Title: Secret Agent with Patrick McGoohan
Post by: Debp on July 15, 2007, 11:42:20 PM
Was anyone else a fan of Patrick McGoohan in the old "Secret Agent" tv series?  I used to watch it faithfully and loved it.  I recently looked up a website about Patrick McGoohan.  It said he was the first actor offered the role of James Bond but he refused it, as it was not the type of character he wished to portray.  (Wouldn't it be great if more actors/actresses would be like this today?)

After the James Bond movies became popular, Patrick McGoohan was offered the role on "Secret Agent".  He insisted the bedroom scene be removed from the first episode.  Also, he said if they wanted him to play the role, there would be no romantic entanglements in any of the scripts!

Secret Agent was a good series. It is too bad that many actors are willing to sacrifice morals for a career and popularity. I thought that Patrick McGoohan was a good actor in all the roles that he played in.

Yes, I agree.

I remember McGoohan was even in a Colombo murder mystery.  He played the bad guy but it was interesting to see him and Colombo match wits!

I think that he was in two or three different Colombo episodes.

Yes, there was The Saint with Roger Moore, I think.  I don't remember that one as well.  David McCallum and Robert Vaughn were both in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.....another one of my favorite spy shows as a kid.

Happy, happy birthday to you!  (I just sang this for you.   :) )

I also have trouble with my memory at times.....mostly, it's my short term memory that's the problem.  I think it's from the age of overload that we live in today.....just too much stuff these days.  So you are not alone!

Thank you...I had a wonderful day...everyday is...The Lord gives us each day since we are not promised tomorrow...I finally remembered the show I was thinking of...The Avengers...there was a remake but I loved the original...with Diana Rigg..

I used to watch the Avengers all the time also. I had forgotten about that show. It was good. Unfortunately there are few shows today of the quality that there used to be on TV. My favorites as a child were westerns and crime mysteries.

The old Elliot Ness series..The Untouchables..we could not watch when I was young...My father hated that his family and relatives were mentioned many times in this show and later on...when the Godfather came out...I understood why because my great uncle was the one killed at a fruit stand and it was dipicted in the movie...during that time..I thought movies were becoming so bold as to put so much violence in them..now...cartoons are filled with violence that children watch day after day and our society wonders why the prisons are filled with kids..

My parents were very careful as to what we watched as young children. They wouldn't allow us to watch the violent ones either and I'm talking of the violence that was allowed in some movies in the 1950's.

The cartoons of today are atrocious and it is way far more than just the violence that is depicted in them. There are many atrocities being taught to the children that would have never been allowed before and it is putting these children in jeopardy.

Oh, yes....I watched that one faithfully, too.  I think Diana Rigg was eventually replaced but Diana Rigg was my favorite.  I don't remember the actress that replaced her.  The man was good in his role, too.

I admit I did watch them!  :)  But I really loved Dobie Gillis....I thought Maynard G. Krebbs was so funny (the original hippie).

YES, the Three Stooges were first class investigators, but they might have been a little bit too refined for police work.   ;D

After all, they were prim, proper, and definitely social elites.   ;D

NIAGARA FALLS!

;)   Someone had to say it.

I was just thinking back and laughing about some real comedy that was always clean.

Jack Benny, Little Rascals, Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, Three Stooges, I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, etc. I even remember many silent artists who were hilarious. They were able to make it funny without any sound at all, so it makes you wonder why they think that comedy needs to be dirty and have foul language today.

Thats because it was good clean comedy (fun).  If that was remade, there would be cussing, and foul language. :'(  Cause thats about the only thing, most people understand today. :'(

I love to laugh but won't watch the "off color" comedians.  I guess they are speaking what's in their own hearts.  One time I saw a Middle Eastern (Muslim) comedian on a late night show.  He was really, really funny and he kept all of the material clean.  One joke he did was about stereotyping....that now a car maker was using Asians (usually known to be bad drivers, at least in L.A.!) to say their car is safe....but he said you wouldn't see United Airlines using a Middle Eastern pilot saying "Fly the Friendly Skies!".  (He used a Middle Eastern accent while saying this and it was so funny.)

Most of the comedy shows today are pretty dumb so I don't watch those either.  (I'm watching the game shows, talent shows, etc).

I usually watch American Inventor.  Also, I love The Next Best Thing and America's Got Talent.  If any of you are interested in some entertaining shows, try the last two especially.  Maryjane, I know you are watching, too, from our posts under "The Next Best Thing".
