nightmares tonight?

Thanks for the great articles Brother John.

The TRUTH of GOD'S CREATION just won't go away, mainly because it's the truth and the only logical method of a beginning.

The TRUTH Glorifies ALMIGHTY GOD, THE CREATOR.

The manufactured lies of the theory of evolution glorify scientists. What they don't realize is how silly the theory of evolution makes them look. The smoke and mirrors of the evolutionist's magic act is pitiful. Rabbit ears are sticking out of the hat before the trick begins. The worst thing is showing the audience the magician back-stage preparing for the act. They don't like that.    ;D

The ONLY TRUTH OF CREATION IS IN GENESIS! GOD GETS ALL OF THE GLORY!

Yes.  Prayer is powerful!

I have to say that as I read the article on the way home I had to smile.  It felt like I was reading the The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis!  Also I was encouraged by all the work that Christian organizations are doing in getting "our" message across! Quite the opposite of what the writer wanted, I'm sure!  Reading it all from that standpoint made it quite pleasurable.   ;D

In doing a little research of my own and in response to the Canadian article, if found this:

The creationist Robert Boyle (1627–1691) fathered modern chemistry and demolished the Aristotelian four-elements theory. He also funded lectures to defend Christianity and sponsored missionaries and Bible translation work.
Cell phones depend on electromagnetic radiation theory, which was pioneered by creationist James Clerk Maxwell (1831–1879)
Computing machines were invented by Charles Babbage (1791–1871), who was not a biblical creationist but was a creationist in the broad sense. He ‘believed that the study of the works of nature with scientific precision, was a necessary and indispensable preparation to the understanding and interpreting their testimony of the wisdom and goodness of their Divine Author.’

The creationist brothers Orville (1871–1948) and Wilbur Wright (1867–1912) invented the airplane after studying God’s design of birds.
The theory of planetary orbits was invented by Johannes Kepler (1571–1630), famous for claiming that his discoveries were ‘thinking God’s thoughts after him’. Kepler also calculated a creation date of 3992 bc, close to Ussher’s.
The theory of gravity and the laws of motion, essential for the moon landings, was discovered by the creationist Isaac Newton (1642/3–1727).
The moon landing program was headed by Wernher von Braun (1912–1977), who believed in a designer and opposed evolution. And a biblical creationist, James Irwin (1930–1991), walked on the moon.

Vaccination was discovered by Edward Jenner (1749–1823—note that Darwin published Origin in 1859)
Antisepsis by Joseph Lister, creationist.(1827–1912)
Anaesthesia by James Young Simpson (1811–1870), who believed that God was the first anaesthetist, citing Genesis 2:21.
Germ theory of disease by Louis Pasteur, creationist (1822–1895), who disproved spontaneous generation, still an evolutionary belief.
Antibiotics, developed without the slightest input of evolution, by the serendipitous discovery by Alexander Fleming (1881–1955), who had previously discovered lysozyme, the ‘body’s own antibiotic’. And Ernst Chain (1906–1979), who shared the 1945 Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine with Fleming (and Howard Florey (1898–1968)) for discovering penicillin, was a devout Orthodox Jew and anti-Darwinian. His biography noted ‘Chain’s dismissal of Darwin’s theory of evolution’, and his belief that ‘evolution was not really a part of science, since it was, for the most part, not amenable to experimentation—and he was, and is, by no means alone in this view’. As an understanding of the development of life, Chain said, ‘a very feeble attempt it is, based on such flimsy assumptions, mainly of morphological-anatomical nature that it can hardly be called a theory.’ And speaking of certain evolutionary examples, he exclaimed, ‘I would rather believe in fairies than in such wild speculation.’1

‘A very feeble attempt it is, based on such flimsy assumptions, mainly of morphological-anatomical nature that it can hardly be called a theory … I would rather believe in fairies than in such wild speculation.’—Ernst Chain, co-winner of 1945 Nobel Prize for discovery of penicillin, on Darwinian evolution

In modern times, we have the outspoken biblical creationist Raymond Damadian (1936–), inventor of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner, and Graeme Clark (1935–), the inventor of the Cochlear bionic ear who is a Christian.

Surgeon with a mission:
to make the evolution myth extinct
Philip Bell and Tim Matthews interview Vij Sodera

Dr Vij Sodera is the author of the book, One Small Speck to Man,1 the result of fourteen years of research. Impressed with this, Philip Bell wrote a teaching review article for the Journal of Creation.2 More recently, Philip and Tim met Dr Sodera at his home on England’s south coast where, together with his wife Margaret (a qualified nurse), he runs a private Minor Surgery clinic.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vij is holding a 12-week-old spider monkey fetus which was stillborn. Evolution theory states that this monkey is our distant cousin and that we have a common ancestry with sea-squirts. In contrast, in his book, Vij shows that the fossil and biological evidence confirms that humans have always been humans and that we are not modified apes.
Vij Sodera was fascinated by biology from a young age. Born in India, he has lived in Britain since the age of four and has always enjoyed painting and drawing animals—a few of these are illustrations in his recent book.3 He first encountered evolutionary teaching in school and again during his human anatomy studies at medical school, but it made little scientific sense to him. Only later did Vij begin to address the issues that had always interested him.

‘The more stones I overturned in the biological realm, the more complicated I saw things to be. An organism, when you look at it under the microscope, is so horrendously complicated. I found more and more evidence that living organisms could not have arisen by chance—there was design in everything I looked at.

‘If you look at bird anatomy in detail, you find that there are data which show categorically that dinosaurs could not have evolved into birds. Recently, a fossilized bipedal dinosaur (Scipionyx) was re-analyzed under different frequencies of ultraviolet light so that various internal organs stood out—the colon, the liver, the trachea and the rectum. Since a bird has air sacs in its abdomen and its pectoral area,4 the organs in those areas are pushed forwards rather than sitting against the spine. However, the form of Scipionyx was typically reptilian—it had no air sacs and its internal organs were positioned adjacent to the spine. A careful look at the unique bird lung shows that a step-wise change from reptilian to bird lung is impossible.5 And the idea that via modifications of a few frayed scales, a dinosaur could take to the air is total nonsense. That fits in with Genesis where God made animals of different and separate kinds. Dinosaurs, whether they were small and bipedal or like the huge Brachiosaurus, were totally different animals from birds and other reptiles.’

Our faith is built on a secure foundation of the Bible’s revelation, evidence and reasoning

Because he wanted to produce a book that dealt purely with the scientific evidence, Vij’s latest book does not contain overt references to the Bible. We asked him how he personally understood Genesis 1–11. ‘Where do we come from? The Bible says that God spoke everything into existence, and that makes perfect sense. Creation means there must be a Creator, and the Creator of the Bible wants to have a relationship with us and wants to be known to us. God says in His Word that He created the land animals and human beings on the sixth day. This is not blind faith because it fits in with what we observe scientifically. Our faith is built on a secure foundation of the Bible’s revelation, evidence and reasoning. Romans 1:20 says that you see the nature of God in His creation. It also says that ‘ever since the creation … His deity has been perceived’. Thus, human intellect had to be there right from the beginning.’

Here Dr Sodera is about to dissect a 30-year-old emu that died of natural causes. The lung anatomy of an emu is exactly the same as that of flying birds. The unique structure of the bird lung (which is completely different from amphibians, reptiles and mammals) shows that birds could not have evolved from dinosaurs.
Coming from a Hindu background, Vij’s early exposure to Christianity was through attending a church school. Much later, he attended church with his wife and started asking new questions. He says God spoke to Him through Luke chapter 3 one night: ‘Luke actually starts by defining the time-frame for when these events [surrounding Jesus’ life] were taking place. He categorically defines prominent people alive at that time (Tiberius, Pilate, etc.). Luke wasn’t describing fictional events but historical reality.’ Vij was particularly struck by the fact that Jesus was baptized in obedience to God’s plan: ‘Jesus Himself, God as Man, didn’t ask the question, “Why be baptized?” God the Father—the Creator—makes the rules and when you follow the rules, everything else in the whole universe falls into place. He says, if you trust in Jesus and repent of your sins, you will have eternal life.’

But what would Vij say to those who might retort that this is about faith, not science? ‘I would say that it is both logical and scientific to posit the hypothesis that God created the universe. In order to nullify that hypothesis, a scientist would then have to provide data or work out a thought experiment in order to criticize that thesis and pull it down. If, as we can show, we could not have evolved, then the scientist has to look to another cause to answer, “Well, where do we come from?”

‘There is no logical or scientific explanation other than a Cause which is outside the universe as we know it.6 Therefore it’s entirely logical and scientific to say that God created us. Then you have to define who God is, and the only valid candidate for the Creator is found in the Bible.’

Vij’s book, ‘One Small Speck to Man’, is subtitled ‘the evolution myth’ implying that evolution is a ‘just-so’ story and that evolutionists believe something that they cannot prove—and more importantly, something that is not supported by the evidence. To Vij, this is a crucial point:

Dr Sodera with his wife Margaret and their two daughters, Melanie and Lisa.
‘I wanted to produce a book that was full of scientific, logical arguments coupled with plenty of images to challenge the reader. True scientists should look at all the evidence—even the evidence they don’t like—and accept what it points to. Of course, if people choose to willfully reject God, then it doesn’t matter how much they know—there will be a fatal void in their thinking.

‘If you look at Cytochrome C for instance, an enzyme vital to all life forms, it has 38 amino acids in its sequence which are invariant, so those 38 amino acids must be essential for its function. Therefore, Cytochrome C cannot have arisen step-by-step.’7

We wondered how, as a Christian surgeon, he reacted to the common anti-Creator challenge: If the body is so marvellously designed, why are there many mistakes and things that go wrong?8

‘God made everything perfect in the first place, but as a result of the Fall, disease processes have developed in our bodies and in animal bodies. As a result of the disobedience of man, the whole universe was subject to a curse and decay, resulting in mutations and molecular derangements of all living things, as we see in a lot of human diseases.’

Yet Vij is vexed by the atheist professors who deny obvious design. He commented on Steve Jones, who recently went into a diatribe on BBC Radio (UK) about the allegedly inefficient design of the human eye, saying that its designer would be a ‘pretty rotten’ one9 and mentioned Richard Dawkins who has claimed that it would ‘take only about 10 minutes to exhaust the case for ID.’10 Vij said: ‘Regarding men who reject God, Romans 1:22 declares: “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.” The debate on origins is not about evolution versus religion but about good science versus bad science.’11

We found the discussion both stimulating and encouraging. Here was a man who recognized that ‘the whole of science starts—and finishes—with a bias’ and was passionate about bringing all the evidence of science and medicine to light, weighing it sensibly and honestly. He had concluded from science, as well as Scripture, that human beings are unique among all life forms on the Earth. We found Dr Sodera to be a man who passionately tackles both his surgery and his science—along with all his other interests—with heart and mind in gear. Likewise with his Christian faith: ‘The Bible says in Isaiah 1:18, “Come now, let us reason together.” The God of the Bible doesn’t want us to be ignorant or dim-witted. God wants us to know Him from a position of knowledge, intelligence and wisdom. Human opinions are meaningless unless there is some absolute upon which to gauge the truth of the matter. God, in Ecclesiastes 12:13, says, “Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” Man’s position is to have a relationship with the God who is our loving Father, and to do things as He—our Creator—has designed them to be done.’

There are more and more scientists coming to this knowledge every day. Yes, it is encouraging.

Founder of Creation Museum calls evolution theory racist

The founder of the new Creation Museum in Kentucky says in a new book that Darwin's theory of evolution has fueled racism and genocide.

Ken Ham and co-author Charles Ware, president of Crossroads Bible College in Indianapolis, have written "Darwin's Plantation: Evolution's Racist Roots."

They argue that Darwin's theory puts some races "higher on the evolutionary scale" and others "closer to the apes," fanning the flames of ethnic superiority. Ham writes that "although racism did not begin with Darwinism, Darwin did more than any person to popularize it."

That view is disputed by David Schultz, a biology professor at Nicholls State University in Louisiana, who says Darwin spoke out against slavery and "was not a racist."

The very powerful European political agency, the Council of Europe, is fighting to keep Creationism from being taught in Public Schools

The forty-seven nation Council of Europe, a very powerful European political agency, has condemned all attempts to bring Creationism into Europe's school system saying that the Bible based theories and religious dogma threaten to undercut sound educational practices.

This pronouncement comes from the Council of Europe as creationists are involved in an ambitious effort to bring Creation to Britain and the rest of Europe. An effort led by Ken Ham, the founder of Answers in Genesis, who says that the true history of the earth is told in the Bible, not Darwin's, The Origins of the Species.

The condemnation of the teaching of Creationism in public schools, by the very politically powerful Council of Europe, is a precursor to the fulfillment of Bible prophecy.

In an ambitious effort to bring Creationism to all of Europe, led by Ken Ham, founders of Answers in Genesis, and other Bible believing Europeans has been met with the defenders of Darwin and his theory of evolution fighting back.

The Council of Europe, in a report that called the introduction of Creationism into the public classroom as very dangerous, said that these views can subvert children. On the other side of the coin, Creationists in Europe say evolution is a lie and it is being taught in schools as fact leading children in the wrong direction.

This debate between evolutionist and creationist has been going on for over 150 years and will continue until the Creator, Jesus Christ, comes back to earth to settle the debate. By the way, it is because of this debate and those who deny the Biblical account of Creation, that we can know we are quickly approaching the return of Jesus Christ.

The Apostle Peter wrote in II Peter 3 that in the days leading up to the return of Jesus Christ there would be people willfully ignorant, or dumb on purpose who would deny the Second Coming of the Lord as they also deny that the Lord created the heavens, the earth and all that in them is, II Peter 3:3-5.

The Council of Europe's condemnation of Creation being taught in the classroom is indeed a precursor for Bible prophecy to be fulfilled.

Hello GrammyLuv,

THANKS! - That was a great article that I enjoyed.

I doubt that Christians will be here long enough to see the theory of evolution thrown in the trash, but we are getting to see many evolutionists begin to squirm when the TRUTH is revealed.

I don't view my faith in GOD'S Account of HIS CREATION as being blind. I consider it to be informed and quite logical. The lost also consider our faith in JESUS CHRIST to be blind, but I disagree strongly. There is a ton of evidence to consider, and faith in JESUS CHRIST is quite logical. Just one example of LOGIC and EVIDENCE is the HOLY BIBLE. The HOLY BIBLE proves itself countless times and is verified in recorded history. Much of that recorded history was written by non-Christians, so JESUS CHRIST was not and is not a contrived theory. Further, those of us who belong to JESUS CHRIST possess hard evidence of the facts in our hearts.

GOD and the devil are just as REAL as good and evil. The HOLY BIBLE is the ULTIMATE TRUTH from the CREATOR HIMSELF! Scientists can't explain Creation, simply because they aren't GOD. Only the CREATOR - ALMIGHTY GOD - can describe and define HIS Work. The CREATOR told us what HE wants us to know about CREATION in HIS WORD, the HOLY BIBLE. GOD'S WORD is the ultimate measuring device for truth and fiction. It's extremely simple: truth agrees with the HOLY BIBLE and fiction disagrees with the HOLY BIBLE. Being able to discern TRUTH from FICTION is one of the reasons why GOD gave us HIS WORD. It really is just this SIMPLE!

Love In Christ,
Tom

Ephesians 1:18-23 NASB I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Muzzled! Facts that contradict evolution face ban
Parents suggest such 'Flat Earth Society' thinking short-sighted

The state of Florida is considering a new science teaching standard that presumes the accuracy of the theory of evolution, much to the consternation of parents and other leaders who say society too often already has been embarrassed by such "Flat Earth Society" thinking.

At issue is a set of standards that will be considered by the state Board of Education that will mandate the teaching of evolution as fact and, essentially, forbid the discussion of facts that may contradict that theory.

"The proposed standards [for evolution] … presume ideas to be facts and leave no opportunity to study them beyond their narrow presentation," Fred Cutting, a retired aerospace engineer, said. He served on the state's Science Standards Framers Committee because of his expertise in biology, specifically species origins and the human genome project, and found the treatment of evolution "very one-sided, bias[ed] and narrow in its final views."

The standards, he said, "are dogmatic and not scientifically neutral. … In the biology standards for evolution that were proposed, there was no room for any critical thinking or criticism of prevailing science theories. Students are not encouraged to do any critical thinking or evaluations within the proposed standards being questioned. The life sciences subcommittee refused to distinguish between what can be observed, tested and objectively verified, on one hand, and what is speculation and/or mere hypothesis on the other."

He said he was trying to promote a curriculum that was even and "would present both the strengths and weaknesses of evolution."

"Those attempts were met with hostility and aggressive opposition," he said. Some other committee members were "very intolerant, aggressive and dogmatic about protecting what appears to be a closely held personal philosophical commitment over what is the best science available to Florida's students."

Pastor Neal Ganzel Jr., of Ormond Beach, Fla., wasn't so restrained in his criticism of the emphasis the new standards place on evolutionary theory.

He called Darwinian science the "reigning" theory of the day but said the committee members "arrogantly assume that this one theory is the final and only model for the explanation of the existence and variety of species…"

"People have made this kind of mistake before," he said. "May I remind us all that Alchemy was once the ruling theory of science? Newton and Galileo gave us one authoritative understanding of time, then came Einstein and relativity. The human family has been embarrassed many times by versions of the Flat Earth Society," he said.

"What we have here, in effect, [is] the same kind of situation that faced Galileo the scientist in 1633, and John Scopes the high school teacher in 1925. The educational standards and politics of their day plunged them into terrible crises of conscience, professional harassment, public humiliation, termination of employment, and even trial for religious heresy. This is what inevitably happens when a particular scientific theory or religious doctrine utilizes the coercive powers of government as a means of advancing its influence," he said.

John Stemberger, chief of the Florida Family Policy Council, told WND the "Neaderthals" are fighting hard to prevent the introduction of information into public schools that would contradict their belief in evolution.

"It's apparent that evolution has become almost like one of the prongs of the Apostles' Creed for the secular humanists. They guard it as if they were guarding a doctrinal truth," he said. "They're not open to discussion and debate and examination of evidence."

The statement triggering the protests would be mandated for all schools, teachers and students in Florida if the state board adopts the standards in a vote scheduled Feb. 19. It says, "Evolution is the fundamental concept underlying all of biology and is supported by multiple forms of scientific evidence."

That, Stemberger said, leaves those open to scientific debate "in the position that Galileo was in, when he was trying to establish an order of the day and come against the Flat Earth Society."

Stemberger and others have assembled a campaign to try to influence the state board to reject the recommended standards, or modify them.

"Members of the coalition stressed that they are not opposing the inclusion of evolution in the science curriculum, but are opposing an orchestrated attempt to censor relevant scientific evidence regarding evolution from Florida's school children," the group's announcement said.

"If science is anything, it must be a search for the reality of the physical world we live in," Stemberger said. "We think kids should learn about evolution, but they should learn it is a theory with evidences of both its strengths and weaknesses."

The committee said although comments from the public have been allowed at several public hearings, "that input was largely ignored by the committee and all communication now to the seven voting members of the State Board of Education regarding this issue is being filtered and redirected."

WND asked for a comment from the communications office of the state board, but when a woman called back she said she was not a spokeswoman.

But those who advocate for allowing students to ask questions about evolution, and challenge the assumptions on which it is based, posted a list on their website of hundreds of internationally recognized experts and professionals in their various scientific fields who agree with the statement: "We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinian theory should be encouraged."

"These revisions," added Ganzel, "will also blind the Florida student to any other interpretive viewpoint than the Darwinian Theory. Our standards should make sure the student knows and loves the scientific process, and is encouraged to pursue, in an unfettered way, science as an exciting, changing profession. Students should not be predisposed to only one scientific theory."

Parent Kim Kendall, formerly an air traffic controller and now a homemaker, said her frustration from having such standards considered was surpassed only by the fact state officials apparently do not want even to hear concerns.

"I have devoted weeks and weeks to just trying to be heard but I have been met with nothing but frustration and disappointment. There have been public hearings that were abruptly canceled; there were no press releases issued for the hearings that were scheduled – or for the canceled hearings, the computerized survey for public comment was too complicated… The multiple attempts by all of us to meet personally with members of the Board of Education have been totally unanswered," she said.

"It is simply remarkable that the very people who are making this decision are refusing to hear directly from the people whose children's lives and educations are being affected by these standards."

The Jacksonville Times-Union reported that school boards in the northeastern part of the state are objecting collectively, endorsing resolutions that urge the state to back down from the new standards promoting "evolution," not the "theory" of evolution.

Nassau Supt. John Ruis said the theory of evolution has many holes, and having the state present it as an undisputed fact "is certainly contrary to the beliefs of many people, including myself."

How to present such information should be left to local districts, said Clay Supt. David Owens. "I believe in the separation of church and state, but I also believe there is important information available on both sides of [evolution]. To present it in just one way is wrong."

The Orlando Sentinel reported that more than 10,000 people have logged onto the state website to denounce, or praise, the science blueprint.

The newspaper's own forum on the issue had collected nearly 1,000 comments, ranging from Woody Smith's endorsement of evolution: "Evolution by natural selection is an established PRINCIPLE of science – the fact that it is still called a 'theory' seems to imply to some ignorant people that it is somehow in doubt. … It is supported by the fossil record. It has been observed in the laboratory. It has been observed in nature. It has been supported by advances in genetic science. NO evidence whatsoever has ever been discovered to contradict it."

But Bob W. followed with a different perspective.

"Evolution has never qualified as anything more than a theory. The theory caters to secular thought and the presupposition that man is the highest order of all beings. But the problem is that none of what the theory promotes has ever been observed, much less proved. No transitional forms, no new species and no new anything. … Evolution is such a mass of mumbo (sixty billon years ago) jumbo (the mountain turned upside down), that most folks taught this stuff still have no idea of what it is. They have to replay their Jurassic Park DVD to refresh their memory. Think of the markets that feed off this nonsense and folk's pocketbooks. Well, gotta go. Two Yugos just wrecked outside my window and I want to see the new Caddies that resulted – that's evolution."

DARWINIAN SISTINE CHAPEL COMING to the London Natural History Museum declares
spokesperson on UK Radio 4, 11 February 2008. The project plans to paint a
museum ceiling with art inspired by Charles Darwin. Even though they have
publically stated The NHM was designed by Sir Richard Owen, an opponent of
Darwin, to show the glory of creation, the NHM is taking the position that it
was time to put things right and a ceiling dedicated to Darwin was one way of
doing it. Sir Richard Owen stated about Darwin: 'But, as we have before been led
to remark, most of Mr Darwin's statements elude, by their vagueness and
incompleteness, the test of Natural History facts.'

ED.COM. Ever want to see a prophecy fulfilled as you watch? Then remember almost
2000 yrs ago the Apostle Peter wrote that in the last days men would wilfully
deny creation, the flood etc (2 Peter 3:4 ff). The NHM is entering such a public
stage of wilful truth denial. Sadly their project should not be compared to
Michael Angelo's CREATIONIST SISTINE CHAPEL, but rather labelled a DARWINIAN
CISTERN CHAPEL where people will worship the creature rather than the Creator.

Tom, you make some excellent points - there is loads of corroborating evidence for the scriptures as a whole, and overwealming corroboration both scientific, archaeological and historical.
The reality is it's actually evolution science which depends on blind faith.

;D   ;D  Hello Brother John, I started laughing at number one, and I think this one says it all. Not one shred of evidence exists that this is possible, and this is with armies of scientists and modern, high-tech laboratories. This is really the foundation for the theory of evolution, and it isn't possible. The best so-called evidence in the form of fossils involves a lengthy list of frauds and outright lies. Further, the scientific community already knows about these frauds and lies. It just isn't healthy for one's career to admit. Those who have come out of the closet with the truth have been shunned, and great effort has been expended to ruin their professional careers. So, it takes a very brave scientist to tell the truth. Telling the truth about Al Gore's myth of global warming would be tiny in scope compared to telling the truth about the biggest scientific FRAUD in history. There is a common thread in many like frauds:  the Rightful GLORY of GOD is removed and given to man! The devil can't stand seeing GOD get the GLORY for anything.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Something is wrong with our recent history of Antarctica. Evolutinist wisdom insists that the continent has been ice-covered for over 15 million years. But now there has been found pollen and the remains of roots and stems of plants in an area stretching some 1300 kilometers along the Transantarctic Mountains. The Antarctic wood is so recent that it floats and burns with ease.

It is postulated that a shrub-like forest grew in Antarctica as recently as 4,000 years ago. These deposits of fresh-looking wood do suggest that trees recently grew only 400 miles from the South Pole or even closer. Also of interest is the fact that the sedimentary layers containing the wood have been displaced as much as 3000 meters by faults, indicating recent large-scale geological changes.

Florida decides 'evolution as theory' better way to go

In the wake of public outcry, the Florida State Board of Education has voted by a margin of 4-to-3 to teach evolution as theory rather than fact.

The Florida State Board of Education met Tuesday to discuss and vote on new educational standards for the Sunshine State. Part of the new standards included teaching evolution as the basic concept of biology -- essentially labeling evolution as fact rather than theory (see earlier article). But the new science standard drew a substantial public outcry. Angry parents flooded the Board of Education with emails, and some even threatened to pull their children from public school.

Florida State Representative Marti Coley was one of the critics of the new science standard who spoke at Tuesday's debate. "The opposing side keeps saying that we're trying to bring religion [into public school], and we're not," says Coley. "We're simply asking them to acknowledge that this is a theory."

Due to the public outcry and Tuesday's debate, the Florida State Board of Education decided to change the language of the new science standard and label evolution as science theory, and require that it be taught as such. The standards then passed by a margin of 4-to-3.
