Post by: Shammu on August 14, 2007, 11:26:40 PM
Okay for you NASCAR fans, of Dale Earnhardt. :D :D

"Dale" to make its TV debut on CMT September 4th:

Dale Earnhardt is known as one of the most legendary drivers in the history of NASCAR, and his life both on and off the track is featured in the two-hour CMT feature, DALE, premiering Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 8:00pm/et/pt on CMT.

DALE will encore at 8:00pm on Wednesday, Sept. 5 and Thursday, Sept. 6, with those being the only additional scheduled airings of DALE on CMT prior to the film’s release on DVD next year. Produced by NASCAR Images and CMT Films, DALE is the only authorized film on Dale Earnhardt. Narrated by Paul Newman, this portrait of Dale Earnhardt includes archival race footage, rare outtakes, never-before-seen family home videos and interviews with his closest friends and family, toughest competitors and most avid fans, illustrating the depth of Earnhardt's influence in the racing world and beyond.

DALE was produced with the support and endorsement of Richard Childress Racing, plus the Earnhardt family, corporation, and team. Prior to airing on CMT, DALE was launched theatrically in February 2007 and premiered in select cities on the Nextel Cup Series circuit.

A little shower doesn't hurt although I would rather it be in water than slime.

1) I first was like.... who would want to go see a movie about a person named Dale?  (not thinking of any big historical names in history called Dale...got to wondering if there was a Dale Ceasar who came in after Julius or something).

Then I read what the movie was about.  And my thoughts were .... see 1 above

;D  Let me see if I remember correctly. I know that some of the younger people won't understand this at all. Are we talking about the old cartoon, "Chip and Dale"?

I do like to watch a good race from time to time. In terms of actually going to one, I've only been to some local races a long time ago. My son has gone to some of the big NASCAR races and says that it's 100 times better than watching on television. I did enjoy watching Dale Earnhardt race.

Yep, Chip n Dale the cartoon. Sometimes racing is just as funny.

I would rather be racing than just watching. I did race a couple of seasons in a hobo class. It was pretty fun and funny.

I was just remembering my son being a big fan of Dale Earnhardt. He had several things collected that were common for big fans, and we got him a set of collector cars for his birthday just about a year before Dale Earnhardt died. I can't remember the scale, but they were highly detailed and maybe 6" to 8" long. They were a pair and supposed to be replicas of what Dale had driven that year. Needless to say, their worth skyrocketed. It turns out that collectors have a pretty serious hobby. Even the boxes that the cars come in have to be in almost perfect shape for the highest value. This pair of cars have only been out of the box once, and they don't even have a fingerprint on them, so they are worth about 30 times what I paid for them or more. As far as I know, my son refuses to sell them, and I have no idea if their value will continue to rise.

Those are anywhere from 1/32 to 1/24 scale.  I have a set of Dale's cars in 1/24 scale, from 1980 - 2001.

My cars are also in the box, on a shelf, where you can see them.  I also have quite a few others from NASCAR.

Then if you want to talk about Hot Wheels, I have them going back to 1967, when my dad worked for Mattel.  I also have a few that were never released for the general public.  Like your son, I will not be selling mine.  After I'm gone, I don't care what happens to them. As they are material things not worth worrying about.

Brother Bob,

I know exactly what you mean in talking about material things. I think that my son collecting cars is just something fun for him to do. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he gave some of them to the grandsons. I think that he really wants to take them to a race pretty soon. Both of the older boys like playing with cars, and the 6 year-old is really ready for a simple model to put together.
