Title: College
Post by: parkker007 on October 17, 2007, 10:53:25 PM
Well I haven't been on these forums in over two years; a lot has happened since then! I'm getting ready to go off to college next fall, and a lot of things are happening... but one thing I"m thinking about is: what to do before going off? Maybe I can get some advice from people who've gone through this already. I know college is full of temptations and can at times be lonely and downright depressing... any specific advice for when things start getting tough? Also, any tips on finding a good church that will provide a place to grow and not be misled. I hear too many stories about Christians who fall away during the "four best years of your life." I DON'T want to end up like them...

The temptations one faces in College are no different than at any other time or place in ones life. We must remember that even though we may be in a different setting we are still in the eyes of God and it is He that we must please not those people that are around us. Stay in the word and stay strong in Him. As for a church to attend perhaps your current pastor would have a recommendation as to which church would be appropriate in the area that you are headed for.

If you really need a vacation, finding an alternative vacation spot rather than the typical Spring Break locales may be more appealing for Christians. Not every Christian is seeking the MTV experience, so you may want to find an affordable vacation elsewhere.

There are many organizations that plan mission trips during Spring Break. Not only are Christians avoiding the temptations of Spring Break, but they are also spreading the gospel around the world.

If you are not sure you want to leave town for Spring Break, consider doing some outreach or volunteer work at home. See what your local youth group has planned. Try offering your assistance to someone in need.

During the semester find a group that are believers, and study with them. Grow in the Word, and you will find you don't have time for some of the problems the others will have.

Most important, read you Bible!!

This goes with all the points above.................

2 Timothy 4:2 Herald and preach the Word! Keep your sense of urgency [stand by, be at hand and ready], whether the opportunity seems to be favorable or unfavorable. [Whether it is convenient or inconvenient, whether it is welcome or unwelcome, you as preacher of the Word are to show people in what way their lives are wrong.] And convince them, rebuking and correcting, warning and urging and encouraging them, being unflagging and inexhaustible in patience and teaching.

Remember you can post to us, while you are in college and need prayers, or support from your brothers and sisters here.

Resting in the hands, of the Lord.
